Ondo HMB Chairman Allegedly Assaulted Following Recruitment Dispute

Dr Oluwafemi Akeredolu, Chairman of the Ondo State Hospital Management Board, was allegedly assaulted in his Akure office on Monday, Starnews NG reports.

According to a witness who spoke and shared the video with Starnews NG, the incident occurred after Dr Akeredolu refused to grant recruitment requests from union leaders, allegedly led by the State Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) Chairman, Comrade Ajiboye Segun. The union leaders reportedly sought positions for various candidates, including a relative of the JNC Chairman who holds a degree in Education Biology.

Dr Akeredolu reportedly declined these requests, citing a directive from the State Governor to adhere strictly to established quotas and budget constraints. Furthermore, he maintained that only qualified health professionals should be recruited for state hospitals, noting that Education Biology graduates are better suited for roles within the education sector.

The 2026 Osun governorship election has produced more than a winner. Beyond Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory, the poll exposed the growing influence of voters, money politics, celebrity activism, security deployment and the conduct of political actors.

INEC declared Adeleke of the Accord Party winner with 511,067 votes, ahead of APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam came a distant third with 17,180 votes, while Adeleke won 19 local government areas to Oyebamiji’s 11. 

Here are 20 major takeaways from the election:

1. Adeleke Has Secured A Second Mandate

The biggest takeaway is that Ademola Adeleke has retained the Osun governorship, defeating his major challenger, Bola Oyebamiji, by 66,252 votes. The result gives Adeleke another term after his first victory in 2022. 

2. The Osun Electorate Ultimately Had The Final Say

Despite the intense political contest, allegations, money politics and heavy security presence, Osun voters still turned out to cast their ballots.

The election demonstrated that political strategies can influence voters, but the electorate remains the final determinant of who wins at the polling booth.

3. Money Politics Remains A Major Problem

Vote buying was one of the major concerns surrounding the election. Reports from observers and media organisations indicated allegations of cash being offered to voters in several locations. 

Reports cited sums ranging from ₦25,000 to ₦50,000 in some polling units, although individual allegations require proper verification before being treated as established facts. 

4. The People Appeared To Look Beyond The Money

Perhaps one of the most striking lessons is that money did not automatically translate into victory.

With allegations of vote buying involving political actors, the result nevertheless showed that voters could accept inducements and still vote according to their preferred candidate. This is an important distinction between buying access to a voter and buying the voter's final decision.

5. Both Major Camps Faced Vote-Buying Allegations

The allegations were not limited to one political camp. Reports and observer findings raised concerns about vote trading involving political party agents, while Kimpact Development Initiative documented 19 suspected cases of vote trading among the polling units it monitored. 

Therefore, the issue should be treated as a wider problem of Nigeria's electoral system rather than simply an allegation against one party.

6. Tinubu Became A Major Test Of The Election

President Bola Tinubu's role became one of the major political talking points before the election.

Tinubu urged Osun voters to go out and vote for candidates of their choice without fear and called for a peaceful and credible process. 

For supporters of electoral integrity, the eventual result will therefore be viewed against the President's public assurances.

7. Tinubu Did Not Publicly Endorse A Rigging Agenda

This point needs careful wording.

Rather than stating as an established fact that there was a “rigging plan” which Tinubu rejected, the stronger journalistic takeaway is that Tinubu publicly positioned himself against electoral manipulation by calling for a credible poll and assuring voters of protection. 

That distinction is important because allegations of rigging are not the same as proof of a coordinated rigging plan.

HOW I FIRST RECEIVED THE NEWS
At about 8:20 a.m. on September 3rd, 2025, while at my parents’ home in Ode Aye, I noticed several missed calls from Mr. Jimi Akinyan, former Ondo State SDP Secretary. The frequency of the calls immediately unsettled me.
When I returned the call, he asked when I last spoke with my boss and urged me to reach out to him urgently. My attempts to call Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA) did not connect. Minutes later, Mr. Akinyan phoned again, saying he had received disturbing information suggesting that OBA had passed on but needed confirmation. I was completely shocked.

ATTEMPTS TO CONFIRM THE NEWS

I repeatedly called Mrs. Christianah Akingboye, but her line was busy and later declined. I contacted OBA’s eldest son, Mr. Samuel Akingboye, who confirmed the sad news, though he was himself confused and still trying to understand what had happened. He promised to update me as he was making arrangements to move the body to the morgue.

My phone was overwhelmed with calls thereafter. I spoke with Mr. Samuel again and obtained his consent to make a formal announcement of the death. I issued a brief, professional public statement to manage the rising public pressure. At that point, no cause of death was known to me.

In a startling revelation, Bode Obanla, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has accused Abayomi Olasanya, the Chief Protocol Officer to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, of orchestrating a campaign of blackmail against the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji Ojo.

In a bold response to a viral video of a clergy man in Nigeria who was seen urging congregants to resort to fetish practices for protection against terrorist attacks, Pastor Akinrinlola Olumide, an end time Preacher, a social critic, and the Publisher of Starnews NG online Newspaper had said that such actions reflect a disturbing departure from true Christian teachings and the power of God.

The devil is truly on the pulpit!

I watched a viral video where a church founder was seen urging the congregation to embrace fetish practices for spiritual empowerment and fortification due to the incessant attacks on Nigerian churches by terrorists. While I agree that Christians must not be stupid, naive, or foolish, I would like to state that the weapons we use are not carnal or fetish.

