I have never heard of ibibio being an ofshoot of igbo.

the languages don't even sound alike. ibibio and efik languages are similar a little _{i understand some efik but can't speak it}. There are also a few languages that are similiar to ibibio a little but they are not igbo.
Ibibio is one of the languages in Akwa Ibom. while Efik is one of the languages in Cross River. Cross Rivers and Akwa Ibom used to be one state, until the late 80's or early 90s _{can't remember}, before it was split into two.

We have different food too from the igbos except the ones that are common to most other southern Nigerians.

if it makes you feel any better. most people from the west and northern parts of nigeria call ibibio people igbo people. which is false.
