Nairaland / General / Message To Media:be Professional And Have National Interest In Your Reporting by nigeriawetrust1: 4:57pm On Jan 27, 2017
Press freedom is one of cardinal component of democracy world over...In addition to 2011 freedom of information bill passed by our National Assembly all to allow media to do its job. However it is the same constitution and FIB which disallow press to report on security matters of national security interest. What happened regarding the raid of premium times was unnecessary, but if what we read on pages of newspapers concerning the report credited to Premium times on leaking an operation in Gambia, to say the least is unprofessional and unpatriotic as it could jeopardise the lives of our esteemed citizens staying in the Gambia and also it caused the loss of surprise which is one of the principles of war or military operation.

We are not supporting the security people but what the premium Times did was equally bad. We should think of the interest of our country before any persons interest. More so what do they want to achieve, more annoying is publishing some vital military documents. No nation can tolerate this kind of issue no matter the Democratic values so why doing it here. We have to be sincere with ourselves on this. Professional bodies like NUJ, press council of Nigeria should impress on their members to report professionally and also educate on sections of our constitution on Freedom of information bills that restrict or ban reporting security issues that have negative implication on security.

Security agencies should compliment this effort by organising seminars and workshops with a view to educating the press on dangers inherent in devouring information on security matters to the public. The NUJ and other organisations should have dug the issue which Warranted the raid before threatening the nation with United Nation as it is, we are the ones that can do good to ourselves not UN. We have to be cautious on our utterances as we have more serious challenges not just the incident.

Dialogue with relevant stakeholders is the answer not UN, as this is an in house thing. Is it everyday when u have a quarrel with your wife u invite a mediator? Let's collectively Work to better this country as me and our members don't have any country except this at least for now. So why don't we hold the one we have and make it better as we want it before thinking for anyone else. Sentiments wouldn't make our nation great. May God help us to overcome our numerous problems amin.

The Nigeria We Trust group wishes to request the Nigerian Media to be professional and uphold the tenet and roles of the press especially in deescalating violence and enhancing positivity for the interest of the nation. We know media can foster harmonious and peaceful coexistence.
But recently these positive roles are fading away giving room to dangerous reporting which are capable of inflaming crises in the land. It should serve as an agent of peace. We are very much aware of the fact that in developing countries reportage is characterised by bad and disgusting headlines for them to sell their papers. However stories with divisive sentimental and hated or insinuating stories should be discouraged. For example Nigerian Air Force bombed IDP in Borno, parts of small children found after bombing; even though the incident happened, but the stories seemed to represent deliberate bombing or done intentionally.

There is no expression of sympathy and was reported upside down with no care for human lives . When America bombed Syria troops by mistake and Afghanistan hospital no American papers carried ,it was only aired by CNN once with a message of operational mistake. But ours it becomes a daily reportage up to today in the name of making money because the more u feature it the more u remind people of the tragedy which is not good at all. We should continue to help our nation by responsible reporting of our affairs otherwise we will be in mess. The media remains very powerful in transforming and uplifting any nation and we urge you to use these good side of the media to propel the our cause of nation building.
Politics / Lets Come Together As One And Unite: We Are Nigeria by nigeriawetrust1: 4:27pm On Jan 12, 2017
The Nigerian Amalgamation in 1914 whether accidental or deliberate has succeeded in bonding us together as a nation which to some extent has some positive and negative implication but there is nothing anybody can do, more so we are not the first this kind of thing will happen to. The issue is since this bond has taken place for over a century, it will be disservice, unhelpful for us as citizens to continue to breed discomfort and hatred amongst ourselves. We should be thinking as a nation or as citizens that could ignore their differences towards developing and taking the nation to an unimaginable height. Issues of hatred of one another couldn't solve issues rather it will degenerate our aspirations or hope of development. There is no need for pointing accusing fingers at one another, as the nation has no time, because of paucity of time, mundane and self-centred issues such as tribalism, religious differences will not transform the country to meet up with other developed nations. we must bury this stagnations thinking or elements who could not equally advance our cause as a nation even though most of these activities are politically motivated foiled by elites, but the common man in the grassroots be it any tribe will continue their business anywhere they find themselves.

