Oh my God! I know all the Juve fans will be very happy having seeing the heart of Arsenal's midfield lost.

Only God can save Arsenal this coming season. Having only Henry to bank on isn't just good, Wenger needs to buy an attacker that is comparable to Henry but the fowl will still keep to his crop of french players. Who knows? Henry may even leave (surprisingly ) just as Viera did.

I know one thing: we are in for one hell of a season.

Well, I really don't care who replaces Vieira. I'm a die-hard juve fan and all I can say is that I saw Vieira play his first competitive (not crucial) game last night in a short tournament against an under-squaded Milan and Inter side and he played superbly well cheesy

Forza Juve!

Re: Who Fills Patrick Vieira's Shoes? (After Arsenal -> Juventus Transfer) by c0dec(m): 6:01pm On Jul 21, 2005
milan had kaka, Sheva and the rest last season and we still beat them.

http://c0dec.150m.com/rants/juve0405.html

with their new signings (vieri and gilardino), nothiing still dey happen.
Re: Who Fills Patrick Vieira's Shoes? (After Arsenal -> Juventus Transfer) by lordimpaq(m): 6:06pm On Jul 21, 2005
vieri may not be a threat but gilardino is ..............he was the highest goal scorer last season for cryin out loud......... i bet when they meet........it would go milan's way.......trust me.......u guys can't go far in the champions league this year...
Re: Who Fills Patrick Vieira's Shoes? (After Arsenal -> Juventus Transfer) by bijorium(m): 8:26pm On Jul 21, 2005
Without meanin to be sarcastic , I thought football or any other game for that matter is about teamwork. So with or without Vieira, arsenal, if they r really worth their mettle shdould be able to stand their ground.

Like the yoruba say, Igi kan o le dagbo se grin grin
Re: Who Fills Patrick Vieira's Shoes? (After Arsenal -> Juventus Transfer) by c0dec(m): 8:33pm On Jul 21, 2005
nope. gilardino was the 2nd highest goal scorer. the highest was lucarelli of livorno.

you say: we can't go far in the CL this year? we'll see.

BTW juve always does better than arsenal in the CL. (why do u think vieira joined us?) u guys are big time under achievers.
Re: Who Fills Patrick Vieira's Shoes? (After Arsenal -> Juventus Transfer) by jogego(m): 8:41pm On Jul 21, 2005
People tend to have short memories. Wenger let Anelka go at the height of his career, what happened? In came Henry.

Same way, he let Petit and Overmars go at the same time. Who woulda thought Arsenal could survuve that? In my opinion, Arsenal played the better football last season when Vieria was not on the field.

I trust Wenger and I wait patiently to see what he will do. Agreed we will miss the agressiveness and leadership but lets see how it goes.

To answer you on that one Ayo, a team wins or looses its games in the midfield, which is why Ch€£$ki did well last season. Makelele was the man of the season, playing that quiet role that people never notice, but is extremely important. Now as to Arsenal...

Arsenal, yes, have lost an inspirational player in Vieira, but they haven't lost jack in terms of quality... Why? Because Vieira is not a defensive midfielder. He is a central midfielder not an offensive midfielder in the true sense of the word (the Okocha or Maradona or Zidane type) but more of the Lampard or Mikel Obi type, the type that Juve were missing last season (Appiah didn't try until after we lost to Liverpool, and Blasi has potential, but was crappy), the type that Arsenal still has in young Fabregas. The tragedy for Arsenal would have been if they had sold Gilberto. Vieira has Emerson to cover for him at Juve. Think of it this way, Vieira's best performances for Arsenal were in the days of Petit... and he 'went' down slightly but came back up when Gilberto came. The same thing that will happen to Lampard when Makelele retires, that happened to Madrid when Makelele left. That happened to Gerrard when Xabi Alonso was injured.

The point is this: CMs need DMs in order to shine. If there's no DM in the team (Arsenal for a majority of last season), the CM won't shine. Vieira spent majority of last season playing baby sitter (DM) to Fabregas, which was why he 'had a bad season'. In Juve, with Emerson and Tacchinardi (in case of an Emerson injury), he has 2 solid DMs that will let him express himself.

In Fabregas and Hleb, Arsenal have a potentially great CM and trust me, a world class CM. In all honesty, I wish we had gotten Hleb and left Vieira at Arsenal, but nothing spoil.

Meantime c0dec, you can get the TIM Cup highlights from here: http://s50.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=23GCC6H0EFAUS36GMWV6L37ZYC

Sorry O cheta......

wetin u chop wey make u sick.......anyway hope u recover fast enuff...

too much football.....too much juve........how u no go sick....

anyway nice tohave u back

As regards the CM.....i love ur view....its true a CM needs a DM...if the DM messes up the CM doesn't do anything...he finds it difficult spreading the passes....

ciao.brother.

