You had a bag of beans and won the league, you offloaded a bag of beans and bought a bag of Okpa and won the FA cup, finishing 5th, once again, the difference is clear, 7up

How do you like your Ls sir? Hot or Cold? Would you also like some ice bLocks accompanied with them?
You won 3 trophies last season

you bought bag of beans and finished trophiless

I won 1 trophy last season

I sold bag of beans and still won 1 trophy.

You see the word 'won'? it's the exact opposite of 'loss'.

If you're trying to troll on this one, you failed completely..like a bag of beans grin

I don't really follow Serie A so I don't know what to expect

Napoli played very gungho football in the couple times I saw this season so maybe he might be good for Hazard.

The main thing I need is a badass right winger, a bad ass forward. A bad ass central midfielder. A bad ass right back. A bad ass Centre back, and maybe a bad ass keeper.

in other words, our team is pretty shït right now relative to the top 6 competition

DDG has not won POTY again at your club because he barbed new haircut.

He won it because bag of beans in front of him was constantly letting him down and allowing a tom, dick and Morata to shoot at his goal uncontested.

Anyway the fact remains that you bought bag of beans and finished trophyless

I offloaded bag of beans and won a trophy while beating bag of beans senseless twice in the season.

Turn that J around. Na DopeLemi be your name now

For the bolded, Are you the new Lai Mohammmed?

He can't score his PK all the time, especially because he always goes first.

His last 4 tournaments for argentina;

1. Copa america 2011 versus Uruguay,
He goes first and scores, others fucck up.

2. World cup 2014 versus the Netherlands,
He goes first and scores, others fucck up.

3. Copa america 2015 versus Chile,
He goes first and scores, others fucck up.

4. Copa america 2016 versus Chile,
He goes first and misses, others still fucck up.

The only thing left 4 Messi to do is to help the entire argentinean squad fucck their wives properly.
The point is that they got him to the final multiple times and messi bleeped up

because effort without talent and skill is tantamount to mediocrity.

for the first part of your statement,

that's my very point actually,
they only didn't have messi,

if that set of midfielders had messi, and messi had that set of midfielders,

the world cup would be in buenos aires.
what kind of wack yarns is this?

First set of midfielders never achieved anything

Second set of midfielders took Messi to a final, only for him to do this:

Yet he was runner-up for the best player on the continent twice.. Bros, you are not being honest. It is like saying Xavi was not one of the world best players even though he was 3rd multiple time.
I'm not being dishonest here.

How can you be top of the game as a runner up? That's an oxymoron.

Xavi wasnt the best player in the world...he was however the top midfielder in Europe.

If you told me Xavi was at the top of the European game in his peak, I would also reject that. If you said he was the top midfielder however...

JayJay wasnt even that. Never the top player generally or top guy in his niche. He wasnt even the top guy in super eagles.

I remember the very first time I heard the phrase 'play to the gallery', it was used to describe JayJay.#

I dont want to muddle this discussion up cos I feel like ive strayed a bit.

My point remains that if you compare Okocha's career to his team mate like Kanu for example, it becomes immediately apparent that JayJay was a massive underachiever...and this was due to his indiscipline on(and reportedly off) the pitch.

Okocha was the 2004 Nations cup best player, he also won the Golden boot in that competition.

He was runner-up APOTY twice and won the BBC African Footballer of the Year twice.

He has been at the top of the game in Africa.
Please dont mention BBC african award.
Thats an award that's open to the voting public like BB Naija, not an award that is judged by football experts

Even that golden boot award was won on a technicality tbh, as he wasnt the only player to score 4 goals in that tourney

JayJay has never been at the top of the game in africa. He was a ball juggler and entertainer...not a footballer. He could have been, but he never was.

Nope, the same Frankfurt...

Before they were relegated, what were their positions?

3rd
4th
3rd
3rd
5th
9th
17th (relegation season)

Can you see what i am talking about? They were regular contenders before the slip and that ws because they sold some of their better players..

Throughout Okocha's stay in PSG, they played a European competition. I believe they were 2nd once.
3rd isnt a 'title contending position' but for sake of this discussion, I will concede the point/

JayJay was there for only the last 4 of those seasons, I can see a steady decline

3rd
5th
9th
Relegation

I'm not making a direct correlation and blaming JayJay for that slump in fortunes

I'm only making the point that during his tenure at the club, Frankfurt were NOT a top top team. Not a team challenging for honours. At best a top half team. And this of course in a 18-team league.

Bros, you are reaching and clutching at straws.

