Whaooo......the same thing happened to me early this year, I got a call from owerri also and the person's name is my richard. I was busy then so I sent one of my experience staff to Owerri. I monitored him through phone calls till he got the 419 people. All of a sudden my staff phone was not reachable for over 4hrs. Infact, I could not do anything again for that period. It was later my staff called me with a strange number and said the people he met said they won't release him unless he give them N200,000:00. I called and started begging them. They said they will not release my boy except they see alert. I later sent 30k to the account sent to me via fone.

The same story of not having drawing or plan for the building. God will help us.

I guess by now, a few phone numbers would have become apparent.
A few bank account numbers would have been used
A few people would have paid and can probably identify these criminals, if they see their faces again?

If we can forward these info to the security agencies, they can easily bait and track down these kidnappers.
It's just too easy for them to shake people down this way.

Same thing is happening in the situation of young men who are desperately looking for jobs, only to get scammed by unscrupulous "employment Agency"

I hope anyone or builder who gets a similar call does not keep it to himself.

He started the conversation by asking me to send jobs i had done in the past, which i sent. after few days, he called me back asking if i can come to imo for site investigation, which i accepted.

THIS IS PHONE NUMBER 08154806413

The first meeting should be in a restaurant and take a picture of them and post online..so if anything happens to you, you have a face to report to the police

...Mr Kingsley sent a text few mins after 10am. "Please can you go to Wethdral by MCC junction, from there take a cab to UMUORI and stop at Obi Motors. Call me when you get there" The text reads. I was thinking of precautionary measures to take when Mr Kingsley called to confirm if I had gotten his text.

Me: Should I come right now?

Mr Kingsley: Yes please! I have personal business to attend to.

Me: The thing is I told Oga I have a couple of friends in town whose contact I just got. They are on their way here already.

Mr Kingsley: You can send them the address na(losing the THIN voice). The site is a walking distance from Obi Motors, let me just show you and go attend to my business. You guys can locate one another when they get there. Please come right away! I'm late already for my business.

Me: Alright Boss.

I left the hotel and stopped an empty tri-cycle across the road. Bargained with the driver to take me to UMUORI. He agreed after a little protest the place being far away.

I took my seat behind him. Driven in style! GLOing with pride! I'm winning a project after-all. I checked my phone to confirm the bus-stop. Obi Motors! Nice!! Mr David once mentioned the project is 4units na... I'd just use my profit to buy a Starlet Jeep or a Portable Hummer at the bus-stop. So easy! This is a testimony!!! cheesy

We got to the bus-stop after like 15mins and I instructed the keke driver to turn and park some 50meters after the bus-stop. My phone rang almost immediately. As expected, it was my THIN voiced Mr Kingsley.

Mr Kingsley: Where are you now?

Me: I'm at MCC junction now. Trying to find my way to UMUORI.

Mr Kingsley. Ok. What about your friends, how many of them are coming?

Me: My friends are just two and they are driving down. Probably they have others with them, I can't say. Is it important?

Mr Kingsley: Sorry. But who is going to get here first? Your friends or you?

Me: I don't know. They said they are almost there the last time we spoke. Let me confirm and call you back Boss.

Mr Kingsley: Please do. I'm seriously late now.

I waited for some 5mins before I called back.

Me: Boss, my friends are at the bus-stop now but they can't seems to locate you. What cloth are wearing? So I can pass the info.

Mr Kingsley: How many are they? I'm with a friend at the third street. Call me when you get there.

I ignored his question and dropped, but called back in less than a minute.

Me: I'm here boss.

Mr Kingsley: Ok wait for me there. How many are your friends and what are you wearing?

Me: A summershade Polo and a windspray Jean(God Bless Dulux) grin

Mr Kingsley: Which one be windspray! Are you the one with a back-bag?

Meanwhile, I can see a young chap with a back-bag at the bus-stop.

Me: Bros, I thought you said you are with a friend at the third street!

I dropped the call before he could defend himself and I called Mr David immediately. Behold! My Kingsley's THIN voice answered from the other end. "What did you say you are wearing?"

Oh really! I tapped my now impatient keke driver, "Nna, start this thing make we go"

Driver: Where we dey go now Bros? And what of the person you dey wait for?

