A parents role should only be advisory and nothing more.

A parent should under no circumstance whatsoever dictate whom their children should marry.
It is wrong.

However one shouldn't rule out the crucial role parental blessings play on the lives of married couples.

That's why there has to be an "agreement" between the couples and their parents.
Because your parents don't agree with your choice of spouse doesn't mean you should just run off with him/her into the sunset and marry behind their backs.
