Buhari Media Organisation has rejected the appointment of the co-founder and chief executive of BudgIT, Seun Onigbinde, as technical adviser to the minister of finance, budget and national planning, Zainab Ahmed.

News of Mr Onigbinde’s appointment broke on Friday.

The BudgIT boss, known to have been vocal in his criticism of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, came under intense attack on social media for accepting the appointment.

In a statement on Sunday signed by BMO chairman, Niyi Akinsiju, and secretary Cassidy Madueke, the organisation said Onigbinde’s acceptance of the appointment shows he lacks honour.

“Seun Onigbinde lacks honour and integrity, which are characters known of President Buhari, and thus could not be in the same team with him,” the statement said.

“He has severally described the President with the most distasteful terms and has shown, especially on social media, that he sees nothing good in the administration of President Buhari.

“Onigbinde had also gone to the shameful extent of describing those who support the President and his administration as ‘ethnic jingoists’. He once referred to the President as ‘incompetent’ and accused him of being a dictator committing illegality.



“We cannot but wonder that this same man accepted an appointment to serve in this same administration he has described in the most odious terms. It shows he lacks honour.”

The group also called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to reject Onigbinde’s appointment and call for his removal from the government, adding that “there are countless supporters of the President who have more powerful backgrounds and records, who are better qualified.”

The Okonjo Royal family of Ogwashi-Uku has accused a former finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, of contradicting tradition by announcing the death of her father, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Prof. Chukuka Okonjo, and naming his successor.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala announced the death of her 91-year-old father on Friday via Twitter and his successor, her brother, Ifechukwude Okonjo.



In a statement on Sunday signed by a lawyer, Patrick Okonjo, the Umu Obi Obahai Royal Family said the announcement of the passing of a monarch and his successor was a traditional function.

The statement said: “We observe, with sadness and pity, the despicable ploy by a renegade faction of the Umu Obi Obahai royal family of Ogwashi-Uku, to desecrate the Ogwashi-Uku traditional institution, following the passing away of Prof. Ben Chukwuka Okonjo.

“In furtherance of this devious plan, one Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has purported to announce the transition of an Obi of Ogwashi-Uku and proclaimed the ascension to the same throne by her brother, Ifechukwude Okonjo (Chude).

“I wish to point out for the information of the general public, particularly Ogwashians, as follows.

“It is sacrilegious of Ogwashi-Uku custom and tradition for a Princess to announce the transition of the monarch or proclaim another. It is a purely traditional function.

“Prof. Okonjo was never an Obi of Ogwashi-Uku under our tradition but a mere Regent. Accordingly, his first child cannot be Obi, as deceitfully inferred by Ngozi.

“Succession to the traditional stool of Ogwashi-Uku is strictly by PRIMOGENITURE. Prof. Okonjo was never in the line of succession and therefore only served as a REGENT. His 3rd son, Chude, consequently can never be Obi.



“The Obiship of Ogwashi-Uku does not go to the highest bidder, it is rooted in ancient custom and tradition which is inviolable. Prof. Okonjo, in effect, usurped the throne. These issues form the bedrock of Suit No: A/159/2019, Prince Patrick Okonjo v. Prince Nathan Okonjo & 8 Ors, now before the High Court of Justice, Asaba.

“Accordingly, I enjoin the peace-loving people of Ogwashi-Uku not to be perturbed, but to discountenance and pay no heed to the statement made by Ngozi, or for that matter, the charade we have witnessed in Ogwashi-Uku in the past few days.”

Three suspected kidnappers have been shot dead in Kogi State during a shooting encounter with a combined team of soldiers, policemen and local hunters.


The state police command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP William Aya, who confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja on Saturday, said that two of the kidnappers also escaped with gunshot injuries.

Aya said that the five-man armed kidnappers had, on Sept. 11, kidnapped six persons between Iyamoye and Ekinrinade road in Ijumu Local Government area of the state.

The kidnappers, who were masked, were said to have, on the said day, kidnapped Chief Ganiyu Popoola, the Elemoh Aran of Omu-Aran, his brother, Dr Sule Popoola, their nephew, a woman and her husband, said to be a medical doctor, and an unidentified victim.

They were said to be travelling to Lokoja in their separate vehicles when they and another commercial bus ran into a road block mounted by the suspects.

