Ogun students hail Rep member, Isiaka, for qualitative representation

The National Association of Egba Students (NAES) has commended the 'qualitative representation' of the member representing Ifo/Ewekoro Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Hon. Ibrahim Ayokunle Isiaka.

The students specifically hailed Isiaka for facilitating the grading of series of Trunk C roads connecting different villages and communities within his constituency.

They made thier position known in a statement signed by its Acting National President, Comrade Onifade Emmanuel, in Abeokuta on Wednesday.

The association, however, urged the lawmaker to extend his humanitarian gestures towards the provision of bursary, donations, grants as well as scholarships to students in his constituency.

The statement read in parts, "the National Association of Egba Students having painstakingly scrutinized the activities of Hon. Ibrahim Ayokunle Isiaka EASYLIFE, the Honourable representing Ifo/Ewekoro Constituency at the Federal House of Representative, it becomes imperative for us to commend the giant strides he has been able to achieve at the Green Chamber.

"Just earlier this week, we had received the good news that grading work have started on a series of Trunk C roads connecting different villages/communities within his Constituency through the facilitation efforts of Hon. Ibrahim Isiaka.

"It is worthy of note that the these roads had hitherto been in deplorable conditions before this timely intervention.

"Upon completion, they will serve the good people of the respective beneficiary communities and their environs by easing movement of goods and people.

At this critical period, it is important that we remind Hon. EASYLIFE the need to extend aids via Donations, Bursary, Grants and Scholarships to indigenous and indigent Ẹ̀gbá students in his Constituency.

"While we commend his humanitarian and empowerment efforts, we charge him to consolidate on these by focusing on the Egba Students Community within his Constituency as there is so much more to do.

"This is essential in light of the current economic hardship being faced by Students across the country.

"As we continue to prioritize the welfare and safety of all indigenous Ẹ̀gbá Students across the nation, we urge all Ẹ̀gbá students to continue in conducting themselves in line with the 'Ọmọlúwàbí' nature of Ẹ̀gbá people."

Ogun APC chieftain, Adeola Sosanwo, denies alleged move to factional group

An Ogun State chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairman of SAS Foundation, Engr Adeola Sosanwo has described it as blatant lies, the rumour making round that he had moved to a faction of the party controlled by former Governor Ibikunle Amosun.

Engr Adeola Sosanwo described the rumour as being unfounded and the handiwork of some political jobbers and undesirable elements out to sell dummy to undiscerning members of the public.

Engr Sosanwo, in a statement, declared that he remains a member of the party under the leadership of the newly-elected Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, and had continued working and supporting Governor Dapo Abiodun, who had done enough to earn a return ticket come 2023.

He revealed further that his dedication and commitment to the success of the party beyond 2023 was already becoming a matter of headache for some people and that such people may stop at nothing to tarnish his hard earned reputation just to score cheap political point.

Sosanwo explained that “the truth however remained that I am a member of APC under the leadership of Chief Yemi Sanusi who is doing so much to strengthen the party and make the party continue governance in the state beyond 2023”.

“I also remained committed to the success of second term bid of Gov Dapo Abiodun who has done so much in all sectors; education, roads, health, housing, agric among others. The governor’s second term is not negotiable and we are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that this is achieved.

“I therefore distance myself from being a member of a factional group in our great party, APC. The rumour is satanic, from the pit of hell, possibly handy work of our detractors but they should remember that they have just failed again just as it was for them in the past”.

The Institute presented the award during a courtesy call on Dr Odedina in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta to raise awareness on its existence as well as encourage farmers to patronise professionals in determining the quality of Soil for Agricultural purposes in order to guarantee productivity and better yields.

The Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS) is primarily charged with the responsibility for regulating the profession of Soil Science in Nigeria.

It was established by an Act of the National Assembly in the year 2017.

The Act establishing it also establishes the Council of the Nigeria Institute of Soil Science and the Nigerian Institute of Soil and the Science Disciplinary Tribunal.

The Act stipulates that: the Institute shall be a body corporate and shall be governed by the Council and that the Institute shall, among other things, regulate the practice of the profession for Soil Scientists.

While presenting the award to the Commissioner for Agriculture in Ogun State on behalf of the institute, its South West Coordinator, Professor James Adediran said the Commissioner is well known to him as someone who is always working for success.

