The Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Amina Mohammed, has claimed a woman will likely succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.

The former Minister of Environment stated this on Saturday, while speaking at the Mo Ibrahim governance weekend in Abidjan.

In a conversation with Mo Ibrahim, Amina Mohammed was asked when Nigeria will have a female president, she replied saying: “2023, Insha Allah”.

Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje has described the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as bad loser in elections.

The Supreme Court on Monday in Abuja struck out an appeal filed by Senator’s Magnus Abe, challenging the primary election conducted by the All Progressives Congress in Rivers state.

Abe had prayed the court to make a pronouncement on the direct and indirect primary elections conducted by the APC for the nomination of its candidates for the 2019 general elections.

The apex court struck out the appeal on the grounds that the notice of appeal filed by the Senator was defective and not in compliance with the order of the court.

The outgoing executive governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, has asked the nine elected members of the House of Representatives from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, to support Femi Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos) for speaker.

Ajimobi, who stated this on Sunday in a meeting with the lawmakers-elect in Ibadan, advised them to follow the decision of the APC leadership in determining the presiding officers of the incoming 9th Assembly.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleged yesterday that some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were plotting to push Rivers State into a constitutional crisis.According to the opposition party, the plot was to force an annulment of the March 9, 2019 governorship, National Assembly and state Assembly elections.

The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) has departed Nigeria following the conclusion of the 2019 general election.

In a statement in Abuja on Sunday, EU EOM confirmed that the final group of observers left Nigeria on Sunday, while the Chief Observer would return to present the missions final report.

The Governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Dankwambo, has said that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was ‘painfully’ betrayed in his state during the just-concluded 2019 general elections.

The governor, however, expressed optimism that time will reveal everything that pertains to the betrayal of the party in the state.

The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State, Saturday affirmed the qualification and eligibility of Osun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ademola Adeleke, to hold office.

The court, presided over by Justice M A Damjuma, dismissed the appeal against the judgment of Osogbo High Court which had confirmed the eligibility of Adeleke to contest for the governorship of Osun State.

The Buhari Youth Organisation (BYO) in collaboration with Youth Support Groups in the North Central have expressed their dissatisfaction with the zoning formula of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on the leadership of the upcoming 9th National Assembly.

Mr Dabit Joseph, the North Central Coordinator of the group, made the disclosure at a news conference in Keffi, Nasarawa State, on Friday.

The Peoples Democratic Party has directed all members of the party that instituted court cases against the party to withdraw them or face sanctions.

The deputy national publicity secretary of the PDP, Diran Odeyemi, said in a statement on Thursday that the party considered myriads of cases instituted against it by its members as inimical to the successes it has achieved in the last few years.

The South East All Progressives Congress Publicity Secretaries have endorsed Nkiru Onyejeocha, representing Isiukwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State, for the Speaker, House of Representatives.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to tender an unreserved apology to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen, and restore him to his position with immediate effect.

Onnoghen is standing trial on an alleged six-count charge of failure to disclose his assets as required by the law for public office holders.

The charge was preferred against him by the federal government following a petition to the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) by Mr. Dennis Aghanya, an associate of President Buhari, and a director of the Anti-corruption and Research Database Initiative.

Imo State State Governor, Rochas Okorocha has attacked the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Adams Oshoimhole again, saying that with him in charge, the party will have a serious setback in 2023.

The trial of Abiodun Agbele, an aide to a former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, continued on March 28, 2019 with a prosecution witness narrating how he coordinated the movement of the N1.2 billion slush fund in the build-up to the Ekiti State governorship election in 2014.

Against the backdrop of the recent suspension of the 2019 governorship election in Rivers State, halfway through the process, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said on Saturday in Port Harcourt that no fresh elections would be held in the state. Rather, INEC said there will be a process to complete the election, which was suspended on March 10 following violence at some collation centres. INEC National Commissioner supervising Bayelsa, Edo and Rivers states, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, made the clarification while addressing stakeholders as part of the process for the completion of the election.

Agbamuche-Mbu said results of the governorship election in 17 of the 23 local government areas of the state were safe in the strong room of the commission in Abuja.

President of the Living Faith Church worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, on Friday, said God saved Nigerians during the 2019 election.

Manchester United have announced that current caretaker manager and former striker, Ole Gunnar Solskjær, has been appointed as the club’s full-time manager on a three-year contract.

The club announced the appointment in a statement on Wednesday.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it would wait for the directive of the Supreme Court before it could make a final decision on the contentious primary elections of the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) in Zamfara State.

A Zamfara State High Court had recognised the primary elections that produced governorship, state and National Assembly candidates held by the APC faction loyal to Governor Abdulaziz Yari and ordered INEC to accept the party candidates for the elections.

Justice Abdulaaziz Waziri of Yola State High court on Tuesday lifted the interlocutory injunction restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission from conducting supplementary governorship elections in Adamawa State.

The INEC had fixed March 23, 2019 as the date of the rerun after declaring the earlier election inconclusive but the court stopped the conduct of the election in the state pending the determination of a suit before it.

The said suit was filed by Mustapha Shaba, who represented the governorship candidate of the Movement for the Restoration and Defence of Democracy, Eric Thema.

The Campaign Council of the All Progressives Congress President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, has formally lodged a complaint against the opposition Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for allegedly criminally hacking into the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The complaint was lodged via a letter on Monday to the Acting Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Department of State Services.

The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja on Friday dismissed the separate objections filed by the All Progressives Congress and its candidate, Gboyega Oyetola, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission against the petition challenging their victory at the September 2018 election.

The Peoples Democratic Party and its governorship candidate in the election filed the petition urging the tribunal to declare that he polled the highest lawful votes and should be declared the winner.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said governors-elect in states where elections have been concluded will get their certificates of return from Wednesday 27 March to Friday 29 March.

INEC’s national commissioner and chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, said this on Thursday in Abuja at a press briefing.

The certificates will be presented by supervising national commissioners of the respective states, he said.
