TravelQuality Of Commute In Lagos by nigonus(op): 3:25pm On Sep 21, 2015
I'm running a survey to review the quality of commute (to and from work) in Lagos, based on people's choice of home location.

This may get us thinking of the choices we make with respect to home location and the accompanying cost savings vs the associated difficulty in travel and its associated cost.

I'll appreciate your time (less than 10 mins) to take part in the survey.

IslamRe: Solatul Subhi And My Work by nigonus: 4:06pm On Aug 21, 2015
Salam alaykum wa rahmatullah bro.

As a lot of the posters have said, it is fruitless observing solat before or after its time. So except for the occasions where the time for subh comes before 5AM, the brother is in a really difficult situation.

One solution proposed is for the brother to pray in the bus, however, how long do you want to continue like this. I would not feel comfortable with a situation like this personally if it is becoming the norm.

If it is not a staff bus, and there'll be stops to change buses along the way, then another solution presents itself, try and target bus stops where you'll be able to pray.

If you go with a staff bus, you can probably talk to the bus driver and reach an agreement whereby he stops for you at a convenient place for you to alight, while the bus continues its journey. Obviously, in this case you'll have to sacrifice the comfort of the staff bus and complete the last mile by yourself.

Also, if it's a staff bus and there are different routes and options, I'll suggest exploring some routes that leave later, so say your normal route is Berger and there is another touch point say in Oworonshoki, you can leave home maybe 15 mins earlier than you'll normally do and go by public transport to Oworonshoki, so that you'll be there earlier than the oworonshoki bus, pray and wait for that bus.

Think about the options, may Allah make it easy for you, and remember that as the prophet (SAW) taught us, the first thing we'll be asked about on the day of judgement is regarding solah.

Dominionng:
...Mr Kingsley sent a text few mins after 10am. "Please can you go to Wethdral by MCC junction, from there take a cab to UMUORI and stop at Obi Motors. Call me when you get there" The text reads. I was thinking of precautionary measures to take when Mr Kingsley called to confirm if I had gotten his text.

Me: Should I come right now?

Mr Kingsley: Yes please! I have personal business to attend to.

Me: The thing is I told Oga I have a couple of friends in town whose contact I just got. They are on their way here already.

Mr Kingsley: You can send them the address na(losing the THIN voice). The site is a walking distance from Obi Motors, let me just show you and go attend to my business. You guys can locate one another when they get there. Please come right away! I'm late already for my business.

Me: Alright Boss.

I left the hotel and stopped an empty tri-cycle across the road. Bargained with the driver to take me to UMUORI. He agreed after a little protest the place being far away.

I took my seat behind him. Driven in style! GLOing with pride! I'm winning a project after-all. I checked my phone to confirm the bus-stop. Obi Motors! Nice!! Mr David once mentioned the project is 4units na... I'd just use my profit to buy a Starlet Jeep or a Portable Hummer at the bus-stop. So easy! This is a testimony!!! cheesy

We got to the bus-stop after like 15mins and I instructed the keke driver to turn and park some 50meters after the bus-stop. My phone rang almost immediately. As expected, it was my THIN voiced Mr Kingsley.

Mr Kingsley: Where are you now?

Me: I'm at MCC junction now. Trying to find my way to UMUORI.

Mr Kingsley. Ok. What about your friends, how many of them are coming?

Me: My friends are just two and they are driving down. Probably they have others with them, I can't say. Is it important?

Mr Kingsley: Sorry. But who is going to get here first? Your friends or you?

Me: I don't know. They said they are almost there the last time we spoke. Let me confirm and call you back Boss.

Mr Kingsley: Please do. I'm seriously late now.

I waited for some 5mins before I called back.

Me: Boss, my friends are at the bus-stop now but they can't seems to locate you. What cloth are wearing? So I can pass the info.

Mr Kingsley: How many are they? I'm with a friend at the third street. Call me when you get there.

I ignored his question and dropped, but called back in less than a minute.

Me: I'm here boss.

Mr Kingsley: Ok wait for me there. How many are your friends and what are you wearing?

Me: A summershade Polo and a windspray Jean(God Bless Dulux) grin

Mr Kingsley: Which one be windspray! Are you the one with a back-bag?

Meanwhile, I can see a young chap with a back-bag at the bus-stop.