He said," Two decades ago, I have known the Commissioner and I am not surprised that what we see on Televsion showcasing the activities of this Ministry by his leadership were happening through him"

"For that reason, the Nigerian Institute of Soil Science notes that you are at the Vanguard of promoting Agriculture and making the state proud; making the Governor proud. We therefore contended that the stride of this man is worth appreciating to encourage him to do more".

Professor Adediran informed that the Soil Society of Nigeria recognised the problems associated with soil management and administration and as a result recommend to the National Assembly the need for the establishment of an Institute of Soil Science which the government embraced.

He speaks further on the essence of the Institute:

"We are not saying that farmers do not know about soil, but they should give full recognition to the importance of soil and how they can take care of the soil through the engagement of professionals".

" The Nigerian Institute of Soil Science have experts that knows about soil that can help the farmers to test the soil and interprete what is inside the soil for the benefit of the plant the farmer wants to plant"

A member of the Institute, Professor Jamiu Azeez while speaking on the role of the institute said it provides the following services:solving soil related problems that could emanate from Agricultural or Environmental activities, providing expertise In seasoned training on sustainable soil management practices for farmers as well as providing expertise in soil test for Ogun State Agricultural Ministry among others.

Speaking on the efforts of the current administration in the state to promote the best farming practices, the Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Adeola Odedima said since the inception of the Governor Dapo Abiodun-led administration in Ogun State, it had recognised the importance of good soil to Agricultural productivity.

This according to him had conditioned its resolve to invest in soil test, evaluation and management.

This is with a view to promote agricultural productivity and yield, knowing full well that using the right soil in planting is a primary prerequisite towards promoting agricultural productivity.

Dr. Odedina Said: "I want to tell you that the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun recognises the importance of soil to agricultural yield and productivity early enough. That is why, one of the very few jobs we gave out in this industry at inception was the job to the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training IAR&T to evaluate soil in the twenty local government area of the state".

According to the Commissioner, when the government received the report, it called a stakeholders' meeting to review the result and it was a surprise that the local farmers were complementing the result through their various submissions.

"This is to tell you that as government, we recognise the importance of soil. So,I can tell you that this visit is timely. And ,now that I know that the institute exists, and it is ready to carry out that function,we shall be working with you, either with investors or on our youths programme, so that we can evaluate our soil, so that we do not get caught in the area of non - productivity of primary production", he said.

While assuring the Institute of collaboration and support, Dr. Odedina:

"We now have the institute of Soil science that can partner with players in food and farm sector, so that we achieve food security. So,I can assure you on behalf of our Governor that Ogun State will partner with the Institute of Soil Science of Nigeria".

MAPOLY cautions lecturers against amplifying internal issues

The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta has appealed to members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) to stop externalising issues affecting the Polytechnic in the media.

The Polytechnic's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Oluyemi Ajibola said such action was targeted at embarrassing the State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun in bad light.

Ajibola while reacting to a statement credited to the ASUP Chairman, Babatunde Osifalujo accusing the state government of owing them November and December salaries, said MAPOLY remains a self-sustaining institution.

He noted that the state government is not collecting revenue from the Polytechnic which makes the institution self-dependent.

The PRO explained that, delayed in the release of admission for the fresh admission seekers by JAMB resulted in the delay of both November and December salaries.

He, therefore, urged the aggrieved union members to exercise patience, as the management is working tirelessly to meet their demands.

"The Governor has done more than enough for us in this Polytechnic. If not for the Governor's goodwill, many of the ASUP members crying foul now would have become jobless and be in the labour market searching for another job due to the wicked policy of the last administration by changing MAPOLY to Ogun Poly, Ipokia.

"The Governor in his magnanimity stabilized us by returning our status quo ante and gave us N200million in December last year to pay backlogs of salaries owed by last administration.

"Not only that, the management also took about N300million loan from bank to pay their outstanding arrears. If not for the fact that, we had a delay in the release of admission by JAMB, the new intake students would pay their tuition fees and all these noises would not have arose.

"The Governor is not the one paying our salary, because the government is not collecting revenue from MAPOLY. There is no issue in MAPOLY. Many institutions in the state are also having their fair share of salary delays. This is not peculiar to MAPOLY alone. Why do they always rush to the media to make noise all the time? I see that as an attempt to ridicule the governor."

Speaking on the delay in the appointment of a substantive Rector and composition of Governing Council for the Polytechnic, Ajibola said the appointments rested on the discretion of the Governor.

