The equity contribution part was not a problem. However, I approached my state (Ondo State) Commissioner of Agriculture to see how we can get the expanse of land needed for the project. I made him see the benefits e.g job creation of over 250 people, IGR, Export Rebate, FX income etc.

You know what he said..............Abeg make I no air my state dirty linen on Naira land. That's how me I jejelly carried my fund and went into other business. This was a project that by the time we harvest the plantain alone, it would have repaid almost half of our indebtedness to the bank within the first one year o.


U see, part of the problem here is our own doing. Well, i haven't given up just yet. God's willing, I hope to achieve this dream before I clock 40. I have a couple of years left though.

Part of d reason why ur initial didn't fly was because u wanted to do it alone.

In recent times, & to overcome numerous challenges that will arise, cluster farms is d best solution.

We are setting up CocoaVillages in all d cocoa belt of Nigeria. The bizness is for matured minds only who can delay their gratification.

If Nigeria can process her cocoa and sell product abroad. We will be the richest in the world. I read an article that says that Ivory Coast make 2 billion dollar annually while a company in switzerland made 12 billion dollar that same year through processing

Reason is d Cotonou boys are wiser now. They are now leasing farmlands by themselves. So, why work for u & earn 150-200k when they can work for themselves & earn 10x that.

Unfortunately, the farmers make the least money, while the cocoa products manufacturers makes the most most money.

The purpose of this group & the proposed *CocoaVillage* is to find a middle level among the four categories.

We can not & must not just be simply cocoa farmers like our grandfathers.

The best seed to plant by any farmer is d FS seed otherwise known as Foundation Stock Seed as it has all agronomy characteristics of d parent stock. FS seeds are non-hybrid seeds

Nearly all agro-shops sell certified or registered or just ordinary seed camouflage as hybrid.

Am not sure how high up on Nifor you are but the official processs for obtaining seedlings from nifor is cumbersome and counterproductive.

On the nifor website there are contact details there, infact I have been I talks with one of the deputy directors in charge of supplying the seedlings by the name of Dr Solomon. I was promised heaven and earth and told to write numerous letters applying for seedling to the director who most times is away in Abuja and after visiting the nifor office, I was still constantly promised and reassured that there is enough seedling to go round.

I was getting really worried by early April since there was no official confirmation that I ll get the 1200+ seedling am after and after putting pressure I was eventually told to explore other options like nifor partners selling nifor sourced seedlings at 3 times the nifor price but no surprises because these partners are nifor employees with their own side business.

Nigeria is such a scam! Nifor knows for a fact they are unable to meet the demands but still strings you along until very close to planting season when you have little options left but to patronise "their" so called partners.

And its just plain ridiculous that every application to buy seedling has to be approved by the director of nifor! Does the guy not have anything better to spend his time on rather than hold people hostage by insisting on vetting all seedling applications?

Typical Nigeria government employee, he wants in on all the action.

That's my personal experience with nifor.

Typical Nigerian style. But some of us have refused to gv up.