Me: Bros, I thought you said you are with a friend at the third street!

I dropped the call before he could defend himself and I called Mr David immediately. Behold! My Kingsley's THIN voice answered from the other end. "What did you say you are wearing?"

Oh really! I tapped my now impatient keke driver, "Nna, start this thing make we go"

Driver: Where we dey go now Bros? And what of the person you dey wait for?

Me: Anywhere but here. I've been longing to visit this city! Na excursion I con do for Owerri and you will take me round the city. Besides, where person fit see beta Nnkwobi at this time of the day?

Driver: Na Mama Oluchi place for that FUTO side but her Nnkwobi too cost.

Me: Let's go there. Today na my birthday!

He whistles happily. It's still a happy day after-all.....

Fellow Nigerians,

We are at another transition point in our history, and arguably more than ever before, the divide along religious and ethnic lines is steeper. This has seen people give sentimental reasons for their choice of political candidates.

However, it is important that if we will not repeat past mistakes, Nigerians look introspectively and determine what their expectations actually are, this way it will be easier to determine if they are being fulfilled or not and any subsequent changes will be based on clear numbers.

To this end, I've put together a short survey at this link (https://www.quicksurveys.com/s/Ma74Dn). The objective of which is to elicit how Nigerians view the performance of the current regime, and for it to form the basis of choice of candidate, and expectations for the next presidential tenure - whoever may be the president.

The survey is anonymous, so you can share your honest assessments - even TAN members or Buharist can express their real choice of a candidate devoid of watching eyes wink.

The survey will take less than 5 mins of your precious time.

Enjoy as you click away - https://www.quicksurveys.com/s/Ma74Dn grin

EBK2: What he said is true though. He probably said what most people are thinking. Because he is a politician, he shouldn't say what thinks is true. If you have been outside Nigeria, you should know that those emails are greater sources of embarrassment and Nigeria authorities should focus more on tackling the root cause rather than attacking Mr Cruz. When govt allows University students to stay at home for months, they are indirectly encouraging our youth to send those Emails and this is the sort of thing we should be debating rather than attack an American politician who was merely stating the obvious.
Nigerian High Commission in Washington should tell us what they have done to improve image of Nigeria amongst US-based Nigerians let alone non Nigerians rather than playing busy-body by commenting on frivolities.
I think you're right.

We've got major issues, but this one from the US senator is not one of them.

Ill-advised? Yes it was. And I believe ideally it's the kind of situation that a political-savvy, charismatic president or foreign minister will handle with a few words. Cue Abati or Okupe coming up with a 100 pager for this non-issue to look good in front of Nigerians.

However, as some posters have mentioned, how are we as a nation tackling the root cause of this - from parents to the society at large and then our leaders. What everybody thinks/dreams of now is how to make money, the means does not matter, just the end. And once we imbibe this culture of end justifies the means, then we have the yahoo boys, ATM frauds, corruption, etc.

Where are our moral values as a people, we seem to have lost most of them and the small ones remaining are getting eroded everyday in the name of civilization or success. Even some religious organizations preach wealth/money as success. No recourse to the value we give as people.

Wow!

First I must congratulate the author of this piece for a good very good article. I'll also pray God to keep you (and us) firm on the path of guidance.

Second, I'm almost speechless. I'm mighty impressed and glad that there are still Nigerians/people who have not lost all their sense of honour and responsibility to the so called 'modernization', 'civilization', etc. Surfing through nairaland at times, you wonder where the hope is for the future of the country (probably the world), you read the nonsense people write and opine in the name of freedom of choice, freedom of information, etc. However, the reality is that there is no absolute freedom as we all share this space we call earth and therefore, there are boundaries which should be respected.

To those who talk about judging or not judging, what is obvious cannot be denied and on the basis of what is obvious, we advise the living to thread a path different from that of this lady. One of the ways of achieving this is by not celebrating her. Is that too much to ask?

AutosHit And Run by nigonus(op): 10:19am On Oct 01, 2012
House members, good morning to you all.

I come seeking advise.

My car (with my wife and kid in it) was hit badly by another guy yesterday at Maryland just after the OANDO filling station by the church from behind badly denting the bumper and severely damaging the left rear light, as well as forcing me forward to hit another car in front, thereby damaging the right full light.