"The appointment of Rector and Governor is at the discretion of Mr. Governor. Before he can make these appointments happen, he must have seen the level of our preparedness as an institution."

MAPOLY about to collapse, lecturers warn Abiodun

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Chapter has urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to immediately intervene in matters ravaging the institution before its too late.

The union warned that the school is at the brims of collapse should the governor fail to intervene urgently.

The appeal was made by the union at the instance of the several unanswered requests already tabled before the governor for consideration and subsequent approval since last year.

The union decried the non-challant attitude of the government towards their agreed bargains including the convocation of Governing Council; domestication of the New Polytechnic Act; appointment of substantive Rector for the institution; immediate payment of over three sessions honorarium and subsequent stoppage to the accumulation of Part Time claims; delay in staff promotion and appointments;the issue of new minimum wage yet to be implemented in the institution, resolution to matters on pensions, entitlement and plight of MAPOLY Staff retirees and non-remittance of Union outstanding cheque-off dues, more importantly when the Union had kept to its own side of the bargain.

The union, while appreciating Abiodun's administration's swift responses towards earlier interventions, feel really betrayed by this act of the government for not heeding to those fundamental requests above saying the successful running of the institution largely depends on government yielding to those requests and timely as well.

According to the union's Chairman, Comrade Babatunde Osifalujo, "while we thought of giving time out to His Excellency on those matters, two years and six months is more than enough for any government to have resolved such fundamental issues. We therefore urge the governor to attend to these issue without further delay".

He further appealed to the government to reciprocate the good gesture of the union through intervention for the November and December salary of workers of the Polytechnic especially at this crucial season.

Ikangba, Olorunsogo residents beg Abiodun over bad road, flooding

Residents of Ikangba, Olorunsogo and its environs in Odogbolu local government area of Ogun state have appealed to the governor of the state, Prince Dapo Abiodun to use the window of this dry season to fix the Ijebu Ode-Ikangba road and help solve the problem of terrible erosion that has not only made life so difficult for the residents of area but also led to loss of lives in the past.

Unable to bear this pain any longer, the residents in their hundreds on Monday morning staged a peaceful protest on the road calling for the immediate intervention of the state government most especially now that the dry season is here.

The protesters were armed with placards bearing messages such as; “Gov Dapo Abiodun come to our aid, Ikangba road is terrible, don’t let flood kill us”, ‘Give us good road and drainage, our businesses are dying”, “Ikangba, Olorunsogo need your attention, Mr Governor”, “Give us functional secondary school, no health facilities at Ikangba” among others.

Speaking with the journalists during the protest, the Baale of Ikangba Community, High Chief Joseph Banjo said that the road has become a nightmare such that it has led to loss of lives, paralyse the economic activities in the area with heavy flooding that is capable of submerging the communities in the area.

High Chief Joseph Banjo said “we are out this morning to draw the attention of our governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to our suffering here. This Ikangba, Olorunsogo road is in a terrible state of disrepair, it has caused accident that has led to loss of lives, many of us can no longer do our businesses because when it rains everywhere is flooded and everyone will be stuck.

“Many parents have withdrawn their children from the schools here because those tricycles and motorcycles carrying their children do get submerged in the water. It is really a terrible thing, many landlords here have even turn to tenants in other parts of Ijebu Ode. We sincerely plead that Gov Dapo Abiodun will help to fix this road and help take care of the erosion problem too”.

He said “the economic importance of this road can not be overemphasized. Aside having the largest concentration of the fish farmers here, the road also serve as alternative route whenever the Ijebu Ode-Benin expressway is blocked. It is just wise the governor come to our rescue now, there should be no more delay”.

Giving another perspective to the challenge, the Chairman of Fish Farmers Association, Ikangba, Agoro axis, Mr Lazarus Okole said that the problem of the bad road in the area is worsened by the diversion of erosion coming from Molipa, Imowo Eleran, Erinlu areas of Ijebu Ode into Ikangba due to the ongoing road construction work in those areas.

Mr Lazarus said that ” what we have also observed is that water coming from Molipa, Imowo roads that are under construction have been diverted towards the Ikangba road and this volume of water is much such that everywhere is flooded whenever it rains.

“As fish farmers because Ikangba hosts the largest fish ponds in Ogun state, we have lost our investment several times to this water, in fact our business is as good as dead because our customers have refused to patronise us again because of this bad road and that is how it is for other residents here too”.

