Who Is Abubakar Sindiku? by naijaking1: 4:38am On Mar 16, 2011
Abubakar Sindinku used to be the muslim name of Pastor Tunde Bakare before he abandoned islam and converted to christianity. This came as a shock to me, because all the people I know who had left islam to convert to other religions are under some sort of fatwa as we speak. Why do people forget that Bakare is actually Alhaji Abubakar Sindiku would later curse, abandon, and denegrate islam only to be elevated to a position of potentially becoming our number 2 citizen. While this is not to preach violence, it must always be considered that Abubakar Sindinku changed his name. This article shows a better picture of the man we call Tunde Bakare today.

BAKARE AT GANI’S CHAMBER

The late legal icon, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN) used to call Pastor Tunde Bakare “Abubakar Sindiku,” being his Muslim name. Pastor Tunde Bakare practised Law in the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi’s Chamber, Anthony village, Lagos. He also practised law in other law firms in Lagos, including “Awosika and Awosika”, before he established his own law firm which was known as “El-Shaddai Chamber”.

Olatunji Akinola, a Lagos based lawyer, told our correspondent that he had a case “Jaiyeola vs. Jaiyeola” which was then before Justice Omotunde Ilori, (who later became the Chief Judge of Lagos State). In that case, it was two factions in a family that engaged in a legal tussle over a will.

According to Akinola, while the legal battle was raging in court, one of the children of the deceased could not access money to pay his school fees and almost dropped out of school, but himself (Barrister Olatunji Akinola) and Bakare, not only agreed, but also applied to the court and the child’s school fees was deducted from the estate while the case was still in court. Today, that child is a lawyer.

He described Bakare as a hardworking, steadfast and industrious personality.

His words: “he (Bakare) will never give in to cheating. He is a down-to-earth person and pursues whatever he believes in with all dexterity.”

Barrister Oluwole Kehinde, one of the lawyers in the defunct Gani Fawehinmi Chambers, told our correspondent that even though he didn’t meet the fiery cleric at the chamber, his name was still written in gold.

According to him, while there, Bakare was hardworking, principled and very friendly. “He was close to late Gani Fawehinmi’s family. He didn’t have any negative record of transaction or dupe any client to soil the image of the chamber’’.

He said these attributes are a manifestation that Bakare is one of the conscience of the nation who can be trusted at all times. He said his Vice Presidential ambition under the CPC is in order.

According to him, his match with General Muhammadu Buhari, who is equally an upright person, is a deserving one and will benefit the nation in the long run.

Ridicule?
There's no ridicule here, this man is trying to become our vice president, don't we have a right to know as much as we can about him?

I don't know of any bad record, but that's not the point. The point is that he was a faithful muslim who rejected his faith, took up christianity, and now a vice presidential candidate. Nigerians need to know his profile, good or bad.

Re: Who Is Abubakar Sindiku? by Genbuhari3: 5:56pm On Mar 16, 2011
so this is what naijaking and the 40 GEJ supporters have degenerated to? The pastor becoming a politician did not work, now you guys are at the point of inciting muslims against Bakare.

Let me tell you though: A pro GEJ Senator and campaigner had already said Bakare should be stoned as a former muslim, but what happened when Bakare went to the core muslim north west and spoken to the crowd without security. he even shouted PDP Haram in Maiduguri and the muslim crowd screamed after him.

Guys,

When change is backed by God, nothing you say to incite hatred can be effective

The Buhari/Bakare campaign team is the only team that started their campaign with one week fasting and prayer ending in mosque and churches. that is why the campaign has been devoid of plane crashlanding, road accidents, deaths at rally stampede unlike GEJ who has had tragedy following him in PH, Katsina, Nasarawa, Gombe!

Keep the propaganda going though, it doesn't matter when change is moving at a daring speed!
Re: Who Is Abubakar Sindiku? by Kobojunkie: 5:58pm On Mar 16, 2011
This obsession is as silly as that some have with Obama's middle name being HUSSEIN. You have to be seriously off your rockers to descend to this level.

I have friends who were once muslims, complete with the muslim names, who changed their names after becoming Christians and I don't think it is even mature to make fun of their old name or make an issue of it. undecided

I didn't know that pastore Bakare used to be a muslim, and I'm sure many other people don't know also.
What is wrong knowing everything about my potential vice president who could be one heart beat away from the presidency

In my opinion it means he is a man  of his own chosen  than most like you that call themslves Christian without any idea what it mean, but were christians because they were born to people that proffessed christinity.

If the man was once a moslem but based on his own personal convictions later believed in Jesus as his Messiah and made a personal change, that should be commended. I wonder if you were born in Katsina whether you will be anything other than a moslem?

I knew next to Adam about this guy Bakare and I would love to hear and see all the skeletons in his cupboard, but if this what you guys got on him, it totally ridiculous to say the list.
The campaign of clumpsy before now, was that Buhari is a jihadist and then the guy not only chose a so called christian as his VP but chose the one that left Islam for christianity which according to jihadist, he is an infidel and now Buharri detractor seems to have nothing else to turn to.
Jonathan can still win this election but if he resorts to saying silly thing about his opponents, dodging debates, denying opponents venues, busy all night baking biscuits to bribe the hungry, he might get a shock as this is not vs Atiku or PDP primaries.

Good.
This is a positive point for the pastor, but whether positive or negative, we're all entitled to know. I was pleasantly surprised the guy forsaked islam to join christianity, I wish Buhari would do same too.

Is it to spite the north against him for abandoning islam or what ? Na wao

Eziachi, nwanne m, you've earned my respect for the above comment. I admire your objectivity in this case - anyone who accuses you of not being objective in matters of the civil war should be deemed utterly insensitive in my books. carry go, my brother.

@Naijaking, Sindiku is one of the most beautiful names I've heard in a very long time. Even you have to admit that it is time for PDP to go.

I never like PDP as a party, but to replace GEJ because of "northern interest" is the worst thing that may happen to Nigeria. Better choices than Buhari include Ribadu and Utomi, but it seems their chances are quite distal.
Changing GEJ for Buhari will be like flying from frying pan to fire.
At this time PDP is better, just to prove the point that no sectional interest should dominate the national interest. Ciroma doesn't own this country!
I wasn't surprised when they said Ribadu and other northern presidential candidates will drop out for Buhari, because it's all about 'Northern interest"

Ha ha ha - very funny. Yeah right, how about figuring out how much value a post will add before spewing it out? You don't have to descend this low. And yes, your so-called surprise was pretty silly. Every kid on the street knows Bakare was formally a Muslim. Infact I think his mum is still a Muslim. And by the way, you didn't post it as a surprise - it sounded every bit as a poorly orchestrated attempt to ridicule the man and to ridicule all Muslims.

As for the 'not-so-smart' part, all I can say is: he he he!!!

When the discussions come down to real issues dragging the country back, there is only one candidate that has the moral capacity to put us back on course and this is based on facts and data you can play with.
