Who Are Worse: Nigerian Citizens Or The Nigerian Government? by Ikengawo: 1:54am On Aug 24, 2010
Who's killing who?

Nigerian citizens lament the government for not promotion tourism, but if you ask a nigerian citizen about nigeria they will just tell you it's the worst country of all time (even though the 3 countries it shares boarders with are 4x poorer).

Nigerian citizens talk about how dirty the cities are, but through all their garbage outside or out the window.

Nigerian citizens talk about the government not creating jobs, a duty of the citizen, but once they get the money to do so they go abroad.

so who's killing who?

nigerians are rather unpatriotic in their statements.i was once with a hungarian lady and after telling her how beautiful imo state is convinced her to visit my state.she was surprised at the level of hospitality and interest the people accorded her.she thought we were all dupesters, rirualists, kidnappers and unemployed courtesy of nigerians she met in hungary.many of those nigerians act like nigeria is hell and could do anything to remain in the impoverished country(hungary).
Re: Who Are Worse: Nigerian Citizens Or The Nigerian Government? by Ikengawo: 5:57am On Aug 24, 2010
yeah, i've literally never met anyone that has gone to nigeria and not loved it.
i was born in america, everything about me is essentially american, but i lived in nigeria and after school plan on living there for the rest of my life. I really don't see that nigerian people's problem is LOL.

the best people to talk about nigeria to are non nigerians that have been there cause nigerians have some psychosis when it comes to thinking about nigeria that makes their opinion worth dirt half of the time.

i also find it sad that America born nigerians are the most patriotic nigerians. Im not kidding. the levels of pride we have for nigeria is unmatched. I guess it comes from the american spirit of being proud of who you are.

When America was a backwater colony the people in it still believed it was the greatest country in the world until it became that.

nigerians on the other hand. god damn, lol.
you would think nigeria killed their wife.

until they come to the US and stay for 20 years, suddenly they'll love nigeria

The last time i checked you said you live abroad, in USA to be precised. Must every Nigerian be a hypocrite like you?
Nigeria is the best place to live in, i don't argue that, with great employments, no doubt abt that, yet you chose to stay in US where you have access to 24hrs light, good roads, hospitals and transportation.
Don't you see that makes you a hypocrite, Why don't you go back to our paradise?
You were born in America but lived in Nigeria, why did you leave Nigeria in the first place back to America? Why are you still there in the states, why did you chose to study in America instead of studying in our perfect country with a great educational system?

Thank you princekevo for mentioning the hypocrisy of this thread. I was born in U.S. as an anchor baby but was raised in Port Harcourt and I when I went to university in the U.S, even though I missed home, I was thankful to be in the U.S.

I've found that people are more likely to appreciate something that doesn't affect their present state negatively. Yes, I've noticed that Nigerians abroad in general tend to be more patriotic than the ones at home. It's simple: these Nigerians abroad find it easier to appreciate Nigeria because they don't actually live there and see the constant reminder of how horrible things are. You'll see these people yelling, "Naija till I die", etc while comfortable in another place that isn't Nigeria.

Is that really patriotism? Being quick to scream you love Nigeria where as you'd rather study in another man's land? I'll just say it's fake patriotism and people should stop deceiving themselves.

No, it isn't by their own motivation, not that it makes it any less a crime.

i disagree with d opinion dt d nigerians in diaspora claim patritism only out of comfort. for those of us who r home-based, how do we feel when we visit other smaller african countries? of course we hold our heads high and r quick to let anyone know that we r nigerians, isnt it? but d moment we r back within d borders we start throwing our tantrums which i c as a perfectly normal thing. just d same way an american or chinese will be brazen with u as foreigner but also sulkily regret some ongoing wrongs in her nation when discussion is switched to such matters. let me ask how many of us were not tired of d daily wranglings and bickerings in our own immediate families, but we also r quick to tell outsiders that we r proud of our families. it is only normal to exprress our frustrations and condemnations while we r at home, but when we go out, home is always home.

