THE Police in Zone 5, Benin, have arrested six persons, including a native doctor, allegedly involved in a plot to assassinate one Etinosa Ighodalo of lyowa in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State. Also arrested and paraded before newsmen is one Stephen Enakhare Oshoma alleged to be a notorious fraudster, who specialised in forging corporate institutions documents, such as university degree certificates, school certificates, driver’s license and bank statements, among others. According to the zonal Public Relations Officer of the Police, ASP Emeka Iheanacho, the suspects were arrested following a tip-off from members of the public. According to him, “the assassination attempt was due to power tussle over local politics of who becomes the chairman of Iyowa.” He said a list containing the name of the would-be victim and nine others marked for murder was recovered from the shrine. Although the suspects denied the allegations, saying the names were drawn to ensure peace in the community, the native doctor said the suspects gave him the list of persons to be dealt with, but that he declined. A middle-aged man (names withheld) has been arrested by Benue State Police Command for allegedly beheading his neighbour over a land dispute. Vanguard gathered from a source that the suspect allegedly killed his victim at Utonkon in Ado Local Government Area of the state, , yesterday morning. According the source, the deceased, who hailed from Ado local government, had been at loggerheads with the suspected killer who hailed from neighbouring Oju, over a disputed piece of land. The source said: “Both men and their respective families have been quarrelling over a piece of land that is located around the boundaries of both Ado and Oju local government areas. “We heard that both men met in the farm this morning (yesterday) and a fight ensued between them in the bush without anybody knowing. “The suspect eventually overpowered the deceased and killed him with a machete after which he cut off his head and buried his body in a shallow grave inside the farm. “He was running away with the head in a polythene bag when he was caught by members of the local security outfit in the village, who eventually took him to Otukpo Police Area Command, where he is currently being interrogated.” While speaking to reporters at the Police Station in Otukpo, the suspect said the victim threatened to kill him during an argument. When contacted, Benue State Police Public Relations Office, Assistant Superintendent Austin Ezeani, who confirmed the incident, said the matter was being investigated. He said: “The suspect is being held at the Otukpo Area Command, where he is being interrogated. He is a native of Oju, while his victim hailed from Ado, all Benue State.” Vanguard learned that the killing had sparked anger in Ado, with the people of the area threatening a reprisal attack on the people of Oju. President Muhammadu Buhari has resisted fresh moves by the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, to formally meet with him, SUNDAY PUNCH has learnt. An official in the Presidency who confided in one of our correspondents on Saturday said the President and the Senate President had only met once since the latter’s emergence as the leader of the senate. The official said all efforts by Saraki to have another meeting with the president, after the party’s National Executive Council meeting penultimate Friday, were rebuffed by Buhari. The reliable source said the president of the Senate had at different times reached out to people to help him persuade Buhari to grant him audience. Saraki had defied the All Progressives Congress to contest for the position of the senate president on June and emerged victorious after a controversial election that excluded a sizeable number of senators. The APC had endorsed Senator Ahmed Lawan as its candidate for the senate presidency. The government official who spoke to SUNDAY PUNCH said, “The truth is that the President is still displeased with what transpired in the National Assembly, especially the Senate. “Their encounter during the APC National Executive Council meeting, when they shook hands, was the first meeting between President Buhari and Saraki since he emerged as the President of the Senate. “We are aware that Saraki has been going about begging people to assist him to plead with the President to meet with him. That was one of the reasons why he visited former President Obasanjo. “I can tell you that the President is very pained by what happened. He felt that since he had been transparent with the party, everybody should play that way. But since Saraki took that path, the President was and he is still pained. Let us just hope that at the end of it all, they will be able to put the matter behind them.” Also speaking to SUNDAY PUNCH, a highly placed party official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, told one of our correspondents that the handshake between the President and Saraki during the recent NEC meeting of the APC “was for journalists.” He stated, “President Buhari is still upset because of what happened. If you read in-between the line his speech during our last NEC meeting, he reminded people who joined the party after it was formed not to rubbish the sacrifices made by party leaders. “It was not for the fun of it that the President took time to go down the memory lane to trace the genesis of the APC. “Although the President said he was prepared to work with anybody who emerged as leader in the National Assembly, he did not envisage a scenario where Saraki would emerge as the Senate President and Ike Ekweremadu, a member of the