I alighted my car (after certifying my wife and kid were fine) and the driver behind was playing games - to take responsibility or not.

As soon as he knew I was going to involve the police, he got in his car and started to drive off, even while I was standing right in front of his car, not minding to hit me in the process.

I admit I was a little naive to let him know that I would involve the police, but I expected that as an elderly person, he was going to be more responsible.

Anyway, I got his car plate number and immediately reported the matter at the Area 'F' police station, though I'm not full of confidence that it will be resolved or resolved early enough.

Now, what do you think I can do to track this hit and run driver and at least get him to take responsibility for damages he caused.

This is the first time i've been involved in such and I must say it has been discomforting, including the fact that 'money no easy right now' to start engaging panel beater and all that from my pocket.

Kindly advise.

Many thanks
BusinessRe: No Going Back On Islamic Banking - Sanusi by nigonus: 3:04pm On Jul 04, 2011
The Hausa have a universal saying, ‘Gaskiya Daya Ce’, literally translated as ‘The Truth Is One’ or, more correctly, ‘Truth Is Constant’.
How else could one explain Jews fighting on the side of Muslims? For that is exactly what is happening in the Netherlands this week. The Dutch Lower House of the Legislature earlier in the week passed a law outlawing religious slaughter of animals. In effect, there would no more Kosher meat for religious Jews, or Halal meat for Muslims. The Jews are doing the fighting, as Binyomin Jacobs, Netherlands Chief Rabbi, has equated the law to ‘Nazi persecution’ (www.metro.co.uk/news/867866). Interestingly, there are less than 40,000 Jews in Holland, compared to about One Million Muslims. The Nigerian Christian clergy should please fight Rabbi Jacobs for fighting for Halal meat, which is part of the Shari’ah, like Non-Interest Banking.

Back in 2008, it was the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, who had advocated ‘for Islamic law in Britain’ (timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article3328024.ece). In a speech at the Royal Courts of Justice in London, the Archbishop had concluded: “, it seems that if we are to think intelligently about the relations between Islam and British law, we need a fair amount of ‘deconstruction’ of crude oppositions and mythologies, whether of the nature of sharia or the nature of the Enlightenment.
The Nigerian Christian clergy should please use their ‘crude oppositions and mythologies’ to fight the Archbishop of Canterbury for advocating for Islamic Law in Britain, the economic component of which is Non-Interest Banking.

Not too long ago again, it was the Vatican, no less, that put forward the idea that ‘the principles of Islamic finance may represent a possible cure for ailing markets’, in effect advocating for Islamic Banking, the topic of this week’s discourse. In a report dated March 4, 2009 on Bloomberg (bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=newsarchive&sid=aOsOLE8uiNOg&refer=italy) by Lorenzo Totaro, and titled ‘Vatican Says Islamic Finance May Help Western Banks in Crisis’ it was said: “The Vatican said banks should look at the rules of Islamic finance to restore confidence amongst their clients at a time of global economic crisis. ‘The ethical principles on which Islamic finance is based may bring banks closer to their clients and to the true spirit which should mark every financial service,’ the Vatican’s official newspaper Osservatore Romano said in an article in its latest issue late yesterday.’ Pope Benedict XVI in an Oct. 7 speech reflected on crashing financial markets saying that ‘money vanishes, it is nothing’ and concluded that ‘the only solid reality is the word of God.’ The Vatican has been paying attention to the global financial meltdown and ran articles in its official newspaper that criticize the free-market model for having ‘grown too much and badly in the past two decades.’ The Osservatore’s editor, Giovanni Maria Vian, said that ‘the great religions have always had a common attention to the human dimension of the economy.’”
The Nigerian Christian clergy should please fight the Pope for directly advocating Islamic Banking.

Islamic banking services are available in more than 300 institutions spread over 51 countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom (the same UK of Archbishop of Canterbury and the Anglicans) and Italy (the same Italy of the Pope, the Vatican and Catholic). In the US, the Michigan-based University Bank (universityislamicfinancial.com) leads others in Islamic banking, as well as an additional 250 mutual funds that comply with Islamic principles. In the UK, there is the appropriately-named Islamic Bank of Britain (islamic-bank.com). Islamic Banking is growing at a rate of nearly 20% per year and with signs of consistent future growth. Islamic banking has almost One Trillion US Dollars under management. The UK’s Financial Services Authority, FSA (fsa.gov.uk) says it “welcomes the innovation that Islamic banking brings and the diversity it facilitates, Having access to Sharia-compliant banking products provides financial services to people whose faith prevents them from using the kind of products that are normally offered by UK financial institutions.”