i dont think that nigerians hate nigeria, at least i have never met one despite having travelled far and wide d country. i only know of disgruntled nigerians. i keep repeating that d true test of national patritism is at d face of common challenge. check out d reaction of nigerians on d thread alleging cameroon plan to claim obudu. also r d reactions when bakassi was ceded and MEND bombing of atlas cove jetty in lagos, nigerians were unanimous in their quick and strong condemnation irrespective of what ethnicity or goe-political zone were involved. dats what i can call patriotism. if nigeria were to live in midst of hostile communities, then probably we would hav seen a more frequent display of 'patritism' show. i dont think it must always be mentioned, it is only enough to display it albeit tacitly in a modicum level.

finally, as per d true topic, my response is ds; is nigerian government made up of aliens? my answer answers yours too.

i bliv in nigerians, dey r just tired and disappointed in d ineffectiv system.

Not totally true, i live in Nigeria and i am VERY passionate about Nigeria no matter how you look at it, it's my country and i am not ready to claim any other country ahead of Nigeria.

We have our issues and no foreigners is going to solve these issues for us, the more we beat down the country, the more the problems remain.

@poster, Nigeria is where it is today because of the Labour of our past heros. Even the developed nations of the world are striving to progress. So you don't just wake up, eat, clean up your mouth and say everything is alright when you're not sure of your future. That you are better than your neighbour dosen't mean you're doing well.Ten years ago our leaders saw a vision and nick named it vision 2010. Seemed like 2010 won't come but it came. What are the achievements? Now it's vision 2020. Guys, wake up let's work towards a purposeful leadership by ensuring that our votes count in the 2011 election. Nigeria Go beta.

Simple evidence that the poster has 0 clue abt Nigeria, so lets quit argueing him. Below is his post in another thread he opened.

some of the faces on the nigerian currency are of figures that the nigerian populace generally detest, and i dont think this is right since they imposed their own image on them when they were dictating the nation.
some faced i'd like to see replace some of the dubious ones are

Fela Kuti
MKO Abiola
Ken Saro Wiwa
Awolowo
Dora Akunyili
Ribadu
Fashola
Achebe

and Gowon, Babangida and Abacha removed

Virtually every kid of 5years in Nigerian knows the head of our past heros that appeared our currency denominations yet our lost brother who claimed to know much abt Nigeria thinks the head of IBB, Gowon and Abacha is in any of our denomination.

Exactly!!. The Government in Nigeria is the innocent mirror of the nation. The quality of government and its leaders, is simply
a reflection of the collective consciousness of all the people in Nigeria. In some instances, leaders who came to power as the champions of anti-corruption have themselves been charged with being involved with levels of corruption even more serious than those of their predecessors. If the collective consciousness in Nigeria is disintegrated and negative, and people are not behaving in accord with Natural Law, then problems and corruption will be an unavoidable phenomenon of government. If, on the other hand, the collective consciousness in Nigeria is positive, integrated, and coherent, then the government will not be influenced by any negativity. If the people in Nigeria wish to be protected from corruption in government, then they must create an integrated collective consciousness. Positivity and harmony should be so strong and dense in national consciousness that negative influences cannot penetrate it.

LOL this is the typical nigerian response. Instead of considering what's said you question me because of my location. Every time i save over 2000 dollars im in Nigeria, I can't live there now because my parents moved me here and im still under them, hence when im DONE WITH SCHOOL, i'll be in NIGERIA like i said. smh.

but im clear to see that Nigerians are the problem with Nigeria not necessarily the government. The problem with the government is it's full of Nigerians.

You people's futile attempts to call my a hypocrite because I regularly leave the greatest country on earth to go live in Nigeria and will do that on a permanent basis the minute i have a choice is only to subvert to thinking about what has been posed to you because you don't have an answer that will suit your childish egos.

This is what so many people don't get. People blame the govt like they're aliens who arrived from space and landed in Nigeria to screw up the economy and tread on the citizens. But they were once citizens too and took their citizen values into power with them. A lot of normal Nigerians would do the same as them - it's sad to say but true. There's no point in being patriotic when your way of thinking is detrimental to a progressive, civilised society. People who criticise Nigeria are not necessarily anti the state but are just being honest about the fact that it's not where it's meant to be and for people who don't know how to play the game are not safe to go there. People who go there and have a good time usually have people helping them out, showing them what's what and what's not. You could not suggest a westerner to go travelling by themselves in Nigeria - get real.