PDP, would emerge as the deputy president of the Senate.” Asked whether or not the President might change his mind anytime soon, the source said, “Not until the governors, who were mandated by the NEC to resolve the matter in the National Assembly, bring the matter under control.” When contacted, the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, said there was no cause for alarm. During a telephone interview on Saturday, Olaniyonu said Buhari had repeatedly told Nigerians that he believed in the independence of the parliament. He explained that Buhari had had cause to formally communicate with on “state issues” and that they exchanged warm pleasantries at the APC NEC meeting held in Abuja. He said, “The president of a nation can have private discussions with the Senate President or the Speaker of the House of Representatives anytime he likes. “At the moment, President Buhari, probably wants the issue around the National Assembly leadership positions formally resolved before calling for such meetings. He has said that he would not involve himself in the affairs of the legislature and we should respect his views.” Olaniyonu explained that Saraki and Buhari had been having regular official communication and that such would continue because the Senate would have to approve all appointments made by the President. Asked why the President had met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, without meeting with Saraki up till now, Olaniyonu answered that he was not aware of the Buhari-Dogara meeting. He said, “I am not aware of that meeting you talked about. If the meeting had held, the picture taken afterwards would have been published in the dailies. To the best of my knowledge, I don’t think there was anything like that. “ Also, the spokesperson for the pro-Saraki Senators of Like Minds, Dino Melaye, told one of our correspondents on Saturday that Saraki and Buhari met and had fruitful deliberation at the NEC meeting of the APC. “The President and the Senate President met at the NEC meeting. We are all awaiting the outcome of the peace moves initiated at the meeting. For now, there is no cause for concern,” he said. |

THE Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and a former governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi were yesterday engaged in war of words over alleged moves to prosecute the former governor by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. While the PDP raised alarm over plans to shield Fayemi from inevitable arrest and prosecution by EFCC, the former governor said the party was merely hallucinating. In a statement by the state’s Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr Jackson Adebayo alleged that some leaders of APC were planning to approach President Muhammadu Buhari through his closets men from the north in a “desperate attempt to shield Fayemi from inevitable arrest and prosecution by EFCC”. Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti State Dr. Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti State The party said “it has come to our notice that there is a sinister motive by the leaderships of the All Progressive Congress to put presure on the presidency to halt the investigation of the former APC governor by the EFCC when it dawned on them that the various petitions before the EFCC on the financial mismanagement of the APC administration in Ekiti State between 2010 and 2014 can not be ignored again by the anti graft body in its current moves against past governors.”, The PDP, however, noted that “We are aware that the Special Fraud Unit of the Nigeria police have reached an advanced stage in their investigation of the financial mismanagement of the immediate past government in Ekiti State and alleged outright diversion of money meant for the state to private pockets. We are also aware that Fayemi has approached a top security chief who is very close to the president to intervene., “ Fayemi reacts In his reaction, Chief Press Secretary to Fayemi, Mr Olayinka Oyebode declared that “I think the PDP-led government in the state is merely hallucinating.” Oyebode, ‘told Vanguard that “This is a pure case of hallucination. You and I know that it is the incumbent governor, Ayodele Fayose, that has a case with EFCC. And I am sure you know that his N1.3billion poultry scam case came up at the Ado-Ekiti High Court sometimes in 2014 shortly before the elections. The case could not be heard on its adjourned date owing to the closure of courts in Ekiti since last year.” Oyebode added that “if there is anybody who should be running from pillar to post, begging to be bailed out of EFCC investigations or trial by the anti-corruption agencies, it should be Fayose.” Absolving the Fayemi administration of mismanagement of state funds, Oyebode said “Fayemi ran one of the most responsible and corruption-free governments not only in Ekiti State, but in the country. He has been out of office for nine months and has not been invited by any anti-corruption agency be it EFCC or ICPC.’’ Source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/pdp-apc-bicker-over-alleged-efcc-move-against-fayemi/#sthash.dEitWE7H.dpuf |

