Mayflowa:
You seem to misquote Dmainman out of order. I am the last person to be bigoted. I acknowledge all tribes got intelligence. I have been classmate with genius northerners. He was a crazy mathematician.

But as regards PRESSID scholarship, the examination was only written by first class students in all universities in Nigeria. The exam was conducted by National University Commission (NUC) and candidates selected by NUC to produce the next generation scientific genius who can only attend the first 20 global universities in the world. Now, this is the only examination that has nothing to do with Federal Character Commission. The Jonathan Government only wanted the most qualified candidates by way of exam regardless of wherever state of federation they were coming from.

I think for 3 years in the conduct of the examination, less than 5 percent where coming out from the Northern extraction and that angered many northern leaders and group including northern law makers who pushed for the cancellation of PRESSID when Buhari got in so much so that the last winners were never sponsored.

Now there is an explanation to the few number of Northerners in the list: I noticed in there are relatively fewer applications from the north in this type of scholarship examinations. If there are 2000 applications from the south for instant, there would be 200 applications from the north. Maybe because northern like to stay and work in Nigeria or general lack of awareness. So it shouldn't be any surprise if 200 people are eventually selected, only 10 comes from north. They aren't dull but the probability is low because of the number of applicants in the North. But Federal Character seeks to equalise this. They make it compulsory that equal number must come from each state or region. Such that if 100 is selected from the South with 2000 applications, 100 must be selected from the north with 200 applications! However there are merits and demerits in this thinking. Though it may limits merit, but there is happiness all over and spread of wealth amongst states forming a whole. iN FACT, a PhD thesis can be written on this rationality and philosophical thoughts behind the approach.

I noticed when I was shortlisted for PTDF MSc scholarship some 8-9 years ago, while there were many of us from the southern state like 300 names per state, states like Zamfara had only 5 names! and PTDF was to select 9 scholars from Zamfara. They eventually have to source for other four interested students to accept the scholarship.

Lastly, we know we are all intelligent but don't also forget Nigerians states have been classed into education and education less developed states. While Bayelsa, Cross rivers, Rivers and Akwa Ibom have been classed as educationally-less developed states in the South, almost all of the states in the North are classed as educationally less developed state by Nigeria education committee and up till now no northern group has disputed it because it creates some kind of favourable consideration in gaining admission through JAMB.

Mayflowa, you are an intelligent guy... These Northerners are living in denial and soon they will wake to pay these scholarships from their farm money not oil money. I can bet this wont take another 2 years. We will show them that Nigeria was not created for them.

[quote author=jsleekysleeky post=59718892]I am very disappointed in you @Dmainman, I always thought you had the capacity clear, coherent and unbigoted thinking but it appears I am wrong. Many Nigerians from the south erroneously believe that Northerners are uneducated, this is far from reality. If you have travelled around Nigeria and have interacted with graduates from the North and South, you will realize that talent and academic potential is spread across the length and breadth of Nigeria. Being a northerner does not make one dull and being a southerner does not make one sharp. Yes, there have been northerners who got the PTDF Scholarship without merit but there are also southerners who got the same PTDF scholarship without merit. I don't know why Pressid was cancelled but I believe if there was true merit in the process almost 50% of the 102 recipients would be northerners. If your position is that there was merit in the Pressid process then you should also agree that there was merit in the recent DSS recruitment exercise that yielded 51 recruits for Katsina and 5 for Akwa Ibom. The reality of Nigeria is that every ethnic group in Nigeria tries to outdo the other when someone from their group occupy any office whether in public or private sector. If a Hausa man occupies an office most of the recruits for that office would be Hausa, same thing happens if an Igbo man occupies the office. Every Nigerian is marganilized and no Nigerian is marginalized. This is the reason for over 50 years of Royal Dutch Shell's operations in Nigeria no northerner has made director or even manager. It is the reason why for over 50 years the Igbo produced a Chief of Army Staff just once.

If we want to build a new and better Nigeria, we must move away from painting one group as culprit in our collective failure. We must admit how we have wrong one another and collectively resolved to change our ways.[/quote

MY FRIEND GO AND SIT DOWN, NORTHERNERS ARE THIEVES AND THEY ARE THE REASON THE COUNTRY IS WERE IT IS. ABACHA, IBB, ATIKU, DANJUMA NAME THEM WHERE DID THEY GET ALL THEIR BILLIONS FROM? it's clear that u don't understand the PTDF scholarship. U're sounding asif the govt is awarding it from their family money. It's their social responsibility, something that must be done and not if they feel like. They hv no right to also withhold the list till now, it's vey ridiculous. Besides, many schls don't hv January programmes, like UK schls.