@Abagworo,
luck might not be on ur side when next u will bring her back as she cld be kidnapped. let us tell ourselves the truth. let us stop pretending that all is well in the midst of all these instabilities. look at jos. look at the new bombing madness. look at the corruption in govt. do u think that every nigerian coming out praise nigeria will change a thing? look at egypt and tunisia. they have decided to attack their problems and solve it once and for all so why are we pretending.

@topic,
leaders are those choosen to make laws and orders that will guide the actions of the masses. you can look up the definition of a leader in ur dictionary. if you loose control of someone under you, you have failed. if you make bad policies, you have failed.
have u asked yourself why is it that nigerians are scattered all over the world including hungary like the man above?
in the early 80s, we saw ghanians scattered all over the world indicating bad times in their country but today, we see them go back indicating home is okay. liberians were seen in the 90s running away from danger but had to go home with the emergence of peace and democarcy.
i have seen many give testimonies of visa at last, finally, we have been granted 10 yrs visa. soon we will be hearing visa to ghana at last, we have been granted a 50 yrs visas to niger.
we continue seeing ppl run out of nigeria without seeing them come back. all is not well uncle.
wrist watches are not looked at through mirrows. the day things begin to improve, u will notice it without doubts.
have u ever asked urself why anybody can be a citizen of nigeria but anybody cannot be a leader of nigeria? madmen can be nigerians but under normal circustances, madmen cannot be nigerian leaders.
men of questionable/dubious characters can be nigerians but they are not surposed to be leaders. are u not seeing that 99.9999% of our so-called leaders have question marks behind their names.
we are doomed in the area of leadership believe me.

@honeric01,
what if our votes don't count? did we vote obasanjo and yar adua? what is happening in egypt cld make u know that these criminal rulers will always have their ways. what about iran where the protesting masses were shot without mercy? why is gbagbo of ivory coast not quiting even when the masses are tired of him?
can you see how much jega has collected from jonathan and u compare the output with the input?
face the fat brother. at least 80% of nigerians are anti pdp and as such oposition shld win but with jega been over paid, his boss must be rewarded no wonder jonathan refused the idea of the inec chairman been choosen by an independent body.

All these statements of why a person would study in america rather than Nigeria are laughable. Nigeria doesn't have a school ranked in the top 300 in the world and I'm being generous with that estimation. I blame the Govt but the govt is essentially run by the people so you can't have one without the other. I will say in Nigeria we are too quick to settle. If something isn't right everyone "manages it" which isn't right. If the attitude towards a lot of things changed in Nigeria we would have done a very big thing as a nation
Re: Who Are Worse: Nigerian Citizens Or The Nigerian Government? by Meddler(f): 9:02pm On Feb 01, 2011
I'm going with the citizens because I believe we have been infected with a serious disease and we are not aware of this. This disease is only cured when we leave Nigeria for a foreign country (and I don't mean for another African country. It is my belief that all Africans think and act alike). From the way we drive especially the "two stupid goats syndrome" (well the actual story is about two goats and at the end of the story, one of the goat end up giving way so the other can pass) which is what I call it because in our case both drivers want the right of way!!! I actually saw a driver get trapped in an in flow of traffic because he just had to cross the intersection right at the same moment he saw incoming traffic. I don't know if he was trying to test the law of physics of 2 matter occupying the same space undecided.

Anyway, like I keep saying if we want to change our country, we need to change our collective thinking and the way we treat one another. Apparently, we love going to church but hate practicing what we hear.
Re: Who Are Worse: Nigerian Citizens Or The Nigerian Government? by chiogo(f): 12:23am On Feb 02, 2011
Well, the government were once citizens too so it only makes sense that they're no different from one another. And poster, when you say "Nigerians are fuck ups", you're part of it too. #justsaying.
