Police say an inmate at the Utah State Hospital may have killed another prisoner over his snoring. James Norman, 33, is currently on lockdown at the state hospital accused of strangling his roommate -- 28-year-old Omar Abas Sharif -- to death on the night of March 18. Voodoo grandma Sylvenie Thessier gets three years for setting girl ablaze in demon-casting ritual The voodoo grandma who stood by while her 6-year-old granddaughter was set ablaze in a bizarre demon-casting ritual was sentenced to three years in prison on Wednesday. Sylvenie Thessier was led from a Queens courtroom in tears after Justice Richard Buchter scolded her for not getting Frantzcia Saintil medical attention. "That child deserved to be cared for and deserved to have her wounds treated," Buchter said. Thessier, 71, pleaded guilty to reckless endangerment for the June 2009 incident. The child's mother poured rum over her head and lit her on fire to drive out evil spirits - and Thessier only doused her with water and put her to sleep, prosecutors said. Thessier, a native of Haiti, admitted she was negligent. Illinois Teen Claims She Was Shot, Robbed For April Fool's Prank. BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- A 16-year-old central Illinois girl has been given $150 in tickets after the worried victims of her April Fool's Day prank called police. Bloomington police say the girl texted her friend and cousin Friday morning and said she'd been robbed and shot in the foot. The pair called police, who rushed to a home where they found the 16-year-old safe. She hadn't been robbed or shot. The (Bloomington) Pantagraph reports the girl received a $100 ticket for disorderly conduct and a $50 ticket for truancy because she wasn't in school Friday.Police say she could have been criminally charged with filing a false police report. Bloomington police spokesman Dave White says the friend and cousin did the right thing by calling police.