The driver of the commercial bus was, however, able to quickly manoeuvre his vehicle and escaped with a bullet-shattered windscreen towards Omuo-Oke, a border town between Ekiti and Kogi States, O42hits.com report.



The kidnappers, after robbing their victims, later marched them into the nearby thick forest.

Popoola, one of the victims, said that the kidnappers took them to their hideouts where they were detained for hours before they released him, his brother and the only woman among them.

He said that they were given instructions to go and look for ransom to secure the release of others.

Before releasing them, Popoola, who spoke on the telephone, said that their captors took their phone numbers and returned their handsets to them.

042hits.com report that, he said that they trekked for hours before finding their way out of the forest and came out at a spot at Egbeda-Egga community.

On coming out, Popoola said that they sighted two policemen on leg patrol and some other people who they narrated their ordeal to.

He said that it was while doing this that some armed soldiers, led by a major, came to join them, saying that the soldiers were informed of the incident by the driver of the commercial bus who was lucky to escape.

Popoola said that the soldiers, numbering about five, two policemen and the head of local hunters in Egbeda-Egga, led them back to the kidnappers’ hideouts.

He said that the head of local hunters, being familiar with the terrain, asked them some questions, and with answers given to him, was able to lead them to the hideouts with ease.

On sighting them, he said that the kidnappers opened fire, adding that the security agents immediately engaged them in a fierce gun duel during which three of the kidnappers were killed, while two others escaped with gunshot wounds.

The soldiers were said to have carried the corpses of the kidnappers to Iyara divisional police station and also handed over two rifles, one AK-47 and a pump action, to the policemen on duty.

In addition, Aya said that a sum of N57,510 and five different telephone handsets were found on them.

Ekiti State Government on Friday sent a delegation of senior government officials to the families of the two students of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, who were shot dead while protesting against incessant power outage in their school on Tuesday.


The Police had said that no one died during the incident, adding that the protest was hijacked by hoodlums.

However, President of the Student Union Government of FUOYE, Oluwaseun Awodola, insisted that the police were responsible for the death of the students and should be held accountable.

Awodola gave the names of the deceased students as Oluwaseyi Kehinde Dada, a 100-level student of Crop Science and Horticulture; and Joseph Okunofua, a 300-level student of Biology Education.



The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Caleb Ikechukwu, claimed that the students attacked the convoy of the wife of the state governor, Bisi Fayemi.

Ikechukwu also alleged that the students assaulted policemen, damaged a police vehicle. He denied that the Police shot any student at the scene.

A Nigerian believed to be in his forties has died in a detention centre in the United Kingdom.

The immigration detainee, who is yet to be named, was found dead on Thursday evening in his cell in Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre.

The UK’s Home Office is investigating the incident, The Independent reports.

Another detainee, Tapiwa Furumdi, 24, who has been in the facility for a year, was said to have discovered the victim lying still in his cell.

“Someone had gone into the room and found a body and started making noise. Apparently he was already dead. I heard something like: ‘This bloody immigration, look what they’re doing to us,’” he said.

“When I looked in the room, his tongue looked all bloated out of his mouth. I’m still shaken up by it.”

A Home Office spokesperson said the UK government condoles with the victim’s family and friends.

Human rights campaigners have long called for a 28-day limit for detention in removal centres, saying the system is severely damaging for the wellbeing of detainees.

A man believed to be a retired army general has been seen in a video threatening to attack employees of Ikeja Electric who visited his residence in Magodo, Lagos on Thursday.

Holding a pistol and a machete, the furious customer is seen engaging members of the Revenue Protection Team of Ikeja Electric who were on a mission to re-certify and seal prepaid metres.



The objective of the task, according to the team, was to prevent the tampering of metres or energy theft.

However, the customer, who apparently misconstrued the mission of the team, came out with a pistol and machete and threatened to deal with them.

According to him, he pays for electricity as and when due, and has a lot of credit on his metre.



Despite pleas and explanations by the team that they were on a routine duty, the customer insisted they would not enter his property.

The Senate Committee on Finance says it will invite the Minister of Finance and the Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service, (FIRS) to give details on reasons for the proposed increase in Value Added Tax (VAT).


The Chairman of the Committee, Sen. Solomon Adeola, made the disclosure in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Mr Kayode Odunaro, in Abuja on Thursday.

