this is the new dental hospital, and the niger hospital below, both of which are secondary health centres, and of course the new primary schools of which there are currently 15 per LGA(expectin another 500), i kid u not, i have personally counted them and some come complete with bball courts and race tracks, internet access and play grounds that ll make private schools green with envy,

mama gee sorry but u really made no sense with your statement above. . .

anyway, fashola, amaechi, imoke(cross river),akpabio(akwa-ibom),oshomole,saraki seem to be holding it down for naija. . .in good governance

although 6 out of 36 is still a poor batting average

What the frell does your comment even mean in this? If you have nothing significant to add to the THREAD but would choose instead to ATTACK THOSE WHO DO NOT SEE THINGS AS YOU DO, how about you SHUT THE FRELL UP this NEW YEAR!!!

Jeezzz!!! The dude expressed his view of what he sees and you jump into ATTACK MODE as if your comment ought to matter more than anyone elses in this. And I sought of expect you to come back with some sorry retort to either excuse your comment or your existence.

prove me right, will you?

i wonder how you think you are enhancing the process of exchange of ideas and opinions by such barbaric attacks.
back to the topic, littering the state with buildings all in the name of development (a disguise for job for the boys) is not the paramount matter.the more important matter is maintenance, equipment and motivating the staff that are meant to man these health centers.
Last year most primary health centers in the state were manned by NYSC doctors.these doctors were not paid their allowance(not the NYSC 9,500) for 12 months.infact they were only paid two days before passing out.
The NYSC doctors just abandoned their duty post for private practice.
how does fine building solve these and similar problems?

on another note, i hope these developmental projects are integrated? Not just scattered projects that do not serve the same process.
the summary of my post is that there is more to this business of development than just putting blocks together and coating buildings with paint.
the fact that we are saddled with ineptitude those not mean that we should be swayed by mediocrity.
In Nigeria, he who is able to work the media most, wins(Thisday awards is proof to that fact).
That is why i am unwilling to join the bandwagon.

I think Amaechi should be doing more for Port Harcourt and Rivers state in general. Though I haven't seen too many recent pictures of Rivers or PH, I think he needs to do more to speed up the growth of Port Harcourt.

Rivers State gets one of the largest chunks of the oil revenue once it has been distributed to the states and it seems like much isn't being done with it. If PH was on the same growth curve as Lagos it would help to decongest Lagos and also provide Nigeria with another strong city on the coast. So until Amaechi embarks on some ambitious projects and delivers I won't be too impressed.

I can't believe that Amaechi would even say that it would take 50 years for the new PH city to be complete. If a governor is thinking that way then that means that he is not looking to fastrack the city's growth.

Let's not forget that PH is the oil capital of Nigeria, so it has the ability to close the gap between it and Lagos in terms of infrastructure, non-oil related investments, commerce, etc,

Amaechi, please step it up!!

The guy may be new or has only posted some few threads but that doesn't prevent him from expressing his views. That is what Nairaland is designed to be - a forum for differing opinions. Do you want to tell me the cubicles with green roofs above are all he could boast about

for those of you expecting to see skyscrapers,u ll be sorely dissappointed, PH is currently undergoin a revolution in education and health , teachers are being retrained in conjunction with the british council, the state has employed 200 docs to man these health centres, more are to be employed, as i type this, the BMH has been reequipped, with machines you cant find at the UPTH.it is currently one of the best state owned hospitals in the federation.heart surgeries will soon kick off there, if these are not people oriented projects ,what is
Frankly,i am not impressed in the area of roads, even at that, the new rumuola road is a race course(and i mean that literarily), the agip flyover is on course, tam-david west/east west loop flyover will almost be complete by the end of this year(i should know, i drive through every day on my way to work), ikwerre road is currently being relit, hes remo

Mbubela, How come you are so negative in you views about something that is obviously a positive.
A governor has choosen to build loads of hospitals and schools and you are here speaking in the negative. I don't get it. What do you guys want??
How come its easier for you to worship Fashola's gardening project in Lagos than for you to appreciate Amaechi's building of hospitals and schools??
My opinion?? You've got a feudalist outlook!! In your mind, it is practically impossible 4 a Niger Delta Governor to have performances anywhere near that of Fashola.

I think investment in Health and Education is the best thing any state can engage in. This is good. It would stimulate similar efforts in other competing states.

the odili solar powered lights along ikwerre road are being removed and the original street lights coming back to be powered by generators, firstbank-rumuomasi-old aba road,slaughter/oginigba are being dualised,

I am not particularly negative and neither am i comparing him to Fashola.
As a matter of fact, i think that Fashola is not being held up to enough scrutiny by the press and his admirers and i also suspect his developmental efforts might be concentrated in elitist areas and on the elites.i am still waiting to see what he is doing about the menance of area boys that is a nightmare for the working class and the poor.Go through my posts, i have never been a sycophant of Fashola and never will be.

On the Amaechi issue, the quality of some of these jobs are seriously suspect, especially the road projects.
i see no way that my request for maintenance of equipment and manpower for these fancy buildings is being negative.
i gave a good example of demoralized and unmotivated workforce that made the health cares almost irrelevant last year irrespective of the fine buildings.
In addition, i simply called for a cohesion in the developmental plans.
nothing negative.
Re: Amaechis Port Harcourt! by phantom(m): 6:52pm On Jan 03, 2010
@mbulela, i understand your point, like i said earlier i am not too impressed with the roads.progress on some roads are really slow, qualitywell i used to feel it was being compromised but with the new rumuola road, i am really impressed, infact will get you pictures soon.
The truth is 90% of the nigerian press is located in lagos, fashola is well publicised but i can assure you there are things ull see in PH and ull be shocked at the rapid infrastructural change, the eliozu flyover is done, the notorious eleme junction has a beautiful interchange now thanks to amaechis continuity
The federal govt needs to come do the east-west road, and PH would have moved up a bit,
Amaechi might be corrupt o!!!but at least he works.lets forget all these magic governors on paper, come to PH!!
