Home News Matawalle to establish N400m NOUN Study Centre in Zamfara, to sponsor 200 students by MARYAM HASSAN August 13, 2020 Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara tiamin rice Governor Bello Matawalle of Zamfara State has directed for the construction of N400million National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, Study Center in Gusau, the state capital. Mr Matawalle, who gave the directive on Thursday when he paid a working visit to the National Headquarters of the University in Abuja, also pledged to sponsor an initial 200 students into the institution. The governor said his decision to take this bold step was born out of his desire to fast track the development of education in the state, pointing out that his administration was committed to building a virile youth for the future of the state. “I am convinced that NOUN is the right institution to assist in that direction because it is not hindered by bottlenecks peculiar to tertiary education system in this country,” Mr Matawalle observed. According to him, his administration’s commitment towards transforming the educational sector in the state informed the allocation of the highest fund to the sector in the 2020 appropriation Bill. Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdalla Uba Adamu, said the University’s programs are fully online – from the admission process, registration study to even the conduct of examinations. “Your Excellency, as at today, we have completed our first semester examination despite lock down arising from the pandemic of COVID-19. This is because the bulk of our business is conducted online,” Mr Uba-Adamu said. While stressing that human capital development was important for development of the North Mr Uba-Adamu appealed to Northern governors and stakeholders to sponsor students to the University. “As at today, the whole of the three geopolitical zones on the Northern hemisphere of the country have only 17,000 students compared to South Western state which, alone, has 37,000 students. “Of the over 400 lecturers we interviewed for employment recently, only nine applied from the North,” the V-C lamented. He, therefore, commended Mr Matawalle for being the only governor who personally visited the University. https://dailynigerian.com/matawalle-to-establish-n400m-noun-study-centre-in-zamfara-to-sponsor-200-students/ |

The Muslim Youth Foundation of Southern Kaduna (MYFOSKA) at the weekend alleged series of isolated killings of their members who are either on transit or in the process of carrying out their legitimate business in parts of Southern Kaduna. Daily Trust reports that parts of southern Kaduna have been enmeshed in killings by gunmen as well as attacks and counter-attacks between farmers and Fulani herders. The latest attack on Zikpak led to the killing of nine people in Jema’a local government. However, a statement issued by MYFOSKA and signed by its National Chairman, Mohammed Kabir Bello, stated that Muslims have found themselves in the middle of a guerrilla attack and silent killings in different parts of Southern Kaduna. “Whenever there is a rumour of any form of attack in the area, the Muslims become victims, roadblocks will be mounted and any Muslim on transit will be killed,” he said. The group said five people were ambushed and killed in July including the former Secretary to the District Head of Dangoma, Sallau Musa, who was killed while on his way from Kafanchan to Dangoma on July 22, 2020. “This brings the total number of more than 100 people killed while on transit since 2016,” the group said. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/muslims-raise-alarm-on-killings-at-roadblocks-in-southern-kaduna.html/amp