The Nigerian Christian clergy should please fight the Americans and the British to force them to close down their respective Islamic banks.
In the Bible, the only account of Jesus using physical force in any of the Gospels was against usurers and money-changers in the Temple, as reported in John 2:15: “[Jesus] made a whip out of cords and went around driving everyone out, he scattered the coins of the money-changers and overturned their tables.” Jesus was fulfilling God’s command where He says, in Exodus 22:25: “If you lend money to any of My people who are poor among you, you shall not be like a money-lender to him; you shall not
CrimeRe: Muslim Girl Stoned To Death In For Participating In Beauty Contest. by nigonus: 1:47pm On May 31, 2011
Hi everyone,
I'm not a regular poster here bar 1 or 2 posts I've made in the past.

First things first, I'm a Muslim and I've no apology for that. I also advise non-muslims to constantly review their faith and beliefs before this temporary life comes to an end.

Re: the story,
It is rather unfortunate what has happened.

Islam has made its law clear (without fear or fervor) - whoever is guilty of fornication (i.e an unmarried man or woman) is to be flogged publicly (100 lashes) while anyone guilty of adultery (i.e. a married man or woman) is to be stoned to death. Now these rulings have conditions.
1. That 4 witnesses caught them in the act (e.g. the fact that you see them both naked going into a room has been declared not evidence enough, you need to see the penis in the vagina performing the act). Now for 4 people to witness this, it goes to show the extent of open lewdness that the adulterers/fornicators must have displayed.
2. That the perpetrators confess to the act and they are judged to be in their sane minds and under no coercion.
3. Evidence of pregnancy (especially for an unmarried woman).

Back to the post -
What the lady has committed is obviously not adultery as defined above and so does not warrant that punishment.
Yes, displaying her body nudely/semi nudely is a disgraceful and wrong act and she should have been advised as such and counseled.
The boys are clearly wrong as the ruling were not applied under the appropriate conditions (those mentioned above and more).
May Allah forgive the girl (if she died a Muslim) and guide the hearts of the boys to the truth.

However, regarding linking violence to Islam.
That is just way too simple and convenient for anybody to do.
I'll ask - Catholicism/Christianity preaches child sexual molestation, right? It also preaches same sex marriages/homosexualism/lesbianism, right? and there are a whole lot of examples like that  (including, yes, violence)
The point is it is plainly wrong to use the actions of individual to define the structure of the whole.
Islam's teachings are clear, but that does not mean that it cant be misunderstood  or misrepresented by some for selfish gains.
We all need to be more open-minded and seek to know more by researching deep into history and not media/TV driven.\

This is my short contribution to this topic.
Whatever is correct is from Allah's guidance and to him I give thanks and praise.
Any mistakes are my shortcomings and deception from Satan who is forever cursed.
BusinessBusiness Opportunity - Sim Registration by nigonus(op): 9:16am On Apr 01, 2011
Chams Plc is one of the vendors contracted to conducted registration of SIM subscribers in Nigeria. They have been assigned Lagos state.

As part of its roll out strategy, the Project team is looking to engage business owners (especially owners of cafe, biz centers, etc.) as a sort of 'channel partners' in the project.

THE IDEA:
The idea is to engage biz owners who will subsequently employ and manage data capture personnel in a given region (e.g. Yaba LG).
Each biz owner after meeting specified requirements (becoming a channel partner) will be given data capture devices (laptops, FP scanner, webcam, small canopies, etc.). The channel partner will then be responsible for employing and managing data capture agents in their region.

HOW
The process is as follows:
- Channel partner specifies intended number of capture devices (i.e. number of agents he intends employing/managing)
- This is assessed by the project team (based on his competence)
- He is assigned the number of devices based on the Project team's decision

HOW MUCH:
the rate is ~ 29naira per subscriber record.
The channel partner will be responsible for agreeing his rate with the agents under his employ.
