There existed two powerful groups of thought about what the Language of African Literature would look like:The Indiginist essentialist and Indiginist Hybridity.

The former led by Frantz Fanon advocates for the total use of local languages in African Literature while the latter led by Chinua Achebe opposes it on the ground that English /French as second languages have international intelligibility.They maintain that the foreign languages should be used with african experiences.