We should always think positive to build this nation devoid of such kind of allegations and counter allegation for the interest of everyone one thing we forget to tell ourselves is, there is nothing anyone can do to reverse the trend. Therefore all citizens should see themselves as brothers and sisters to close ranks as a mitigating instrument that will advance our unionism. It is time to avoid criticisms and uncomplimentary comments for us to strengthen our democratic principles and act as patriotic citizens to champion a common national goal as against personal or regional goal. Citizens work as one from one country because when you go out of the shores of this country, the first question you will be asked is where are you coming from and the answer is always Nigeria not Abia, Oyo or Kano why shouldn't we behave in this spirit and take ourselves as one. God should bless us and make us know our values, identify our talents and help us to always think Nigeria.
Politics / Appreciate Our Security Agencies by nigeriawetrust1: 1:15pm On Jan 10, 2017
We are yet to understand the antics of insurgency. Recall that there is no nation that defeats insurgency within the shortest time as Nigeria did. We should cast our mind back to some countries that have been battling insurgency for several decades. It is one of the characteristics of insurgency to restore to hit and run activities or ambushing using pockets of the remnants of the terrorists in form of sleeper cells to attack soft targets or vulnerable points.

We have seen this even in the most developed Nations with all their technologies but when such things happen this does not mean that the terrorists are not defeated and nobody would cherish what the terrorist does rather the whole citizen will rise in support of the effort put in place to contain or condemn their activities.
No Newspaper of prominence be it traditional or social media would make the attack or activities permanent in the pages of news papers, but in our own case, some people and some papers drive pleasure or excitement portraying as if they are glad of the perpetual activities of the terrorist.

Furthermore, some people will be commenting as if nothing is being done by terrorist group. This is not encouraging at all.
we have to appreciate the effort of all, including the security people, the government and all well meaning individual who give moral and other supportive role. The issue of apportioning blames should be over all hands should be on deck to make positive comments and work towards improving the security situation of our country.
it is catastrophic to meddle security issues with politics in the national crisis as we are having today, requires unity of efforts irrespective of differences in parties, religion and ethnicity to attend to the national crisis till it is over.

This is what nations and their citizens do. Why don't we imbibe this sensible and nationalistic culture of being our brothers keeper.
Uncomplimentary comment from Aisha Yesufu BBOG leader and other persons and group cannot salvage the situation rather exasperated the situation. None of them ever tried to go to IDP's and show sign of love and sympathy, rather they are here in Abuja making fruitless protest, even though they have to do it to show their pay masters both national and international to justify the money collected from them.
our military and other security agencies are doing more than enough to do the country proud and rescue all our brothers and sisters including the remaining Chibok girls. Let's have confidence in our uniform people. For the campaigners, well done but appreciate what others are doing including the government even if you don't like it, we are succeeding and we will continue to succeed. God willing.

RE: ICC RECEIVES COMPLAINT AGAINST AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES IN NIGERIA

My attention has been drawn to the above publication carried on page 10 of Daily Trust of 14 September 2016. The complaint was allegedly written and filed by a civil society group in Nigeria who has been a keen watcher of activities of Amnesty International (AI) in Nigeria.
This latest twist of fate has clearly vindicated the Nigerian military that has long seen Amnesty International as having an agenda against Nigeria and its military. It is believed that AI whose goal is promoting and protecting human rights has derailed into an incendiary and partisan goal of negative agenda against a sovereign state.