How many people today know about the Van Basten, Zico, Gerd Muller, etc? If you are not Pele or Maradona, only football people will know you. Anyone with a knowledge of football knows Jay-Jay.
There are certain things that guarantee immortality in the game - Trophies, and individual honours.

You're right that as we grow older, the memories fade. The records however dont.

100 years from now, a kid using the google equivalent of that era could be looking through a list of EPL winners and find Yaya Toure. Or perhaps via a list of past APOTY winners. Maybe UCL past winners.

To find jayjay, the same kid will need to have either arcane knowlegde, or may have to rely on blind luck to stumble accross his clips on that era's equivalent of youtube. Career wise, there are simply no trophies or awards alluding to the great talent he posessed.

This is a man who could have had it all...but didn't due to a nonchalant attitude to tactical football.

I'm not mad at that...just calling it as i see it

Okocha was playing in Europe with Eintracht Frankfurt, Fenerbache and PSG. Eintracht Frankfurt was a top 5 side in Germany when Okocha was there.

In fact, Bolton was the first time Okocha was playing for a club that was not fighting for the league title.
.

I think you're mistaking Eintracht Franfurt for another club. Okocha was actually relegated with them. Apart from 1992 when they came 3rd, they never challenged for any league title. Btw this was the time when only the league winners qualified for UCL, so a 3rd place finish wasnt as important as it is today.

Also when he was in france, PSG were also not the PSG of today. That was the era of Lyon winning 6 or 7 straight league titles, and PSG neither challenged for, nor won a pin when JayJay was there.

Infact JayJay was discharged by PSG for free...aged 28, after being signed for 14m...and in a world cup year no less. The only club willing to take a chance on him were a freshly promoted club to the EPL.

We may look back at history with rose tinted glasess today, but sir, that man did not have the career he could have.

This is false..

Okocha is well known globally. I have asked by strangers in the US about Okocha, Kanu and even Amokachi.
I will hazard a guess and say the people asking about Okocha were not younger than 25.

And the fact that they are asking rather than discussing rather bolsters my point...

I doubt you will go to Poland today and start 'asking' about Lewandowski.

Lies, fat lies. A globally recognised football icon. Of all the guys you mentioned there only Kanu and Oliseh comes close to the appeal Jay Jay still commands globally today.
If you weren't Nigerian or aren't of a certain age bracket (25 and above) you probably wouldn't even have heard of him.

The club's he played for were entrant Frankfurt, fernabache, psg, Bolton and hull.

you'd need to have pretty niche football knowledge to know a player who played at these middling clubs in the 90s and mid naughties.

Spot on by Maradona.

On the contrary to what you guys say, this is the first time in a decade Maradona has made valid points without seeming to be YUI

Yarning Under the Influence.

Higuain only has another chance because Icardi seems to have a very torrid time accommodating his diick in his drawers.

Remember when argentina had in midfield;

*Pablo Aimar.
*Ariel Ortega.
*Sebastian Veron.
*Diego Simeone.
*Roman Riquelme.
I remember that these guys won nothing.

Didnt even get to a single final.

*Old man Mascherano.
*Mediocre Lucas Biglia.
*Average Ever Banega.
*Useless Enzo Perez.
These guys got to two consecutive finals. TWO

But Messi thwarted their every effort.

It's good you mentioned thst it was one of the reasons, not the only reason.
I've also provided some context to Yekini's AFOTY win. There were two winners that year - The original award by France Football went to Abedi Pele. Yekini got his own in parallel...but that's beside the point.

Former African footballer of the year?
Second highest goal scorer in AFCON history.

Oga, make you fear God o
Yekini was a local champion

Yekini only won that award due to a format change that allowed there to be two awards that year

The AFOTY award he won wasnt the one awarded by France Football( The magazine which originally invented the award in the 70s, and also invented the Balon D'or)

Yekini won another AFOTY awarded by a magazine that doesnt even exist today.

I'm not trying to trivialise his achievements, i'm only setting some context.

Football as you know is a game of demand - if you are that good, the big clubs will come in for you. And Yekini never played at a big club...not even a mid level club.

I see no real difference between Yekini's career and someone like Emenalo's to be perfectly honest.

Even the great Ronaldinho acknowledged he got inspiration from JJ let alone other Nigerian players.

Like Okocha or not he remains one of Africa's greatest.
bruv the peak of his career came at Bolton ffs.

compare JayJay to his mates like Finidi, Kanu, Oliseh, Ikpeba etc and you'll notice that he never even played at clubs at the same level these guys at their peak.
