amnotapervert: Your aunt inviting you to Canada is good, but in my opinion, it will not really help your case because your aunt likely doesn’t share the same surname as you and she’s not a direct family member like a parent or sibling. So, even if she has $20,000 USD or $20 million, it doesn’t make much difference — in fact, it can make it look like you’re coming with the intention to seek asylum.
IRCC evaluates each applicant individually, based on their own situation. Let me explain how IRCC thinks:
1. Identity & Background You’re applying with a Nigerian passport, which unfortunately faces a higher chance of rejection by default. Someone from countries like Botswana, Cape Verde, or even the Central African Republic might have a slightly better approval rate by comparison.
2. Financial Capacity (Proof of Funds / Income Stability) They’ll check if you truly have the money you claim and whether it aligns with your personal income and occupation. The key question is can you afford the trip on your own? This helps them determine if you’re less likely to seek asylum once in Canada.
3. Education, Work Experience, and Skills What do you do for a living? Does your job and income make sense for someone applying for a Canadian trip or visit?
4. Genuineness of Relationships (for family or spousal cases) They’ll assess how genuine your relationship with your aunt is. Since she’s not an immediate family member, that may not carry much weight. They’ll also consider whether you have strong family ties—like a spouse or children—that would make you likely to return home.
5. Intent and Purpose This is where many people fail, especially if their finances don’t support their stated purpose. IRCC checks if your intentions match your visa type: Visitor Visa: Will you return home after your visit? Study Permit: Are you a genuine student with a clear educational plan? Work Permit: Is the job offer genuine? Permanent Residence: Do you plan to settle and contribute long-term?
They look for consistency between what you say and what your documents show. and they very very very good at what they do
In my opinion, Stage 2 (Financial Capacity) and Stage 5 (Intent & Purpose) are the most critical—and where most rejections happen.
So, in your case, IRCC will assess you individually. Yes, your aunt can send an invitation, but you must show your own proof of funds (POF) to strengthen your application.
And as for proof of family ties through traditional marriage — do you have pictures, or do you have a child together? Does your local government have any record?
It’s very hard to prove a traditional marriage without a court wedding in Nigeria, because that usually involves a lot of paperwork. For example, you and your spouse can swear a joint affidavit before a notary public or commissioner of oaths — you can get a lawyer to help you with that.
but IMO its a waste of time as IRCC will not take it serious as proof of family tie as traditional marriage certificate will not be taken seriosuly should I do court marriage certificate, about financial capability I am self employed and my job na mostly cash and sometimes it people wan send money they send to my sellers there and I ask them to buy more goods... |

amnotapervert: People are funny sha — they told you 6 months and you’re still negotiating.
The IMM 5885E checklist is clear: 3 months of transaction history + 6 months average balance.
Remember, you’re coming with a Nigerian passport — don’t give them more reason to deny you
The IRCC website’s “Apply for a Visitor Visa” page suggests providing at least 6 months of account details in your statements. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/apply-visitor-visa.html
Do what you want with the information please if my aunt is inviting me and she has up to 20k USD do I still need to show my own statement of account.?? Also if I am traditional married, what can I use to proof family tie as traditional marriage no dey get certificate |

Westchester: I have a question. Last year I was planning to do a Kuwait work visa when the traveling agent also gave me the option to choose Canada. He said it was a visitors/business Visa. Told me the thing has a very much high percentage of success. To cut long story short... He applied for me and I went for biometrics last year's November. Ever since then, I don't even know what my application status is. I've asked him and he said they'll send me an email if the Visa is approved but when the biometric email came, I wasn't the one that received it. He just forwarded everything to me to print out. So is it possible for me to receive email when through out the application process I didn't receive any emails directly? they have rejected you and he doesn't want to tell you. Hope he is not with your passport and the money you pay am no many |

Agboyinu1: Dr Lammy is very reliable and works with time. He even helped with superlegalisation at the embassy and all documents were returned in good condition to my address. So I had to do all I needed without leaving my house. His charges are also very affordable. It is a blessing getting his contact. you joined nairaland to post this comment and disappear its well |