A man of God (names withheld) has allegedly defrauded a former church member, Ms. Rita Okoro, of N5,000,000, being part of the total sum he had obtained from her and her family members, while pretending to assist in securing the release of her brother, who had been detained by police in Lagos since January 17 It was learned that Ms. Okoro, and her sister, Ngozi, were members of the said prophet’s church, until they discovered that he had been taking advantage of their predicament, like many other members of his church, to exploit and defraud them. Vanguard gathered that Rita and her family are not the only victims of the prophet’s fraudulent activities. However, not many members of his church whom he had defrauded have mustered the courage, like Rita and her family, to speak up. Okoro told Vanguard that sometime in January, following the arrest and indefinite detention of his brother by police operatives from the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja, Lagos, over an allegation of being an informant to a kidnapping gang, and frustrated by the persistent refusal by SARS to either charge him to court or even allow their family or legal representatives to see him, they approached the prophet for assistance. She said the prophet agreed to help and made calls to a ‘top police officer’ at the Force Headquarters, Abuja. She said the prophet then claimed to have travelled to Abuja and then started demanding money for logistics. She said at different times, she had given money to the prophet and paid some into his account, amounting to N5,000,000. She said: “At this point, we sensed foul play and wrote a petition through Network for Police Reform in Nige-ria, NOPRIN, to Special Fraud Unit, SFU, EFCC and ICPC with a view to assisting me recover my money and to investigate the prophet’s activities.” Source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/prophet-allegedly-swindles-member-of-n5m/#sthash.iZqcvd7b.dpuf |

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, Mr. Daniel Omoluabi, has berated the state Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Dan Orbih for attempting to insult the intelligence of Edo people over his unnecessary outcry against the approvals of the state governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for the official trip to the United States of America during Edo Convention in Chicago. Omoluabi, in a statement said the PDP Chairman’s accusation reminded people of Edo State of the massive corruption and scandal that rocked the state House of Assembly during the PDP administration in the state. According to him, “Dan Orbih’s party, the PDP, is as controversial as the messenger himself who has knack for reminding us of how Edo State should not be administered in the 21st century. The way they administered it during the PDP era when monies were approved for legislators for aboard trips but were simply ‘pocketed’ without embarking on the journeys. Orbih did not succeed in stigmatising the Oshiomhole-led administration who’s legitimate and constitutional approvals were captured in the budget because all the officials who got approvals attended the convention for which the monies were mean for. “While waving his gibberish accusations, the truth is that without knowing it, the well known frustrated party chairman has opened a Pandora box which must be properly analysed side by side with the PDP administration in the state, which was characterised by organised wastage of state resources. Take for instance, when a governor chartered a flight abroad and upon reaching his destination, suddenly forgot that his concoction root gin was not with him and as such had to order one of his aides with the flight to fetch it immediately with tax payers money. It happened during the PDP led administration.” - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/09/apc-chieftain-berates-edo-pdp-chairman-attacks-oshiomhole/#sthash.3ajFCy1o.dpuf |
CHAIRMAN of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees, Chief (Dr) Tony Anenih, has been called a political tactician-in-chief. He has been called the Oracle of Uromi. He also has been called Nigeria’s political Nostradamus. What is self-evident is that, in the firmament of the country’s politics for more than three decades now, Anenih is a man of exceptional importance and reputation. More to the point of this article, the recent adoption of President Goodluck Jonathan as the PDP candidate for the February 14, 2015 presidential election by the party’s National Executive Committee proves once again that Anenih possesses unmatched capacity for political prognosis and strategy. Anenih it was who, in early 2013, first suggested that the party should grant Jonathan automatic ticket to seek re-election in 2015. At a PDP family dinner held in Abuja on the night of Thursday, May 30, 2013, he reiterated the idea and the suggestion garnered national attention. During the event, the BoT Chairman explained how experience had shown that squabbling for tickets at primaries invariably led to internal crises in the party before the main elections. Consequently, he advocated the automatic ticket option in order to avoid unnecessary and prolonged crises within the party. At the time, a number of party members supported Anenih’s proposal. However, there were also a few who did not agree with the BoT Chairman’s idea. Fast-forward two years and four months to September 2015 and Anenih’s suggestion took on a life of its own. First, PDP members of the House of Representatives endorsed Jonathan to fly the party’s flag in 2015. Second, the PDP governors followed suit. The party’s BoT also toed the same line and then the National Executive Committee crowned it all, thereby indicating that the entire party had seen and accepted the wisdom in Anenih’s proposal. To further buttress his unrivalled grasp of the intricacies of the nation’s politics, while others were dilly-dallying and unable to take a stand on whether Jonathan will run for re-election in 2015, Anenih was also the first to take a categorical stand. Speaking at a gathering of party members during a tour of the South-South zone by the PDP chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, Anenih said, “I want the national chairman to go home with a word from the father that come 2015, Jonathan will run for presidency for the second term.” Clearly, Anenih’s confidence in Jonathan’s intention to run goes beyond what may be regarded as a political filial relationship, being that he referred to himself as Jonathan’s political father. It is anchored in the reality that, as the sitting BoT Chairman and a founding member of the PDP, he is very conversant with the inner workings, challenges, and the many successes of the party. It is worth recalling here that, to mark the 2015 Democracy Day, Anenih issued a statement in which he not only laid out some of Jonathan’s achievements; he also listed the major accomplishments of the PDP since the country’s return to democratic rule in 1999. In that statement, Anenih was quoted as saying: “Let me express how grateful we, in the Peoples Democratic Party, are to our fellow compatriots that they have entrusted our great party with steering the ship of state since our nation’s return to democracy in 1999. It has been a great privilege and a momentous undertaking. And though—as with all human endeavours—we have had differences with our fellow citizens on the other side of the political divide, our on-going democratic journey is proof that the PDP continues to faithfully discharge its foremost duty to our country, which is sustaining a stable, functional State.” Anenih also said: “Indeed, in its 15 years at the helm of affairs of our great nation, the PDP has created an atmosphere that allows total freedom of expression, dissent and the greatest level of inclusive political participation ever recorded in our country. A case in point is that never before has Nigeria seen the high number of women in senior elective and appointive positions as obtains today under the PDP’s leadership.” Additionally, Anenih further remarked: “Moreover, it is to the credit of the President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan-led PDP government that this ambience of democratic freedom has encouraged the most combative opposition rhetoric ever experienced in Nigeria’s history. President Jonathan has also demonstrated respect for the rule of law by his non-interference in judicial, legislative and electoral matters.” In view of the fact that as Chairman of PDP’s BoT, Anenih has firsthand knowledge of these achievements and many others; he can say with full conviction that Jonathan will seek re-election in 2015. And just as it has been proved that he had incomparable political foresight when way back in 2013 he began canvassing for Jonathan to be granted automatic ticket in 2015, it is safe to say that in the coming months, his certainty in Jonathan’s re-election bid and ultimate success will be proved right. - See more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/09/anenih-oracle-chief/#sthash.mHG170dc.dpuf |

Is it Foolish to Date a Guy Based on His Potential? Question my younger sister ask! |
1. Start spending time with the right people. – These are the people you enjoy, who love and appreciate you, and who encourage you to improve in healthy and exciting ways. They are the ones who make you feel more alive, and not only embrace who you are now, but also embrace and embody who you want to be, unconditionally. 2. Start facing your problems head on. – It isn’t your problems that define you, but how you react to them and recover from them. Problems will not disappear unless you take action. Do what you can, when you can, and acknowledge what you’ve done. It’s all about taking baby steps in the right direction, inch by inch. These inches count, they add up to yards and miles in the long run. 3. Start being honest with yourself about everything. – Be honest about what’s right, as well as what needs to be changed. Be honest about what you want to achieve and who you want to become. Be honest with every aspect of your life, always. Because you are the one person you can forever count on. Search your soul, for the truth, so that you truly know who you are. Once you do, you’ll have a better understanding of where you are now and how you got here, and you’ll be better equipped to identify where you want to go and how to get there. Read The Road Less Traveled . 4. Start making your own happiness a priority. – Your needs matter. If you don’t value yourself, look out for yourself, and stick up for yourself, you’re sabotaging yourself. Remember, it IS possible to take care of your own needs while simultaneously caring for those around you. And once your needs are met, you will likely be far more capable of helping those who need you most. 5. Start being yourself, genuinely and proudly. – Trying to be anyone else is a waste of the person you are. Be yourself. Embrace that individual inside you that has ideas, strengths and beauty like no one else. Be the person you know yourself to be – the best version of you – on your terms. Above all, be true to YOU, and if you cannot put your heart in it, take yourself out of it. 6. Start noticing and living in the present. – Right now is a miracle. Right now is the only moment guaranteed to you. Right now is life. So stop thinking about how great things will be in the future. Stop dwelling on what did or didn’t happen in the past. Learn to be in the ‘here and now’ and experience life as it’s happening. Appreciate the world for the beauty that it holds, right now. 7. Start valuing the lessons your mistakes teach you. – Mistakes are okay; they’re the stepping stones of progress. If you’re not failing from time to time, you’re not trying hard enough and you’re not