The DSS

The DSS is the only intelligent driven unit in Nigeria. No wonder they have earned the respect of all and sundry , including thier own counterpart in the security niche .

The work covertly , whilst recording tremendous success without so much noise or social media jambore.
They are not in our faces daily , but they move mountains in silence.

Without fear of contradiction, I can tell you for free that an average DSS operative is more intel than a high ranking police officer and even a military officer .

Aside the intelligence driven eptieth of this unit , you will also agree with me that they are quite refined and highly professional.

In my life as a Nigerian I have seen a lot .

I have seen Army and police operatives exchanging punches countless times while in uniform .

I have seen police and customs fight dirty
I have seen army and Lastma in Lagos fight till they almost lost breath
I have seen army brutalize innocent Nigerian at the slightest opportunity
I have seen human right abuse , extrajudicial killing by the police .
I have seen Efcc run after yahoo boys with its red vest in the market square .

I haven’t seen DSS get involve in any muddy street fight. Not for once.

These days , they even go to court to get interpretation of some laws before making an arrest . What a reformed unit !

I have known peter now for over a decade. The rest of us amongst his pool of friends womanize a lot , but Peter. He is a straightforward, loyal and steadfast handsome guy to the core. I was working at an organization for over 7 years, as a customer service agent , before I ascended the ladder as a manager. I was pathetically underpaid. My time was siphoned away just the way a thirsty camel does when it sees water. I wasn’t growing Carrer wise, If you say I was stagnant, yes you are right.

There was only one thing I could boast of in the past 7 years of working  — - paying bills only and living from pay check to paycheck.

The brilliant chap everyone knew me as, is now stuck in a dead end job. I was physically, emotionally, mentally worn out. I literally just snug through each day like a sick snail.
I knew I was in a cage, but how do I get out was another kettle of fish . When I get out what will I be doing ? How will I pay bills, where do I go from here ? These platitudes stand individually like a 7 headed beast and giants before me whenever the thought of quitting sniffs the farthest perimeter of my mind .

I made several attempts . I gave myself countless deadlines. But the fear of the unknown was a force that neutralizes my resolve whenever I try again, like a kid learning to walk . I quickly ran back to my safe place. It’s hopeless and depressing but at least it pays my bills.

Time kept ticking, my life kept melting away right before my own eyes. The earth kept rotating on its axis non-stop and yet my vibrant youthfulness kept vaporizing on a job I saw no future in.

The day my life took a new turn was feb 21st. A day that started like every other day but ended in total calamity, if I call it a holocaust , I am not exaggerating.

I was wrongly accused at work,only to be declared innocent by the police upon thorough investigation concerning finance. Although I got released same day, but I knew the moment it started that I knew that God himself had come to my rescue eventually, to uproot me with force from my bondage .

While others kept sympathizing with me , and asking me to return , I saw peace , tranquility and I could see my inner Bird flying out of the cage singing freedom at last !

Finally ! I am out ! I said to myself . The courage to soilder on , into a world of uncertainty was second to none. I vowed not to look back like Lot and his wife. I marched on into an unknown world, I left without looking back —  I resigned .

Immediately, just like a vivid trance , I knew my time has come to take the mantle of my life again and sail to where I want to be .

I woke up the next day feeling refreshed like a new born , peace was radiating all over me . I murmured to myself, the time is here .

I picked up my pieces, cleaned my mat and carried it just as Jesus commanded the lame man . I have never been happier.

Now I can do all the things I have long kept at the backseat .
1 ✅I now hit the gym regularly—- now I look healthier and more fit .
2✅ I eat better  — - no more office junks

3✅. I now picked up two very high paying skills and mastering them . I can code now ! Something I had no iota of idea about before the event .
4✅ I now do my favorite side hustle which is writing
5✅ I have read more books than I did in the last 2 years

I keep acquiring skills and getting myself ready for the bigger stage in my career when the opportunity shows up.

In conclusion, I am grateful to God for the opportunity I had to serve there, it was all lessons of life . I met some great people and made some great friends.