Adeola said the invitation was hinged on the proposed plan to increase VAT from 5 per cent to 7.2 per cent .

The Minister of Finance, Mrs Zainab Ahmed had after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday spoken on the proposed plan to increase VAT.

Adeola, said the proposed increase in VAT had generated mixed reactions among the public on its possible effects on living standards and the economy.

“We are glad that the minister of finance indicated that the VAT act will have to be amended for the increase to take effect.



“But we are concerned about the current economic situation of the country as it affects the generality of the people.”

The chairman said the interaction with the two key officials of Federal Government would form part of the basis for possible amendments of the VAT Act.

According to him, the meeting will further assuage any sentiments against the proposed VAT increase, if eventually the act is amended.

Pastor accuses wife of cheating with another cleric

A clergyman, Joel Banimore, has sought the dissolution of his 19-year-old marriage to his wife, Mary, over an alleged infidelity. Bamimore dragged his wife before a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan yesterday, alleging that she capitalised on his disability to cheat on him.

Bamimore said he had once caught Mary in a compromising position with another man. He said: “I have forgiven Mary’s adulterous behaviour before. I can no longer tolerate it because I am a pastor and for the sake of my wellbeing.

“On a number of occasions, Mary has hidden under the guise of going to our senior pastor’s home to assist him fetch water and wash his clothes. In the pastor’s home one day, I met both of them in a compromising position and my initial fear was confirmed.”

Mary, who now lives in Oyo Town, denied the allegations but gave her consent for divorce. She told the court that her greatest mistake in life was her decision to marry Bamimore, in spite of her parents’ warning.

“I am not an adulterer, I have lived with Bamimore with all sincerity and honesty. The cleric he referred to as my lover is a real man of God. In fact, he usually gives my husband money to feed his family. It is true that I usually assist the man’s family with their chores. It has become my husband’s way of life to accuse me of adultery and embarrass me in public, stripping me naked and inflicting injuries on me,” she said.

President of the court, Ademola Odunade, after hearing the testimonies, ordered them to produce more evidence to support their arguments. Odunade said Bamimore was not being fair to his wife. The case was then adjourned till October 30 for continuation of hearing.

Canadian PM Justin Trudeau: dissolves parliament, announces date for new election

Nollywood actress, Lizzy Anjorin, has advised men to marry women who like money to prevent dying poor.

The Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye has reacted to the Kogi State National Assembly/State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal’s nullification of his victory at the senatorial poll.


But the APC candidate, Sam Adeyemi went on to challenge Melaye’s election on three grounds of irregularities, over voting and non compliance with the electoral act.

On Friday, a three-man panel led by Justice A. O. Chijioke, in a unanimous judgment, accepted Adeyemi’s ground and ordered for a fresh election in the senatorial district.

Reacting on Twitter, Melaye said he would get judgement at the Appeal court.


He wrote, ”On Tribunal judgement. No cause for alarm at all. Even if it went my way they will still go to the Appeal Court. Our mandate can not be taken. We will get judgment at the Appeal Court.

”There will be fresh election in Kogi West because I will be Governor. For my Senate mandate no shaking.”.

A 46-year-old Nigerian man, Obinna Stanley Ayanele, has been killed in South Africa.



A statement released by the president of the Nigeria Union South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, says Ayanele who hails from Uruala, Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, was murdered in cold blood by some criminals in his shop in Krugersdorp, Johannesburg, on Tuesday evening August 20th. The armed robbers attacked the deceased with the intention of stealing his money and items.



“With deep sorrow in our hearts, the Nigeria Union South Africa regrets to announce the gruesome murder of another Nigerian, the late Stanley Ayanele from Uruala, Ideato North LGA, Imo, aged 46. Until his death, he was a small scale business owner, a stockist of petty goods.

Ayanele was accosted by some criminals at his shop in Krugersdorp, Johannesburg in the evening of August 20, 2019 with the intention of robbing him of his money and wares. In the process, he was murdered in cold blood. He was brutally stabbed severally, and they smashed his head with a hammer thereby leaving him in a pool of his blood to bleed to death,’’ Olubajo said



Olubajo said two of the criminals who attacked Ayanele have been arrested by the South Africa Police Service, Krugersdorp Cluster Station.
