you honestly shouldn't have asked that  

1. Defend: Gerrard has played in the defence in the past, even right back and he did a damn good job too
2. Control the Midfield: Lampard might score more goals than Gerrard but if ur looking for a midfield marshall, Gerrard will control all the flow of the midfield, stopping play as well as bombing foward
3. Versatility: Gerrard can play in far more positions than Lampard can dream of, the guys is by far Englands best player but Lampard dey cramp im style badly.

The only aspect Lampard is better than Gerrard is scoring and thats only cos he is given a free role, Gerrard has a more responsible role of breaking up play and he still manages to get a good number of goals

To be sincere, Gerrard may be beta than Lampard in a host of things esp versatility, but there is something no one can take away from Lampard - His statistics. He's the highest scoring midfielder in the premiership and even Gerrard can come near that. Even in England Lampard may have scored more goals.

Lampard is a great player. He has been linked with all the great clubs - Real, Barca, Milan, Juve. Ronaldinho once wanted him and Henry in Barca. His passes and goals are just superb. Every season he nets at least 15 goals for Chelsea - and i'm only talking about the premiership. He holds the record of longest consecutive hours played in the premiership, only a keeper - James - comes next.

Even England fans are quick to forget that his superb display in Euro 2004 or world cup 2006 qualifiers. His world cup was not great cuz he did not score a goal, but excuse me since when did we judge midfielders through the number of goals scored? The answer - since Frank Lampard showed the great scorer he is.

When footballers are compared, the major yardsticks that are used in assessing 'em to ascertain which is better are VERSATILITY, SKILL & CONSISTENCY over a given period of time ! nobody looks @ the no. of titles you've won, how many goals you score, the no. of shots you play, the distance you run, the no. of tackles you make etc.
GEORGE WEAH was voted world player of the year & he never even played a single world cup match; he only ever played in the CAF nations cup once ! my point exact; forget stats, forget records --- put Lamps & Stevie G on a scale and weigh based on their abilities & see who comes up tops ! Gerrard definitely will score a whole lot more points than Lamps !

Goals and title won always come into perspective.

I could argue about Lamps versatility with Gerrard since through he's amazing goal ration, i can use him as a striker. So that cancels out using Gerrard as a defender.

Lamps is very well more Consistent than Gerrard. Whats your reference frame? Club football or Country?

Skill too can be argued. The too of them hardly play the dribble and skillful game. And it terms of accurate passes you can check up the last season results on that.

Consistency level: Since his £11m moveto Chelsea, no single Blue had been more consistent.

Deco worked with JM few years ago and its an open secret that he is excellent but JM says " Frank is a player he cannot swap with any player in the world"

He may not be flashy but he gets the job done.

Ronaldihno is much younger than Becky. Take me some years back and i would undoubtedly say Becky.

Ronaldinho has been terrific in Barca in terms of pace, dribble, passes, flair, skill and goals.

Take nothing out of Beckham he's a marvellous player and is transforming Real. Becky probably has been better this year than Ronaldinho but in the last few years Ronaldinho has been much better.

Lampard, Gerrard, i can't believe this is an argument. Lampard is played week in week out in a free role by his coach, hence his impressive stats.
To see who's the better player, lets swap them, put Lampard in Gerrard position in Liverpool n vice versa

Gerrard will come up with the goals easily and will add more to his usual tally, Lampard on the other hand cannot do what Gerrard does, breaking up attacks, scoring isn't all midfielders are required to do, gerrard does both easily (VERSATILITY) Lampard although an impressive goal scorer (Against the weaker teams) is no where close to being a destructive midfielder.

Now i just came across a mathematicall statistics that CLEARLY PLACES LAMPARD HIGH ABOVE GERRARD IN UK.

Also, Frank Lampard is fabulous. The common view is that Steven Gerrard is better than Lampard. Well, we cannot pass comment on basic skills. I hate Chelsea to death but if its one thing im not its biased, Lampard is a fantastic player anyday he brings a lot to Chelsea and he picked up the slack the last three seasons while their strikers where all asleep well at least one of them has woken up,

Now that Gerrard had one bad match does not make Lampard better than him, If you ask me id rather have Stevie G in my team hes a very good goalscorer might not be prolific as Lampard but he brings a lot more to the team and if you ask me He is better than Lampard though by a not so wide margin,
