In its UNFPA state of world population report, with the theme: “The power of choice: Reproductive rights and the demographic,” the UN agency revealed that 148.8 million Nigerians are under the age of 25. This is in conflict with the National Population Commission (NPC) figures which put Nigeria’s population at 198 million as early as April 2018. NPC Chairman Eze Duruiheoma said this in New York, the United States of America, when he delivered Nigeria’s statement on sustainable cities, human mobility and international migration at the 51st session of Commission on Population and Development. Said Duruiheoma: “Nigeria remains the most populous in Africa, the seventh globally with an estimated population of over 198 million.” He hinged the figure on urban population growing at an average annual growth rate of about 6.5 per cent. But, the UNFPA report added that 44 percent of Nigeria’s population is aged 0 to 14, while 32 percent are aged 14 to 24. The UN agency also revealed that Nigeria has one of the highest fertility rates in the world, with less than 20 percent of married women in urban communities using a modern contraceptive method. In rural communities, within the country, less than 10 percent of married women use a modern contraceptive method, UNFPA added. “No country can yet claim to have made reproductive rights a reality for all. Choices are limited for far too many women. “And, this means that there are still millions of people who are having more—or fewer—children than they would like, with implications, not only for individuals, but also for communities, institutions, economies, labour markets and entire nations,” the UNFPA report added. Nigeria’s population is expected to double between now and 2050. http://sunnewsonline.com/unfpa-puts-nigerias-population-at-195-9m/

Walk over for ELRUFAI Congrats to APC in advance, |
Oh, the new fad among the haters of
Buhari is, 'Why hasn't he visited Benue State?'
Ok, here we go.... * When more than 800 Fulani
people were massacred and their villages razed
down in Mambilla last year by some Taraba State
backed ethnic terrorists with thousands of them
currently in a refugee camp in Cameroon, they
didn't wail, 'Why hasn't Buhari visited Taraba
State?' * When more than 100 Fulani women and
children were butchered in broad daylight in
Numan last year by Bachama "militia", they didn't
wail, 'Why hasn't Buhari visited Adamawa State?'
* When "Fulani Herdsmen" attacked some towns
in Zamfara, Jigawa, Katsina and Niger states last
year, they didn't wail, 'Why hasn't Buhari visited
Zamfara, Jigawa, Katsina and Niger states?' *
When some Igbo notorious drugs gangsters
attacked and committed mass murder in a church
in Enugu State last year, they didn't wail, 'Why
hasn't Buhari visited Enugu State?' * When
"Fulani Herdsmen" attacked some parts of
Southern Kaduna last year, they forgot to wail,
'Why hasn't Buhari visited Southern Kaduna?' ***
But when Governor Samuel Ortom's well armed
Tiv militia carefully provoked and got an attack in
the name of "Fulani Herdsmen", which resulted in
the death of 73 Tiv people, all we are hearing
from bigots and the Corruption Alliance of
Nigeria is, 'Why hasn't Buhari visited Benue?' *
Even some from Rivers State who lost over 20
people from a church attack by Wike's cultists on
New Year night have joined in the wailing that,
'Why hasn't Buhari visited Benue?' Oops! I
thought they will, or should even wail that why
hasn't Buhari visited Rivers State! * Woop!
Woop! Woop! Take me back to just 4 or 3 years
ago when we patriots were lampooning President
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for not visiting Borno,
Yobe, Gombe, Adamawa, Bauchi and Kano states
when "Boko Haram" was uprooting towns and
villages in long convoys of military vehicles, and
when these same "Fulani Herdsmen" were also
massacring people and burning down towns and
villages in the same present Southern Kaduna,
Taraba, Plateau, Benue, Niger, Katsina and
Zamfara states, these same confused and
mischievous bigots were the very same persons and
groups defending and justifying why President
Goodluck Ebele Jonathan wouldn't and shouldn't
visit those troubled areas! Look, each time I go
over my collection of old newspapers I enjoy a
good laugh because of the intensity of lies,
mischief and hypocrisy that I see these days!