He said “aside fixing the road, the government should also instruct the contractor handling the road project to put very big and wide drainages on both side of the road, not just on one side as it is now because the volume of the water is much. We are also suggesting that the government should dredge Yemule river and divert the erosion there or else the water escaping from the drainages will flow back into the community and continuing causing the damage”.

Speaking during the protest, the Chairman of Community Development Association, Ikangba, Alhaji Awomosu Afeez lamented that the residents of the area are tired of contributing money to do some palliatives on the road saying that they have spent millions in the time past to make the road a bit manageable.

Alhaji Awomosu pleaded with Gov Dapo Abiodun to swiftly come to their aid and ensure that the hardship being encountered by all those plying the road as well as all the residents of the area become a thing of the past before the next raining season sets in.

Another resident of the community, Mrs Joke Adeyiga as well as Chairman of Campaign for Democratic and Workers Right (CDWR) Ogun State chapter, Eko John Nicholas called on Gov Dapo Abiodun to as a matter of priority ensure that the deplorable Ikangba road and the attendant flooding problem is fixed without further delay.

NANS asks Asefon to step down as President

The Southwest Zone of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has asked its National President, Comrade Sunday Asefon, to immediately step down having served a constitutional one-year in office.

The Zone D caucus of the association called for an urgent conduct of a national convention to usher in a new set of executive members following the expiration of Asefon's one year tenure.

The zone made this known in a statement jointly signed by Comrade Omotoso Surprise, Chairman, NANS Ondo JCC, Comrade Kehinde Damilola Simeon, Chairman, NANS Ogun JCC, Comrade Adeleke Quadri Abidemi, Chairman, NANS Oyo JCC.

The caucus argued that Asefon's tenure had brought untold regression to the association, hence the need for him to pave way for a more 'responsible' and 'ideological' leader.

The statement read in part, "the overbearing character and unending failures of Sunday Asefon as NANS President has continued to cause the organisation a national and international disgrace beyond packaging.

"We are concerned particularly because Asefon hails from our zone and used the ticket of our dear zone that is highly revered as the most ideological zone of the organisation to contest for the NANS Presidency.

"Having assumed office, the conduct and manner in which Asefon has managed the office has not only been demoralising but also directly opposite to what can be regarded as a product of the most ideological zone.

"The zone had produced several Presidents of NANS. In fact, the first president of the Organization, Comrade Sunday Oladele was a proud product of the South West Zone and the history of his productive and radical years as NANS President can be attested to by all lovers of history.

"Similarly, the first President of the first national body of Nigerian students, late Comrade Segun Okeowo, hailed from the South West zone of the country. Without having to mention several other products of the zone that have served the Organization diligently and outstandingly, the lives and antecedent of these two great men are evident enough to proof that our zone indeed is the most ideological zone.

"Unfortunately, the reign of Sunday Asefon has battered and shattered the image of the zone which if not quickly addressed, might be regarded as the representation of what the entire students in the zone are made of.

"Should one make mention of the numerous blunders and his inability to intelligently read prepared speech on national TV?

"How about his bad composure while appearing before the press or his reckless statements of proudly emphasising on social media that a Governor financed and supported his Presidential ambition in an Organization that should not be associated with partisan politics?

"These and many other pathetic actions of Asefon has called for a serious concern as it badly represent what the Nigerian students in the south west zone are capable of intellectually.

"The glad thing however is that younger elements from the zone have continuously shown that Asefon is just an example of a rotten egg in the midst of golden eggs.

"For instance, videos of two young pupils of a primary school in Osun surfaced on the internet in which the pupils intelligently and smartly presented their campaign manifesto in a sound manner before their colleagues, parents and teachers.

"These videos, gladly has shown the rest of the country that the south west zone remains the source of intellectualism and that there is hope for a better future. It is rather sad that we have to compare a supposed intelligent President of NANS to primary school pupils as it would be a ridicule of our secondary school students to compare Asefon with them.

"Essentially, the cooperation of all zones of NANS is needed to save our organisation from the negative and backward hands of Sunday Asefon. We in the southwest zone would have been happier should the tradition of NANS give us the opportunity to present another candidate for NANS Presidency at next convention so as to reshape the bad image Asefon has created for us in the last one year.

"As this is impossible, the leadership of the zone and the committee of JCC Chairmen shall continuously do our best possible to distance the image of our zone from the mess which Asefon has created for us until we have another chance.

