AgricultureRe: Diary Of A Pig Farmer by Nigerfine3: 8:54pm On Jun 10, 2025
KillaBeans:
thanks a lot for this. Where in 2025 and your diary since 2021 is still helpful. I've always been interested in pig farming and I finally started February 2025. I bought 2 female pure large whites and a male. Sadly I lost the male a month after. He stopped eating and I thought he needed deworming so I administered ivermectin injections. I returned from work and met him dead. Yes, the 2 females are doing well and very close to mating, probably by July. I've paid for a pure male large white in Ado but transporting it to Akure is another walaha. Now to my question, what's the cost of this milk?
The process of getting the milk isn't so easy from beginning, they may push you to state health agency, then back and forth. My people are trying to get through it.

If only some Africans can think beyond food and procreation.
This reforms no matter how successful will still not help some people just because of their mindset.
Provision of food in abundance is the first step towards national development.
If there is food for the people, crime reduces drastically, food is always the cheapest thing in developed nations

Fake made-up statistics. The TVs in Lagos are more than the whole of the SE.
This is a rubbish made-up statistics that lack basic common sense.

Let DSTV show the number os subscription in each region. That alone will give you and insight. I bet Lagos alone has more than the whole SE combined.
You maths assumption is wrong, percentage is different from total population of a thing.
They are talking about percentage

Hope no be gaslighting o.

The military is stretched, how many farmers can dey protect?

And why can't South plant their own food and feed herself, why all these dependency on d north?
We kind of fool ourselves if we say south doesn't farm,if you know the amount of farm activities in oyo state, ( I farm in iseyin), you will not believe it. Ekiti farms rice, ebonyi farms rice, cross river rice and cassava, these are places I am certain of.

chiommy123:
i planted it on heaps. I need to know why this happened to prevent it from happening again and pls when is the best time to plant another one?
The next planting season is march to may,we did egusi in a large scale ones in oyo state. The following year( this year), we didn't want to plant it again. We were successful but the labour for harvesting and processing was a bit much since they don't know much about it. It was so time consuming.
AgricultureRe: Remedy For My Farm by Nigerfine3: 11:44pm On Jul 16, 2024
The rain is much now to plant egusi, this might not do well

FoodRe: Nairalanders, Are You Still Eating Beans?? by Nigerfine3: 10:11pm On Jul 16, 2024
Remman:
I buy the flour in a bottled container, then add two spoons to rice. It contains high amount of protein. If you want to cook beans to have the full taste of beans, then go for beans but if you're only concerned about balancing your diet, then to cut cost, just go for soya bean flour and use it as spice. You can also add it to raw garri when making garri for soup, it will change the colour of the garri as you use it to eat your soup. The most important thing is, you'll get protein than as the usual beans using soya bean flour.
Just look at food mathematics Nigerians have resulted to just because of bad leaders.
I miss the military leaders. Nigerian politicians have killed nigeria patapata( kpatakpata)

AgricultureRe: Farmers, How Are You Selling Your Maize? by Nigerfine3: 2:18am On Jul 11, 2024
Ayemileto:
I'm a first time maize farmer, and my maize farm is finally ready for Harvesting. Someone brought in some market women to harvest and buy today.

The rate at which this women purchased is so ridiculous that if I continue selling like this, I won't make what I spent on the project back, not to talk of profit.

It was actually painful because I didn't discuss price with them before they started harvesting, as I assumed the person who brought them already did the discussion, only for this women to come up with a ridiculous rate after harvesting. They claim there's now excess maize in the market.

Another buyer someone called for me offer even worse prices.

It appears they have a maize seller association, where they fix their buying prices.

I'm currently considering harvesting and taking to the market myself, because I'm sure I should be able to sell at X2 of their buying prices (their buying prices is currently between 40 - 55 Naira per Maize on Average, and I think I should be able to sell at 100 - 120 Naira per Maize at the market)

I can't leave the maize to dry because of the rate of rainfall we're currently experiencing.

Any Clue from experienced farmers?
The rain will not stop the maize from drying if it is still not harvested. Selling after drying and shelling is the better option

[quote author=Kobojunkie post=130691617]Where? When? Any link to the story or where exactly it supposedly happened? undecided

Many pesticides are equally poisonous to cattle. Have you equally heard tales of herders going back to kill farmers who use pesticides on their farms? undecided[/quote

I think most animals would walk away from plants that are not good for them, I mean the cows would be repelled.
AgricultureRe: About To Get Farmland For Farming by Nigerfine3: 11:11pm On Jun 27, 2024
Kobojunkie:
Farmers need to take a more meaningful approach to protecting their lives and livelihoods. https://x.com/i/status/1805170612219826525
▶ Plant weeds that are known to be poisonous to cattle(about 1 meter in width) all around the edge of your farm(length and breadth). Tell farmers in your communities to do the same. This way you all can create a no-cattle zone around your farms.
▶ Spread rumors throughout your local area of how weeds poisonous to livestock have been intentionally planted all around the area to deter cattle from eating up crops on farms. The information will help local livestock farmers protect their animals while also spreading the word about the danger the area poses to herders bringing cattle to forage in the area.
▶ Consider raising awareness in your communities of how they must boycott cattle and beef from these herders who don't seem to value their lives and livelihoods. A boycott will further deter herders from visiting the area altogether.
▶ Always document any issues and encounters with herders and their cattle. Collect video evidence, images of the suspected herders, and sample evidence. Post information on each encounter online. Additionally, distribute it to warn farmers all around your communities and area.