Me: Anywhere but here. I've been longing to visit this city! Na excursion I con do for Owerri and you will take me round the city. Besides, where person fit see beta Nnkwobi at this time of the day?

Driver: Na Mama Oluchi place for that FUTO side but her Nnkwobi too cost.

Me: Let's go there. Today na my birthday!

He whistles happily. It's still a happy day after-all.....

Guy I de feel you. ..I like people being on the alert.

May God keep us safe from all these dubious people

Nairalanders can you belive this that the gang that robbed me of my .money, phone (iPad ) and others at Owerri are using my whatapp even after i had gone to an airtel office to block the line and even retrieved it. A friend saw this and contacted me. The attached photo is now the profile picture in use. Even though i can't categorcally say for sure if they are the culprits because it was getting dark before we met but there are some resemblance . The short and rumbust one looks like the "David " and the others have resemblance of the others that night . and they were four in number as they are here.
Iam posting this sso that every one should be on guard .

Seun, as the owner of the forum where this fraud is being engineered, is there not something that you can do using the powers of Nairaland?

For how long would one keep up using military folks as escort to seeing a client? I don't really think this is a good idea. This should be very simple if properly dealt with; DO NOT meet with people, particularly online folks in a secluded area. Best bet is meeting them in an open place, that way one could assess them and probably 'size' them.

This is not a normal case, so it is abnormal and should be treated as such.
Even if you meet them in a place like eatry and they joke with you, eat and say "i like your price, lets go and see the site", on the way, they can rob or kidnap the person. So do even think of it.
Owerri is not that safe.

Yeeee shocked shocked shocked shocked. Fear don grip me! I have never heard of this kind thing before. To go take measurements don turn something else. Thank God you are save.
A lady like me will faint severally if I just realise say na kidnap thingz.
As Hajji said, all this happened and everyone kept quiet. It would have been an eye opener for others and he won't keep using same trick for everyone.
People are wicked oooooo! Haba!
Na to dey carry escorts go see site remain o. grin
Henceforth, nothing like come and see if 30tonnes truck can pass the road to my site.
It's better to be alive and be broke than to look for more money and get killed because they could be disappointed if I don't have much in my account and do something else.

Wicked human being! cry

That's humans for you. While some engage themselves with things that can fetch them their daily bread, others are looking for how to steel from reasonable humans. I wonder if taking the easy way out is worth it. How I wish the OP noticed they were fraudstars from the get go and then went their with police (that's if the policemen won't even strike a deal with them there and have him (OP) arrested as the culprit. Anything is possible in 9ja.

What exactly can he do when in the real sense, some of those criminals aren't even active. Some are just visitors and not registered while the registered crooks are nothing but trolls on here..

The worst part of it all is, scamming unemployed graduates. No matter how evil one is, one should never do that. Even the devil will have some bit of sympathy for such set of unemployed. sad

I've seen loads of such scam ads back when I was hustling for job. Thank goodness I never attended any..

He can consult with security experts on solutions that'll work for him.

I have my own system that I use to vet on my site forums.

OK. But I still think it's more tedious doing extra work outside maintaining/building his franchise. I think it's we the users that need to employ measures to enable us identify such criminals. It wouldn't be a bad idea going to site with a security personnel (especially for those who can afford it). Also, with what I'm seeing here already, I'm considering pulling off from the internet and facing clients from the real world only. Reasons being the one of discussion and, there are too many fraudsters on the internet, making it very difficult for clients to trust the reasonable business owners on here.

I'm just observing for now tho. If it keeps being this way, then I'll strictly use here for just information acquisition and a place for relaxation, rather than for business.

And the worst part of it , the idiot fit dey here dey read dis thread, my advice is let the client pay into your account first for commitment before going to the site for measurement or quotes, go with either 2 or 3 people and let them hang around while u go and meet the client, always gather enough details about the customer before involving in anything with a client , always keep in touch with your families and friends , I knew how I handled my recent client whose location was far from mine and he gave all details of his even before I agree to take the next move with him, always take your time to gather enough info before going to meet your client . May God protect us, Let's be more conscious and alert. God bless Nairaland and bless Seun
I quite agree with you.Let every one be safety conscious.May God protect everyone.Amen.