"Be that as it may, it is expedient to call on other zones of NANS, and Zone A in particular as the zone to produce next NANS President to gear up their actions and solidarise with us in changing the bad narrative Asefon has given the Organization.

"We are glad that his constitutional one year in office has expired this month. Hence, we are enjoining Zone A and other zones to join in the demand for a convention for the purpose of change of leadership.

“Ours is not to lament, but to understand the revolutionary demands in our organisation at this critical period in the history of Nigeria.

"Therefore, we must come together to agitate for a change of leadership so we can have a progressive National leadership that can intelligently contribute to, and make radical comments on numerous national issues confronting our nation and not the uncommon silence or disgraceful representation which Asefon has displayed so far".

Ogun youths ask Osinbajo to declare for 2023 Presidency

Youths in Ogun State under the aegis of Ogun Youth Network on Friday called on Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, to declare for the 2023 presidential race.

The group noted that Osinbajo, having worked closely with President Muhammadu Buhari in the last six years, remains the best candidate to succeed Buhari, in order to carry on with the policies of the administration.

The group noted that Osinbajo, having worked closely with President Muhammadu Buhari in the last six years, remains the best candidate to succeed Buhari, in order to carry on with the policies of the administration.

The Chairman of the Ogun Youth Network, Oluwagbenga Odumosu said this while addressing newsmen, alongside members of the group, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Odumosu noted that Osinbajo, who hails from Ikenne in Ikenne Local Government Area of the state, has what it takes to govern Nigeria because of his “competence, experience, fairness, youth friendliness and open-mindedness.”

He said the group had zeroed in on Osinbajo after a critical review of the present state of the nation and those vying for the presidential seat.

He said “The diligence and exceptional transformation we always experience in the country whenever the President Mohammed Buhari is not around and his been given privilege to act as the President showed he is capable to transform this nation if given the chance. His rich profile isn’t just a make-up but one with high pedigree and as such considering that he’s more qualified.

“There is no doubt that we need someone who has what it takes to calm the tribal and religion crises we are experiencing in the country. One man who has showed that he has the capacity is Prof Yemi Osinbajo because he has proved it over the years that he is neither a tribal bigotry nor a religion fanatics. He is always open to all sides without any sentiment which is borne out of his profession. Despite being a pastor he had continually promoted religion tolerance and harmony in the country.

“The points highlighted are few out of many reasons we are calling on the vice president Prof. Yemi Osinbajo to please throw his hat into the ring to contest for the President come 2023. As we do not need a soothsayer to tell us that Prof Yemi Osinbajo is the beacon of hope for the Nigeria future.”

He alleged that some political jobbers “are trying to tarnish the image of VP because they know it won’t be a business as usual if he emerges as President.”

The Chairman said “we must sound a note of warning to some perpetual political jobbers in the South West who are planning to defame the vice president despite his unblemished antecedents, we can only warn then to desist as it won’t be business as usual for them as the progressive Youths in the country won’t stop at nothing to fight l and stop them.”

Ogun Speaker advocates strong sports policies in Nigeria

The speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olakunle Oluomo has said that it would take a whole lot of things to change for the country to regain its place among the biggest sporting nations of the world.

According to Oluomo, Nigeria has to return to grassroots to discover talents and then employ well trained coaches to nurture them and bring out the champions in them.

Oluomo who was a guest speaker at the opening ceremony and Lecture of the 2021 Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Ogun State Chapter week, spoke through his representative, Ogbeni Kola Ishola.

While speaking on the theme “Quality Legislation Towards A Sustainable Sports Policy in Nigeria”, he said the nation needs a solid sports policy.

He believes the country needs the return of the NSC to move the sector forward.

He suggested that the only way the country’s sports could return to its days of glory was for the Sports Commission to be reintroduced into the Sports Ministry with experts constituting the board.

He said, the implementation of the existing laws on sports in Ogun state remained a challenge to achieve the desired results.

He, however, reaffirmed the commitment of the 9th Assembly to quality legislation that would enhance sports development in the state.

He maintained that, the development of sports is everybody’s responsibility.

Oluomo said that all hands must be on deck to ensure sports development in the state and the country at large.

In his words, “Quality legislation has to be sustainable to be able to adapt to what is already on ground. Sports has Stakeholders like athletes, administrators, writers (Journalists), sports associations, and International federations.