As Christians, our weapons include the Word of God, praises, worship, repentance, forgiveness, and signs and wonders. While it is permissible and advisable for Christians to defend themselves in physical warfare against terrorists and bandits, it is unbiblical and a complete heresy to advise them to commit spiritual adultery by seeking help from lower gods when the Holy Spirit is available for those who have a relationship with Him and can truly seek Him for the demonstration of power, signs, and wonders.

In 2nd Chronicles 20, the army of Israel under King Jehoshaphat achieved a miraculous victory from God Almighty against a coalition of enemies from the armies of Edom, Moab, and Ammon that came against them with praise and worship, despite their physical weapons. They believed in the power of God and did not even lift a sword to kill one enemy, for God laid ambushes against their foes.

Elijah called down fire from heaven to destroy the king's soldiers in 2nd Kings chapter 1 without shooting a gun. Joshua asked the sun and moon to stand still to have more daylight so that the Israelites could defeat their enemies in battle.

Late Arch Bishop Benson Idahosa sacked a sitting President in Ghana, Lieutenant General Frederick Akuffo, who dared to question his authority. With a mere pronouncement, Idahosa declared that if Akuffo was still in power within a month, then he was not a genuine man of God. It is on record that within a month, on June 4, 1979, Frederick Akuffo was overthrown in a military coup led by Jerry John Rawlings and subsequently executed.

The same Idahosa sent away armed robbers who visited his house with the authority of God and stopped an international meeting of witches and wizards scheduled to hold in Benin City by demonstrating the raw power of God. What about the late Ayo Babalola and others? What about the late Reverend Dr. Uma Ukpai and his demonstration of faith and the power of God?

It was public knowledge how late Dr. Uma Ukpai and his American friend smuggled the Bible into China in traveling bags at a time when such an act was a criminal offence. They both spoke in tongues when it was time for the scanning machine to check their bags, and all the machines at the airport malfunctioned. How about his personal testimonies of surviving assassination attempts and other dangers, especially when assassins allegedly forced him to drink a poisonous substance? He reportedly declared, "Men like me don't die," and he drank it and survived.

In the New Testament, there is no place in the Scriptures where the apostles urged Christians facing persecution to run to the devil for power or to engage in fetish practices to protect themselves.

Jesus Christ has never changed; His power remains the same. The God who operated in the days of Prophet Elijah, Ayo Babalola, and Benson Idahosa is still the same today. As stated in Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."

It is unfortunate that many contemporary churches seem to have strayed from the authentic demonstration of God's power. The lines between the church and the world have blurred, leading to a troubling reality where the world has infiltrated the church. This compromise is a significant reason why we no longer witness the transformative power of God in our congregations.

Many pastors today seem to be operating business centres rather than true houses of worship. In their pursuit of profit, they have forgotten the core mission of the church: to bring people into a genuine relationship with Christ and to demonstrate His power and love. Some leaders are more focused on maintaining a religious facade than on fostering a vibrant, living faith that reflects the teachings of Jesus.

Moreover, some individuals have entered the ministry for personal gain, motivated by their own needs rather than a calling from God. They preach messages that cater to their desires, leading congregants away from the truth of the Gospel. This shift away from genuine Christianity has resulted in a lack of the miraculous and a decline in spiritual fervour within our churches.

The event, organised by Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, the founder of the BEMORE Empowered Girls Foundation, took place at the BRECAN Centre on Akinyemi Way, Off Ring Road, Ibadan.
Flanked by secondary school girls and other dignitaries, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu called for greater female representation in Nigeria’s state and national assemblies to promote gender equality.

An 18-year-old secondary school graduate, Abdul Basit Qazim, has emerged as a beacon of hope in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against fuel scarcity with the development of an electric solar-powered tricycle.

Starnews NG gathered that under the mentorship of his father, Mr Fola Qazim Oredeko, an expert in innovative design systems, Abdul Basit has channelled his passion for engineering into creating a practical solution that addresses fuel challenges, environmental concerns, and economic pressures.

Motivated by the daily struggles he witnessed growing up in Nigeria, where rising fuel costs and environmental degradation have become the norm, Abdul Basit embarked on an ambitious project to design a sustainable mode of transportation.

According to him, his father always encouraged him to use his talent for the betterment of society, a lesson that inspired the creation of his eco-friendly tricycle.

Insecurity: You are a sycophant and traitor, Erelu Oodua attacks Lai Mohammed over careless talk

Erelu Mabel Tinuade Onaneye, the titleholder of Erelu Oodua and Irawo Ooni-Oodua of Yoruba land,
has berated the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed for saying it is untrue and smacks of dirty politicking that President Muhammadu Buhari has nothing more to offer in tackling insecurity in Nigeria.

Starnews Nigeria had reported that former President Olusegun Obasanjo says the incumbent President, Muhammadu Buhari, ), has done his best to proffer solutions to the security challenges confronting the nation, adding that Nigerians should not expect more from the Katsina-born retired major general.

Obasanjo made this known this week when leaders of socio-cultural organisations met in Abuja at a retreat on inclusive security organised by the Global Peace Foundation in collaboration with Vision Africa.

The elder statesmen including Obasanjo; Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, amongst others, lamented the incessant kidnappings, killings in the country, calling for collective actions to halt the worsening insecurity ubiquitous in the country.

Obasanjo said Nigerians should stop wasting time asking for the 78-year-old President to proffer more security solutions but should focus on the post-Buhari era.

But Buhari’s Minister, Lai Mohammed, while addressing a press conference on Wednesday in Abuja, faulted criticism that President Buhari has nothing more to offer in tackling insecurity.
