Yar’Adua: Army pledges loyalty to Jonathan
By AGENCY REPORTER, Published: Sunday, 28 Feb 2010

The Nigerian Army has restated its loyalty to the Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan, as it on Saturday distanced itself from a statement allegedly made by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. AB Dambazau, where the army Chief was said to have stated that he was only loyal to President Yar‘Adua and no one else.

Lagos State Chapter of the Action Congress Party which allegedly credited the statement to Dambazau, had condemned it warning that the Army should be held responsible if the present democracy was brought to a sad end.

But reacting, the Army said the claims in the statement were false and meant to put words in the mouth of the Army Chief.

Director of Army Public Relations, Brigadier General AC Olukolade, criticized Mr Joe Igbokwe, AC spokesman, saying he and those propagating the statement were yet to inform their audience of when, where and to whom he made the statement that they now attribute to him.

Stressing that the intention was to whip up unnecessary and dangerous sentiments, Olukolade said, “The Nigerian Army would like to reassure Nigerians that it has not shifted from its commitment to the tenets of democracy and absolute loyalty to constituted civil authorities as consistently emphasized and demonstrated by the Chief of Army Staff at several fora.”

Olukolade noted that Dambazau, the Chief of Defence Staff and other service Chiefs were among the first government functionaries to visit and pledge loyalty to the Acting President when he assumed office.

“The call and warmings coming from Mr Igbokwe and other political activists is indeed absolutely unnecessary as no coup or security breach is being contemplated by the Nigeria Army. The whole statement therefore amounts to an unfair comment founded on an imaginary stement which did not emanate from the Army leadership,” Olukolade said.

The army advised well meaning Nigerians to disregard alarmist statements from some quarters which are not meant to promote the peace and security of the country.

Dambazau and quite a few others must go.

Considering that the acting President was not informed before an armed intrusion into the country in the early hours of the morning, considering that the Commander in Chief of the armed forces did not give any order for the Military to seize the primary Airport in the capital, chase away lawful workers and guests some of them foreign Nationals and sabotage the power supply and block roads in their bid to violate the constitution and its institutions, we can record that a coup de tat actually occurred on that day but for the strong intervention of America, the status quo would have vanished into thin air. Every other event including statements thereafter was just a patch work makeover by the both sides to sheath their swords for a later time.

But what do we learn from this incident? Firstly that Nigeria remains firmly under military rule. The fallacy of military disengagement in Nigeria has been proven clearly. It was only the fear of a higher fire power of America that brought the junta back in their senses.

They haven't answered the question: Who deployed the military during the supposed arrival of Yar'Adua? Certainly it wasn't Jonathan.

That is the truthful 1 million dollars question.

ARMY PLEDGE OF LOYALTY MY FOOT. BLOODY LIARS LIKE YAR A'LIAR SHEGE, YEYE PEOPLE. The Military chiefs should be made to appear before the senate committes on defence televised live to give account of who ordered 2 battalions of army for the arrival of a 'former' President without the knowledge of the Acting President. That is simply treason and seriuos breach of security. CIC gives order to the Army. Period.

Also all the aides to Yar A'clueless including his personal physician and his wife must be made to appear before the senate immediately to account for all the sheniagans that has been going in the last 95days plus. YAR A'FAILURE IS A NATIONAL PROPERTY AND NO LONGER A PRIVATE CITIZEN ONCE HE TOOK OATH OF OFFICE AS A PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA.

The Ag. President must reschuffle his National Security advisers especailly NSA Mukthar and bring serious intelligent officers with the very inner workings of the Military so that they can be checkmated. OBJ was a military man so he was able to keep them in check and that is one of his good legacy.

Jonathan should always remember the likes of Ironsi and Fajuyi and be prepared and very careful dealing with the army.

If Jonathan does that, he wont last a week on that seat and he knows it. He is not a revolutionary and he doesn't want to rock the boat. Revolutionaries frequently encounter Badluck and he wouldnt have been acting president today. He could not even sack Aondoakaa that 99.99% of Nigerians wanted sacked and executed.
