Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by imomoh24(m): 2:34pm On Jul 17, 2006
Was thinking if we cld all put our heads together to write a poem.to make it as long as possible.
it has to make sense though, and make i rhyme.
If u have to start a new rhyme, add the next line.
most importantly,it has to be relevant to the topic.

I'll suggest a topic that every Nigerian can relate to. "Leaders we have, leaders we want, "

Start,

We all look to God to give us leaders we want
forgetting we did so before, but it all came to not.
Leaders we have are leaders we deserve,
Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by Seun(m): 11:03am On Sep 09, 2006
Any takers?
Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by leketoye(m): 11:38am On Sep 09, 2006
Bad start. want, not, deserve are not very good rhymes to me. Guess we won't get anywhere with this. It's a failed project.
Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by gwatala(m): 11:38pm On Sep 09, 2006
What do you mean Seun, I don't think my eyes make jest.
I posted my lines here yesterday, at the Poser's request
So what happened? Is it a knock on my/our scoff
of the idiotic topic that you would deign to take it off

I still don't think you got a right topic for this project
Maybe if you suggest another, we can see better prospect.
Don't just take off all you do not like, talk's free, no?
The fun is really in the talking, not just blind follow follow.

Let's rhyme. Let's put our words to use. Let's flow
But don't let's begin with topics that're way too s/low.
"The leaders we deserve", was that what he said we'd send?
Ptuah. We'll never get them anyway so why pretend.

Abeg talk something better o jare, well I won't suggest.
It's yours to do, we'll just write, or we'll just protest.

We all look to God to give us leaders we want
forgetting we did so before, but it all came to not.
leaders we have are leaders we deserve,
they pull of an air of grandeur, they flaunt
a mansion, butlers, diamonds on their (wo)men, a yacht,
all for them, that is what we preserve.

Should God take away our self-determination,
lead us to the leaders we desire but won’t aspire?
Look at each other, the world is ours to form.
Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by teno(f): 12:44pm On Sep 21, 2006
this poem's got a bad start.topic is great tho and anything worth doing is worth doing well,so
isuggest we start all over with a R.E.A.L.rhyme.

leaders we need
if we'll but agree
that to lead exceed
the want of greed

it's all so plain
that greed is the chain
that all but reigns
in our leaders veins
so leaders we have but leaders we want
Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by mukina2: 12:50pm On Sep 21, 2006
leaders who reap off our benefits
leaders who leave off our sweat
leaders who disgrace nationality
leaders who have no patriotism
Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by teno(f): 1:57pm On Sep 21, 2006
that's great mukina,

if they'll but leaders be fit
then they will the pace set
in the way of morality
for a greater sense of nationalism
so leaders we have but leaders we want
Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by mukina2: 2:10pm On Sep 21, 2006
leaders who are a disgrace to great mama africa
leaders who lie every time they open their mouths
polithievies and liars majoring in raping mama
leaders we want but leaders we will never have
Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by somegirl(f): 2:49pm On Sep 21, 2006
TO EACH LEADER
(reim dich oder ich fress dich!  grin)

   AND TO YOU

   indeed!
   we will bleed,
   if greed
   does lead.

   with speed,
   its seed
   will succeed
   if we cede.

   don’t heed
  its plead;
   there’s no need
   for this weed.

   we’d
   be freed
   if we did impede
   its misdeed.

And for each lost word, each vain spat in lure
for our well deserved voice will not again go
unclaimed, unasked for, ignored - that for sure.
We now see clear. And we will never stay low.

No more, no more. Yes, no more.
Give us leaders, but not like we had before.

feeding us propanganda
subjecting us to poverty
turning us into iilegal immigrants
destroyin our land
oh mama !
leaders we need but leaders we will never have
Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by nanaboi(m): 4:12pm On Sep 22, 2006
I could swear I had a rhyme here someday
Where is it now?
Anyway,

Our land is a LovePeddler
steady switching beds.

"What she needs" they conjecture,
"is a good head"

But she needs much more -
good heads to bear the head.

She had one once, yet she got him sore
He lasted 7 months and he was no more

If she were to have just one more
she only but looks back in looking forward

So from today onward
Let her stare reality in her callous face:

She cannot afford a good head
For a good head sits on heads

She has no heads to bear up a good head.

we're doing great, but enough of the negative side of the'' leaders we do have''and concentrate on the qualities of the ''leaders we do want''
leaders we want, leaders we need
whose desire to rule supercedes
the want of greed but leads
in deeds of noble breed

hey guys, took time out to compile what we've written so far with some slight variations and additions.what do you think about it? any more additions?