“For Ogun State House of Assembly, the norm is to adopt the bottom-top approach. SWAN can locate an area of concern and take it to the house via a member of the House of Assembly. Quality legislation, implementation, maintenance of sports facilities, and the Nigerian factor are different things altogether. With all hands on deck, sports development will be a reality in Ogun State and Nigeria.”

Meanwhile, Ogun State government has stressed the need for sports writers to embark on more developmental programmes that would assist the state in raising strong sportsmen and women from the untapped abundant resources across the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Odusile stated this while declaring open the 2021 Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN week in Abeokuta.

Alhaji Odusile who is the Chairman of the occasion, acknowledged the importance of sports towards building a virile society, stressing that the business of sports development should not be shouldered on government alone but a collective responsibility.

Alhaji Odusile encouraged the leadership of the association in the state to give priority to the capacity building of members apart from organizing competitions.

He equally reaffirmed the state government's determination to use sports as instrument to promote, empower and take youths away from criminal acts in an efforts to put them on the right track.

In his welcome address, the SWAN Chairman in the state, Alhaji Hakeem Akintunde noted that appropriate legislation would enable the younger generation to participate in sports without fear.

Alhaji Akintunde gave the assurance that the association would not relent in its efforts to ensure the development of sports in the state through regular interaction with stakeholders in the sector.

Who is after Akinrun-elect, Prince Olalekan Alkadiri?

Yoruba cultural heritage pride itself in having highly refined traditional way of life when it comes to monarchical activities, kingship and others, This is encompassing many aspects of customs, traditions and the intangible aspect of a cultural heritage.

Every town in Yoruba land has procedures and customs followed in selection of monarch, because monarchical activities of Yoruba Kings touch aspects of traditional, religion and spirituality and their functions in the life context of the Yoruba cultural heritage.

Recently, as custom demands the a voting pattern was conducted for the vacant stool of Ikirun in Osun State which produced a young, vibrant and intelligent Oba elect in person of Prince Yunus Olalekan Alkadiri.

Shortly after the process which was reported to have been supervised by all the stakeholders including the christian association of Nigeria, CAN chairman in Ikirun, Solomon Adewuyi and the chief Imam of Ikirunland, Alhaji Yunus Balogun, campaign of calumny started to spread by wildfire against the personality of the Oba elect and referred chief Imam orchestrated by a thought to be reputable media platform known as Agunbe voice.

For necessary clarifications, the concerned citizens of Ikirun after due investigation realized that the news being circulated by Agunbe news credited to the chief Imam discrediting the process that produced Olalekan Alkadiri as the Oba elect was nothing but false and vague imagination of the writer and such must be discarded and not accord any relevance.

To this end, an appeal has been put forward to naysayers not to sabotage the will of God and that of the people as well not to truncate the peace and prosperity of Ikirun land

Concerned authority as well as security operatives were being put on alert to deal decisively with anybody irrespective of position of authority whose intentions are to portray Ikirunland in a bad light

They noted that it is the duties of every ruling house head (Mogaji) to present capable and credible princes before the kingmakers for final decisions of traditional king that will pass through the rites of kings' installation for the throne of his forefathers as a leader with symbol of authority for the people.

Among the criteria needed in every presented princes is his past records including medical records, his responsibility in the town, readiness to tackle peoples agitations with solutions, his acceptability by the people of the town and Olalekan Alkadiri was unanimously chosen, so why the wailing?

After meeting these criteria, kingmakers are to conduct spiritual check on presented candidates for the stool inline with their faiths, then come to a centerpiece in choosing the elected one among the princes".

The group also reiterated that with the current state of the town, what Ikirun need is a young, vibrant, brilliant and energetic king who can propel the town to greatness.

They however, appeal to the state government to compel the kingmakers to act according to peoples belief in selection process rather than voting.

They also appease to the people of Ikirun to embrace peace and call on elites to intervene on the matter than folding hands of less concern.

They thereafter prayed for Gods directions in choosing the right king for the town the kingmakers, not loosing sight of prayers for progress and development for the town.

APC chieftain, Odunowo, backs Tinubu's presidential bid

A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Otunba Abayomi Odunowo has thrown his weight behind the presidential ambition of the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This is just as he described Tinubu's bid as a rescue mission to save Nigeria from imminent collapse.

He made the declaration while speaking with newsmen ahead of the inauguration of a political pressure group, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu Support Group, AATSG.