Chxta! I believe.

Re: Who Fills Patrick Vieira's Shoes? (After Arsenal -> Juventus Transfer) by madlawyer1(m): 3:24pm On Jul 23, 2005
Arsene Wenger would never have sold Vieira if he didn't feel he had the team to play without him. Arsene Wenger is clearly evolving the way the team plays.

Based on the display against the massed Bayern Munich defence at Highbury last season, Wenger saw that when facing such tactics, playing Vieira and Gilberto just wasn't the thing. Vieira is a DMC, and is capable of playing both CM and DM, but Arsene Wenger saw that when the wings get choked, you need a player who is capable of unlocking the centre of the opposition, not through charging runs, but through incisive passes. That is why he pursued Alexander Hleb. In Hleb, Arsenal finally have a CM who'll be comfortable in the middle of the field, leaving Gilberto to concentrate on his job of mopping up opposition attacks, and leaving Hleb to instigate the razor counter-attacks that are Arsenal's trademark.

Arsenal's football is such that opposition managers have remarked that Arsenal is most dangerous when defending because they can sweep the ball from the edge of their own penalty area to the opposition's in less than five seconds. Vieira was integral to this style of play, but maybe he got jaded from being in the same club for so long, but he was no longer producing those long passes with the regularity that made him the heart of our midfield.

As for his babysitting of Fabregas, you could see that he was actually chafing at not being allowed to charge up the field the way he likes because he wasn't sure of the type of cover he'd be getting, but the thing is that on those days, Arsene Wenger actually wanted Vieira to play as the DM, and let Fabregas carry on with the job of CM, but Vieira ended up raining on Fabregas' parade because he never let the boy get on with his job, with the result that neither Fabregas nor Vieira looked comfortable playing with each other.

When Gilberto played with Fabregas at the begining of the season, Arsenal were instantly freed from the predictable wing play opposition teams had come to expect from us, and we began hitting at the heart of teams. The results were clear, Arsenal no longer played two dimensional wing football, but became a total threat from all over the midfield. Arsene Wenger has even hinted that he's not looking for another CM, but rather he's looking for another striker. Arsenal's midfied next season will look something like this:

Reyes-Gilberto-Hleb-Ljunberg, or
Reyes-Gilberto-Fabregas-Hleb.

So make una no worry, we go pour pepper for everybody eye.

I trust Arsene Wenger to bring in a 17 year old and expect him to do viera's job better than him, but really i dont care bout them as long as chelsea retains the premiership. Thay are just makin it easier for us. As it is now, liverpool is the only competition that chelsea has.

dre901> ibrahimovich, mutu, trezeguet, del piero, zalayeta. these are the likes of sheva and adriano.

BTW, we proved we don't need adriano or sheva to win.

lordimpaq> i can't remember the last time there was a big name signing at arsenal. you guys keep buying cheap unknowns.

i'm not saying it's a bad idea or anything. i don't fancy the spending types like madrid, chelsea and inter.

juve makes big name signings at cheap prices.
Re: Who Fills Patrick Vieira's Shoes? (After Arsenal -> Juventus Transfer) by lordimpaq(m): 7:58pm On Jul 27, 2005
yeah the same trez, del piero and zalayeta could not beat liverpool.............so much for u guys.........

u guys were just lucky to win the league the last time.....

the big signing we made is yet to blossom......Reyes.....20m$ just watch out for him........he'll find his feet....

we've rising stars...... fabregas, senderos, wat ave u guys got anyway......old pple "del piero" and the lot

u guys should start buying young players not old veterans..........abi u una wan become bolton
Re: Who Fills Patrick Vieira's Shoes? (After Arsenal -> Juventus Transfer) by c0dec(m): 5:18pm On Jul 29, 2005
cheeky.

beating liverpool is not the issue. sheva didn't beat pool and your arsenal couldn't even make it to the quarters.

reyes at 20m was still relatively an unknown. most people didn't hear about him till he joined arsenal.

buffon, zlatan, trez, del piero, tacchinardi, zidane, vieri, davids and more all came in to juve at young ages.

we don't need kids on our team. we are not ajax. successful clubs shoudn't depend on kids.

Wrong!

ManU in the mid-90s after the era of Stone, Pallister and Ince. The only 'old men' there being Schmeichel, Cantona and Keane. Look where it got them...

I really think arsenal fans should not be outspoken in this gathering!!! cool off on old glory and talk bout current form, apart from stealin the FA cup from man utd, what do they have to offer. now they cant even make a positive scoop for the future. somebody shold tell wenger that there are no more 17 yr olds ramaining. I'll start respecting them when they reach the semi final of the CL