Sommy48: I am new to Nairaland, I really don’t know how it works here. I am here to post an honest review on drlammy, I call him Mr. Olamide. I am a doctor, who will be going to Israel for a medical training and as part of the requirements, I am to authenticate my academic certificates and some documents at the ministry of education, MFE, and ministry of foreign affairs MFA, and then take them to the Israel embassy for notarization. I tried doing this myself but the earliest date I got online at the ministry of education was in 2months. That date was far for me. That was how I made some calls to my friends who had gone through a similar process and someone sent me Mr. Olamide’s number. I spoke to him on phone, he sounded nice but my spirit was not comfortable sending my original certificates to a stranger. I used his name to search for him on all social media platform to see that he looks like, inspector like me😂 My family members were totally against it. They filled my head with the worst possible scenarios. What if he tears my certificates? what if he misplaces it? What if he holds it hostage and starts asking for ransom? What if this? What if that? My workplace has refused to grant me leave to do this myself. I prayed about it and then had this conviction within me to send my certificates to him. Meanwhile I had already done colored photocopy of my certificates and kept it to use them as original if something happens, sister doubting Thomas like me😎 I sent them to him via DHL on a Friday evening, he received it on Tuesday morning. He told me it will take 3days to complete the process at the MFE & MFA. I called him on Friday, he said it’s still at MFA, he’ll receive it by Monday. I called him on Monday, he said the MFA didn’t work that day for some reason, that he’ll get it on Tuesday morning. My heart started racing, my family member said it oh, it has happened🙆🏽♀️ That Tuesday, he called me and told me that he has received it from MFA and would be proceeding to the embassy for the notarization. I had already given him a letter authorizing him to do the notarization for me at the embassy. The embassy called me, and rejected the documents he brought. They requested that the authentication at the MFA should be done on the photocopied documents and sent to them. I called Mr. Olamide and told him about it, he agreed without showing any form of resentment towards it. He went back to MFA, authenticated them again and then sent it back to the embassy. After some days, he was the one calling me to ask if the embassy has called me to pick up my certificates, I told him NO. He said he will go there to find out. Luckily, I got the embassy on the phone and they said they were through with it. He finished the process and sent my certificates to me even when I had not sent the delivery fee to him, he trusted that I’ll give him his money back🫣
I received my package and opened the certificates and they were all intact. He handled them well. I forgot to say that some of my certificates were laminated and he delaminated the back of it nicely without causing any harm to any of them.
The process at the MFE and MFA took 1week, it would have been less if not for the no work at MFA at some point. The process at the embassy took a week plus, it would have been less if not for the fact that he had to go back to the MFA to authenticate the photocopied document.
I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to authenticate their certificates and the MFE and MFA. From my experience with him, I’ll say he’s calm, polite, collected, speaks nicely, and above all knows what he is doing. His price is good too. No family member staying in Abuja would have done this for me, the way he did it. He saved me from a bunch of stress! Smells like a fish, doctor never post since 2023.., Beware of giving your documents to people oh |

freedomtours: Legalization takes 3-6 weeks to be ready if followed up through NUC, I have handled one that took only 3 weeks to be ready for embassylegalisation, it got back to embassy within 3 weeks after submitting to the NUC for verification. If you can work on fastrack appointment date for submission, you will still meet up, alternatively find out if your sch accept notarized copy, just like other schs do then you can do notary public and use it get admission and legalise later, i did it for someone and many did that also, they got admission with it, so find out if your sch will accept it, as most do then you can do that likewise. But make sure you authenticate your certificate first at moe&mofa and the public notary will be on a certify true cope not on the original certificate. The issues between VFS and embassy will be over soon and embassy has been working since then, that is not affecting their operations. please how can I notarise my documents, I have booked for legalization at the embassy but it will take time before it is received as my school's deadline is 28th |