Odunowo, a one time gubernatorial aspirant of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, said given the current political and economic realities presently facing Nigeria, Tinubu is the best candidate for the APC to sustain the gains made so far by the party and lead the country into the future.

He noted that having being at the forefront of the struggles for the enthronement of democracy in 1999 and given his stellar performance as a two term governor of Lagos, the commercial capital of Nigeria, Tinubu has the wherewithal to challenge for the presidency and emerge victorious.

He said the rescue mission was for the common man to feel governance irrespective of where they come from or their political leanings. According to him, Tinubu, if elected president, will put the round peg in the round hole.

Odunowo, who served as the Senior Special Assistant in Ogun State under the administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun warned that if APC makes any mistake of choosing another candidate other than Tinubu, the opportunity to consolidate on the gains made by the party so far may be lost as opposition party may defeat any other would be candidate except Tinubu.

Asked about his organisation, AATSG,'s strategy to mobilize support for Tinubu across the country, he said it was the goal of his group to knock on every door across the nation to let inhabitants of each house know why Tinubu is the best choice.

He confidently told newsmen that when dust of presidential election of 2023 settles, "it would be President Tinubu directing the affairs of the country."

He said, " Make no mistake about it , Tinubu is the right candidate for our party the APC and the best candidate for the country. Look around you. Check the background of all those jostling to be president within our party and even other political parties and tell me anyone that can match Tinubu"s experience both in public and private administration."

"The truth is Tinubu was at the centre of restoration of democracy back into Nigeria at great expense and threat to his life. He became governor of Lagos and set a standard that represents excellence. Successive governments are still implementing his master plan.

" That's a personality Nigeria needs now. A builder of men. Someone that has eyes for excellence. And we are ready, with the backing of our grand matron Iyaloja Folasade Tinubu, we will make it happen. AATSG is ready to knock on every door across this great nation to tell our people, to show them Tinubu"s track record, and we are confident of convincing enough voters to make him president.".

He said the official inauguration of the national executives of AATSG comes up on the 9th and 10th of December.

Smuggling: Ogun traditional rulers pledges support to Customs

Several royal fathers of various kingdoms in Ogun State have pledged support to Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) in a bid to curb smuggling activities in the state border regions.

The royalties gave this assurance while receiving the new Customs Area Controller of Ogun 1 Command, Comptroller Dera Nnadi who paid courtesy visits to their palaces yesterday.

During the tour, the Customs boss assured the royalties that his administration would prioritize collaboration instead of wars, encouraging the rulers to educate their subjects on the effects of smuggling on the nation’s economy.

Addressing the Council of Obas of Yewa Land, Comptroller Nnadi recalled that the people of Yewa were historically known as peaceful industrious traders, admonishing the leaders to curb the excesses of the indigenes especially youths who have taken to smuggling and attacking Customs officers.

His words: “I bring you greetings from Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd) and the Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, ACG Modupe Aremu. I’m not new to Ogun State and I’m not new to Yewa Land. I have been to the most of your palaces and here this Obas’ Council as Deputy Controller.”

“I’m here as a servant to serve Ogun State and Yewa Land. As such I’m your subject, NCS in Ogun 1 Command has one mandate to make Ogun the main gateway to Nigeria’s gateway to Nigerian economy. If Ogun is the gateway, then as leaders, you’re at the heart of it”

The Customs boss noted that Ogun State is ranked number 4 in the contribution of Gross Domestic Product GDP, after Lagos, Port Harcourt and Delta, adding that over 80% of this contribution comes from Yewa Land.

Nnadi stressed that the relationship between Customs and the people of Yewa Land must change.

“We need to change the way people see us because I’m one of you. Let’s change the toga of war zones and create a gateway where business flows and economic activities thrive. I’m happy that I’m talking to royal fathers who have the authority, royal and spiritual mandate to change that toga. I don’t want people to see Customs as the war zone anymore,” he said.

According to the Customs boss, the recent incident of two Customs officers being murdered in cold blood in Yewa Land shouldn’t be the norm. He, however, stressed that the community and its people return to the former years when the society was a peaceful place for trade.

“You have always been genuine businessmen, we should go back to history, know where we changed and address it. When investors read the front page newspaper and all they see is killing and war, no one would want to invest here. I’m here today to correct that narrative,” Comptroller Nnadi said.

On his part, Oba Akintunde Adeyemi, the Esolu of Iselu, Yewa North, urged Customs to desist from the brute use of force in dealing with indigenes.

