@lyn, u need to acquire a license to b able to use the application, pls i guess u ready to burn some data via Gprs/edge/3G . .

wel cant anytin for now til i get me a GPS-enabled fone^{(probably E72 )}

ive tried it, streets are incomplete. you need to downlaod the Map 3.0 app, then go to Nokia website to download Nokia Map Loader, download Naija maps. the app on the phone will prompt you for the licence which you get as a free trial.

data traffic is the same as using Map 1.0.

mapping naija is difficult. the bureau of lands and survey does not have comprehensive street maps of naija especially in pedestrian format, no places of interest etc and very poor zoning plans. you can have maps of central abuja and the better parts of lagos but thats where the buck stops.

nokia is expected to whip up its maps all by itself; wots the incentive?

I agree. Mapping streets in Naija is difficult due to complete lack of data. Just for kicks, I fired up google maps on my mobile when I was there 2 weeks ago. It only showed the major streets. Agege Motor road, etc. I was based in Ogba. There was absolutely no street information, so kind of hard to determine the accuracy of the "My Location" feature when I tried it.

when map is kind of bleeped when i tried to search for some location in my area in benin it show sometime more than 1 location for the same name for example oba market, ring road- benin it also showed somw location to be further north than others when in reality the reverse is the case.
well i guess that is because they allow for third party editing as you can add a location by your self and when other search they would be able to see that location

I've been using google maps for a while now. Though its not that comprehensive, but most of the roads had their major names. At least 70% naming.