                                      leaders we need
                                      if we'll but agree

                                      they've signed a pact
                                      with so little impact
SHAME! is the word to describe our leaders

our street with houses not shasm
our presence with respect not suspect
our lives with comfort not murmur
our hearts with pride not spite

                                      leaderswho are no pliant slaves

I love the rhymes of many of you not going to call names. Many of you really have talent!

TO EACH LEADER

indeed!
we will bleed,
if greed
does lead.

with speed,
its seed
will succeed
if we cede.

be freed
if we did impede
its misdeed.

I started this topic as a way to express my feelings on the way this country is being run,
its good to know others feel the same too

a lot of the poems here are so good,if not for the msg they express, they can be used in any poetic competition.

but u and i know, wat the leaders we have will feel about that, because,

leaders we have,sweat and strive
to make sure their regimes survive.
they'll intimidate,harass and incarcarate,
till all opposition capitulate.

with one view point and one only,
oppossing will be a folly.
EFCC,ICPC potent tools with which
opponent are stifled and some even impeached.

draconian laws meant to subjugate the masses,
cause soldiers they are,but without khakis.
public funds stolen and invested in private ventures,
wat the future hold for us,we are not sure.

now 2007 is here, where will they take us next,
they'll kepp things as they are at best.
so i'll just sit at home and bend my head in shame,
cos i know, come 2007,it'll just be more of thesame.

at last!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. where have u been?i was beginning to think we"ll wrap it up w't out a single contribution from u imomoh.u'r rhyme is good too!thanks for the thumbs up. but then even if they don't like it .i am determined to make it public so all nigerians should see it. any suggestions? maybe we should send it to newspaper house. but then they might never publish it.
Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by imomoh24(m): 11:43pm On Nov 03, 2006
sup Teno

been down with pneumonia.dat explains d absence.
trying to take the msg out, hmmm
i'll be careful if i were u though.
newspapers will want money before they'll publish, thats why i dont believe anything i read in them
only sure truth in papers are adverts, comon they are an extention of the system which we are talking about.
so i'm not suprised.

let me step aside a little for others to contribute.

cheers

Re: Can You Put In The Next Line To Rhyme? by imomoh24(m): 11:58pm On Nov 06, 2006
yeah we should, guess we should not underestimate the nairaland audience.

walking around everyday as if in a daze,
submitting to the antics of our leaders.
with 2007 around d corner, here comes the next phase.

possible culpability can we be accused of,
accept things as they are regardless of what,
guess of this suffering, we can't get enough.

Teno take over let's see how far we can take this

Travo Teno.
was wondering if u had deserted us,
guess ur game just gets tighter with every poem.
like ur passion and enthusiasm.

Only wish we had more of ur type around,
things would hv been a bit better.

whether we despise
their lies
their game
wont change

their excuses may be lame,
having no shame.
they are still the same,
trying to elongate their reign.

wish they'll strive for greatness,
only then will they steal less.
and worry more,
for what they'll be remembered for.

be that as it may,
I'll suffice to say,
that if we stand up and say nay,
it'll be difficult for them to stay.

IMHO, the best verse came from nanaboi.

But then, a quick spit. . .

Good leaders? Street dreams, street~dreams!,
with the masses like street urchins, to feed we lick~bins,
while they floss in 26 inch~rims,
as a common man, always had dreams of making it big in Vegas,
then i woke up and suddenly realised my ass was still Lagos,
hustling. . .bustling,
flies off my body i be tossing~ 'em,
sweat pours down in bullets,
toiling while see that politician livin' life to the fullest,
we all wish for what's supposed~to~be,
but reality contrasts my thinking, so it's opposed~to~me,
like a class of dullards, we live in failed promises,
strivin' to make a living, delayed promises,
but when the night's done,
the morning comes,
cos even the Moon has to step down for the Sun!,

i pack more rounds of heat than a Smith 'n' Wesson,
life in Naija, we toil and sweat acids,
a politician's sh*t talk's much, but the looting's ever massive,
from the military, with rogues disguising with tha shirt o' a Colonel,
the flames ne'er burning, no light at the end of the tunnel,
Work~in, Slave~out,
Opression drummed~in, Submission came~out,
if we live for today, n tomorrow we cry,
then why crack a smile today, if we livin' to die?,
but i keep my hopes up in Christ Jesus,
believe him not, but He believes us,
from the streets of L.A.G,
it's the G-man, spittin' words that'd in turn elevate me,