“In my town there are between 20-30 Customs officers and they threat indigenes in an inhumane manner. Anywhere in the world, it is the way you behave that people would react. Please educate your officers to treat people well.”

“We are practically farmers here and petty traders. Some outsiders use our children for major trade and the you have educate your officers,” Oba Akintunde said.

Meanwhile, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Oba (Barr.) Jayeola Agunbiade, the Alagbara of Agbara, encouraged Customs to be more concerned with policing the borders to prevent smuggled items from entering the country instead of raiding shops and houses.

He, however, lamented that despite the huge contribution of Ogun State and Yewa Land to the nation’s purse, there aren’t sufficient infrastructure in the region even as he posited that Customs could also give back to the society via Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

“Customs officers can also approach traditional rulers when they want to carry out any major operations. We can give you information that would assist you so that innocent souls wouldn’t be affected,” he said.

The Customs delegation also visited the Agura of Gbogura Kingdom, Oba Saburi Babajide Bakare and the Alakin of Egbaland, HRM Oba (Dr.) Michael Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.

NANS seeks justice for murdered OAU student Adegoke

Vows to resist attempt to cover up matter

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), South West Zone D, has called on the Osun State Police Command to ensure that
due diligence is done in the investigation of the murder of Timothy Adegoke, an MBA student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile Ife.

The newly-elected coordinator of the zone, Olatunji Adegboye, made the call on Tuesday at a press conference in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The student body insisted that anyone found culpable in the murder of Adegoke, no matter how highly placed should be punished according to the laws of the land.

It further warned against subversion of justice and vowed to resist any form of attempt to cover up evidence in the investigation of Adegoke’s murder.

‘We want to unequivocally declare that the entire Nigerian students in the South West zone are closely observing the process as it unfolds and will not hesitate to take to the street if we smell foul play.

‘Again, we are closely monitoring the developments and we shall not hesitate to resist any attempt to subvert justice through every lawful means, including rally, demonstration and protest.

‘Most importantly, justice must have its full course so as not to set a dangerous precedence,’ Adegboye stated.

He condemned the increment in tuition fees of Ondo state University of Medical Sciences, (UNIMED) by the administration of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Adegboye described the increment as ‘anti-student, anti-public and unsustainable as it doesn’t reckon with the current economic realities of the good people of Ondo State.

‘Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State must as a matter of urgency see to the downward review of the tuition fee to avert any undesirable development between the government and Nigerian students,’ the
NANS zonal coordinator submitted.

CultureIperu agog as Adebutu becomes Seriki of Gov. Abiodun's town by Ninejaman(op): 9:58am On Nov 20, 2021
Former Member of House of Representatives, Hon. Ladi Adebutu has been installed as the Seriki of Iperuland on Thursday.

The installation, which was performed by Oba Adeleke Idowu Basibo, the Alaperu of Iperuland after the Moperes of the town had done the traditional rites.

Speaking with newsmen at the Palace, Hon. Adebutu said the Seriki position, which had it fair share of controversies, spanning almost 40
years is being resolved amicably with his installation.

"The Seriki of Iperuland is a gazetted office, it's a kingmaker position.

But, unfortunately there is a misconception that it is a Muslim Chieftaincy title. It is not but by name it sounds like that. It is a gazetted Chieftaincy position.

"Infact, it is a second ranking position in the Mopere institution.

Balogun is their number one position, while the Seriki is the second position.

"We are lucky because this is nearly 40 years conflict that is being resolved now and we thank God the community is coming to a peace resolution of this.

"For 40 years or thereabout now, the then Balogun passed on and a succession battled ensued.

A lot of conflicts emerged from that succession battle and that ended up tearing up the Mopere institution apart.

"The Mopere breaking up spilled over to alot of traditional institution as well. It spilled over into the Muslim community, and to the festivals.

"It affected the fabric of the town but to the glory of God, they now have the first opportunity where all the various Mopere now have a unification and they agreed that they will have one Seriki, which happens to be me.

"It is therefore my obligation to hold all these institutions together so that we can have peace and prosperity in the community", he added.

Dignitaries that attended the installation includes, Senator Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Chief Derin Adebiyi factional State Chairman of APC in Ogun State, Hon. Sikirulai Ogundele, PDP state Chairman, Barr. Taiwo Shote (Pepe), Mr. Rasheed Buruji Kashamu (Senator Buruji’s first son) and Obas from Remo traditional Council amongst others.