If pple complain that their names ddnt apear on d list due to manipulations, well that's a fact. Even if 100 pple complain, and at least 1 out of d 100 is a victim, den its a valid argument. Besides, if this scholarship scheme were to be transparent, we would have more than 5/6 from each state like it used to be b4 they started with the special list. it used to be 13 and 9 for ND states and other states respectively, where do u think d remainder of d 5/6 per state goes to? they are d special candidates on d other list, which is d biggest problem of this scholarship. So let pple complain.

It makes me sick wen youths try to rationalize d ills of d govt.
Thanks and God bless you, these idiots here are busy defending PTDF thinking there is transparency anywhere. I guess they think it's foreigners running the scholarship scheme rather than Nigerians.

See the kind of English the come here to type, says it all. How they got through school is a question for another.
This generation of Nigerians are gullible to the core, how would anyone with his or her right senses believe this process is transparent. How could people think that this scholarship is a favor, especially to us from Oil producing communities.
Make una no worry soon we will stop the Nigerian state from getting this oil and I will see how these idiots will abuse me again and how PTDF will get funding.

Mr. man, did u read my post properly? did i say anything to justify PTDF's actions? I rather condemned them as u hv done, but in a different style.

Point of correction- a CSR isn't a favour, as ur post suggests, but a responsibility, which makes it our right, that's why i said they must consider us for that reason.

Do you need angels to tell you that there is no single organization in this country that isn't corrupt?
Someone puts up a valid information on an issue that could help shape narrative and engagement of PTDF the least some illinformed ones can do is shut him down. Just a shame

Bro last time I checked PTDF scholarship isn't compulsory, it's 100% optional. If you didn't believe in this process why apply at all, now you are hell bent on spreading the gospel of negativity.

We know we are in Nigeria, we know what obtains but the way you are on about it is becoming too much.If you don't trust the process you never should have applied, better still if you have completely lost faith in it, then completely take your mind off it.

You know what I call your type? You are an idiot, a goat who doesn't know when he will be used for pepper soup.
Nigerians especially the young ones will tell people who point out ills in the society to leave as it is that it's not the first time it's happening.
So if it happens in DPR who says it won't happen in PTDF.
These previlaged few will keep you and your generation as slave forever.
Your fellow Nigerian points out a very strong issues that could affect you now and in the future all you can do is shut him up
EducationRe: 2017/2018 PTDF Scholarship Scheme (Overseas And Local) by Nigerdcritics(m): 5:41pm On Aug 09, 2017
This is simply Nigeria. Thousands of Nigerians sat for DPR exams a few previlged kids are picked because their family is connected.
For those still fooling themselves about the transparency of PTDF I don't envy you

So people have seen the list

Some people bought the question abi na pack them call an

Some people are saying we should pray to make the list

Some people are insiders, so much so they know the MD

Transparency of the scholarship is like -5%

Let's continue to fool ourselves. I'd be here taking notes.
PTDF IS NOT TRANSPARENT IF YOU THINK THE PROCESS IS FREE AND FAIR YOU ARE DELUDED. A LECTURER WHO WAS ON THE PANEL PROMISED ANOTHER OF MY ACQUAINT THAT HER NAME WILL BE ON THE LIST 100%

This is the problem we have in Nigeria. Someone freely posted what he heard from a friend, instead of us to ask pertinent questions, we are busy jumping on the guys throat.

If anyone on this platform still thinks that by now that the list is not ready, then that person should please wake up.
Bros abeg, if you have more info on the list, like number of OSS or LSS recipients and when this list will finally show, please share.
Also, your friend that saw his name, did he go through the process we all went through?
Thanks.
My friend who saw his name went through the but
it was just a formality for him as he was told to just go through it.
If anyone doesn't believe that the process is flawed, keep dreaming

I can say here that that the PTDF process for the merit list isn't transparent. Someone just told me his name is on the list and he has started preparation to travel. This information is very very true.