Amnesty International has over the years embarked on series of allegations against the Nigerian military as far back as the inception of military’s action against terrorist in the North East. The same organisation has never for one condemned the several atrocities of mass killings of innocent citizens and destruction of infrastructures in the wake of terrorists activities in the country.
Amnesty International continued to single out the Nigerian military in its campaign to rubbish Nigeria and its Armed Forces as a non-performer and abuser of human rights while celebrating and exonerating Boko Haram terrorists and its activities. Clearly so, I want to urge the ICC to beam its searchlights on the leadership of AI with a view to stopping it from pursuing negative agenda not only against the Nigerian state but globally.

The Nigerian Armed Forces has a record of high discipline and performance while conducting peacekeeping and peace-enforcement operations as exemplified in Liberia and Sierra-Leone respectively. We as citizens owe it as a duty to voice our support for the image of the military which is the only bastion of hope for the survival of this country. We urge Amnesty International to take all necessary steps to restore the glory and credibility of the organisation before the eyes of Nigerians.
Nairaland / General / ICC Receives Complaint Against AI Activities In Nigeria by nigeriawetrust1: 9:51am On Sep 16, 2016
The International Criminal Court (ICC) has confirmed the receipt of a petition against the activities of Amnesty International in Nigeria.
The acknowledgement was dated September 9, 2016 signed by Mr. Mark Dillon, the head of Information and Evidence in the Office of the Prosecutor, ICC.

According to Dillon, the ICC is in custody of a complaint by a civil society organization from Nigeria, the Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency (CESJET), requesting the prosecutor to open a criminal investigation into the activities of the international human rights organization.
In the petition submitted to the office of The Prosecutor, International Criminal Court (ICC), Madame Fatou Bensouda, CESJET, through its counsel, Edward Omaga, a Nigerian lawyer, said AI, in promoting and protecting human rights, had derailed into an incendiary and partisan goal.
He said CESJET said records showed that Boko Haram had killed more than 20,000 Nigerians since 2012.
The group also said Niger Delta militants had continued to breach the peace while destroying the nation’s economic infrastructure.

Politics / Re: Another Boom As Delta Greenland Justice Mandate (NDGJM) Warns That Niger Delta by nigeriawetrust1: 10:55am On Sep 15, 2016
EMULATE AVENGERS – GROUP TELLS NIGER DELTA GREENLAND JUSTICE MANDATE

It is a common knowledge that violence and destruction are easy to organize and to carry out and therefore should not be seen as things of pride or show of invincibility and ego, like the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate wants Nigerians to believe. One thing that is paramount is that we have no other country we can call our own and all economic assets therein are our pride. Why people should take so much delight in the destruction of national assets to fulfill selfish interest leave much to desire.

We are talking against the background of the recent claim by the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate (NDGTM) that blew up the NNPC pipeline with spillage over farmland, thereby constituting more hazard to the existing environmental problem in the area.

It has come to a time that anybody claiming to be fighting for his people must first of all put the overall interest of the people into consideration before embarking on such venture. Certainly, breaking oil and gas pipelines with its attendant spillage could not be said to be in the best interest of millions of Niger Delta people in particular and Nigerians in general. It is on this note that we sincerely appeal to the NDGJM to emulate the Niger Delta Avengers that voluntary considered calling off attacks on oil and gas nationals assets for dialogue. This approach is ideal and the more civilized way of conflict resolution because no matter the amount of destruction and pains inflicted on hapless citizens of our dear nation it would eventually end up with dialogue one day. So, why not now?

It has been reiterated on our platform on several occasion that conflict does not pay, especially in a period when concerted effort is being made by the Federal Government to clean up Ogoniland and other Niger Delta areas as well as addressing other sundry problems in the area. Our group is also very much concern about the welfare and well being of the Niger Delta people in particular and Nigerians in general. In an event of situation degenerating, all of us would be affected, as no meaningful development could thrive in an insecure environment. We therefore, once again, urge the NDGJM to embrace peaceful resolution of the Niger Delta question for the best interest of our dear nation, as bad wind blows no one any good.