learning. Take risks, stumble, fall, and then get up and try again. Appreciate that you are pushing yourself, learning, growing and improving. Significant achievements are almost invariably realized at the end of a long road of failures. One of the ‘mistakes’ you fear might just be the link to your greatest achievement yet. 8. Start being more polite to yourself. – If you had a friend who spoke to you in the same way that you sometimes speak to yourself, how long would you allow that person to be your friend? The way you treat yourself sets the standard for others. You must love who you are or no one else will. 9. Start enjoying the things you already have. – The problem with many of us is that we think we’ll be happy when we reach a certain level in life – a level we see others operating at – your boss with her corner office, that friend of a friend who owns a mansion on the beach, etc. Unfortunately, it takes awhile before you get there, and when you get there you’ll likely have a new destination in mind. You’ll end up spending your whole life working toward something new without ever stopping to enjoy the things you have now. So take a quiet moment every morning when you first awake to appreciate where you are and what you already have. 10. Start creating your own happiness. – If you are waiting for someone else to make you happy, you’re missing out. Smile because you can. Choose happiness. Be the change you want to see in the world. Be happy with who you are now, and let your positivity inspire your journey into tomorrow. Happiness is often found when and where you decide to seek it. If you look for happiness within the opportunities you have, you will eventually find it. But if you constantly look for something else, unfortunately, you’ll find that too. BY: MARC CHERNOFF |
Straight to the point. 1. Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference. – Don’t base your attitude on how things are. Choose your attitude so it supports and expresses the way you wish to be. Frustration and stress come from the way you respond and react, not the circumstance themselves. Adjust your attitude, and the frustration and stress is gone. 2. Let go of the need to complain about life. – Spend your moments actually living its beauty. Change the phrase “have to” to “get to.” So many things we complain about are things others wish they had the chance to do. 3. Positivity always pays off. – Your thoughts do not end when you finish thinking them. They continue to echo through your life. Choose wisely and intentionally. Be outrageously and unreasonably positive. Be funny and creative and ridiculous and joyful all at the same time. Smile as often as possible. A smile actually changes the vibe of your body. It alters, physiologically, the chemistry of your being. It will make you feel better and do better. 4. Negativity just shortens your life. – Before you waste it on anger, resentment, spite or envy, always think of how precious and irreplaceable your time is. 5. Worry is the biggest enemy of the present moment. – It does nothing but steal your joy and keep you very busy doing absolutely nothing at all. When you spend time worrying, you’re simply using your imagination to create things you don’t want. 6. Don’t run away from things; run toward them. – The best way to move away from something negative is to move toward something positive. 7. Gratitude helps every situation. – How can you transform suffering into joy, and struggle into peace? GRATITUDE. Start being grateful for all the problems you do NOT have. 8. Everything is falling together perfectly, even though it looks as if some things are falling apart. – Trust in life’s process. Happiness is allowing yourself to be perfectly OK with what is, rather than wishing for and worrying about what is not. When life is “falling apart,” things could actually be falling together… maybe for the first time. 9. Change is necessary. – Change is the process of life itself. In fact, everything is changing every second of our lives. However good or bad the situation is now, it will change. That’s one thing you can count on. So never assume that you’re stuck with the way things are. Take a breath of fresh air. The past is long gone. Focus on what you can do, not on what you could have or should have done. 10. You are capable of handling far more than you think. – Accept each moment, without judgment or anxiety. Remind yourself that all is well, and that you can handle whatever comes along. Any Addition Will be well appreciated. |
They don't insult and antagonize other people. – Generally speaking, the people who love to gossip, who speak negatively of others, do so because they hope, by comparison, to make themselves look better. Of course, that’s not how it works. Because when you have no respect or consideration for others, it's impossible to have any true confidence in yourself. The only comparison a truly confident person makes is to the person she was yesterday – and to the person she hopes to someday become. |
Highly confident people have no interest in pleasing everyone they meet. They are aware that not all people agree on things, and that’s just how life works. They focus on the quality of their relationships, instead of the quantity of them. So never let the opinions of the masses define who you are or what you can or cannot do. When you let go of the need to impress everyone, that's when you begin to be truly impressive to the few people who actually matter. When you earn the trust and respect of these select few people, no matter where you go or what you try, you will do it with confidence – because you know the people who matter are behind you. |