Benue! Benue! Benue! Benue.... It seems someone
has sacrificed Benue State as the new guinea pig
for the experimentation of the new war of calumny
against President Muhammadu Buhari after all the
death wishes against the man failed to make him
dead! Thank God all the calumny keeps failing....
The man keeps attracting record crowd numbers
every time he travels around the country in spite
of all the calumny and lies that he has destroyed
the economy! All Buhari supporters know that
there wasn't any economy in the first place, and
that it is now that Nigeria is creating its own
national economy, and that's simply because you
can never ever find an idiot among Buhari's
supporters! We all know the story of how we
(Nigeria) got here! A Hausa proverb says,
'Hassada ga mai rabo taki ne!' In English it
means, any mischief against a man of destiny is
fertilizer to his destiny! 2 facebook user.. Cham Faliya Sharon |
ATTENTION! My Anger With Goodluck Jonathan Brethren, before the emergence of Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as president, the likes of Ankio Briggs, Asari Dokubo, Opunabo Nkot 'Tariah, Ledum Metee, Edwin Clark etc were always on Television telling Nigerians and the world how the South-South has been marginalized by the North and the West despite her oil. By divine and metaphysical error, Goodluck Jonathan from the South-South, the presumed Nazareth of Nigeria became the president of Nigeria after President Umaru Yaradua's death in 2009. His emergence came as a joyous daybreak to end our age-long marginalization. There was a beacon light of hope for my region. Immediately, the Niger Delta struggle stumbled and died or gone Comatose. The Niger Delta activists mentioned above became Jonathan's spokespersons and abandoned the struggle. In 2011, Nigerians, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, Christians and muslims voted massively for Jonathan. Thereafter, administrative thieves were appointed Ministers and head of federal institutions... Convicted criminals received presidential pardon. Militants were given contracts running into billions of Naira. Impunity and corruption became the norm. All these and many more replaced the Niger Delta struggle for resource control. The need for constant electricity, portable water, good health facilities, good road network, massive manpower development etc went into oblivion. Even the recent Ogoni UNEP report that would have changed the live of an average Ogoni man was not implemented by their regional brother - president. Recall that NDDC was established by Olusegun Obasanjo a Yoruba man. Ministry of Niger and Amnesty Office was established by Late, President Umaru Musa Yaradua, a Northerner. Regrettably, this two federal agencies including NIMASA and NNPC became conduit pipes for Jonathan's Wife, Nyesom Wike, Deziani Allison, Godswill Akpabio and many cronies of Jonathan to rape and siphon funds meant for the development of the Niger Delta region. Credibility died. Equity died. Competence died. Due process died. Conscience died. And the Niger Delta struggle died in their son's hand. Former Governor Rotimi Amaechi, knowing that the South - South may not have the opportunity of Producing the President of Nigeria again cried out and they called him a betrayer. They fought him with federal might and pushed him out of PDP, a replicate of what Joseph's brothers did when they sold him to the Ishmelites. But today Amaechi is laughing because they pushed him to stardom. Even the East/ West road that was awarded by former President Obasanjo and inherited by Yaradua and later Jonathan is still not completed. Bayelsa State today does not have an airport or a strong federal government institution that can generate employment opportunities for Bayelsa youths. Even the 31 industries promised the Akwa Ibom people, none was built. Few months to the Presidential election, Ankio Briggs, Asari Dokubo, Edwin Clark, Nyesom Wike, Godswills Obot Akpabio,Tompolo Government, Kingsley Kuku, etc awaken the Niger Delta struggle. What a shame? What an irony? For five years nobody heard them because they were swimming and sleeping on money. When Goodluck Ebele Jonathan eventually contested and lost the 2015 Presidential election to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the APC, the House of Assembly of all South-South states became a compensation point for militants ( Former and Active). Everything was done with the police and INEC to ensure that cronies of Jonathan and his wife were declared winners of the governorship and House of Assembly elections in the South-South especially Rivers State, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa. And if Jonathan had won the last election and ruled for another ten years, there won't be any hope for the actualization of the Niger Delta Struggle. Go to Calabar Itu road, Oloibiri and other villages in Ijaw land and see the level of environmental degradation yet their son was president of Nigeria for six years. People are living a stone-age life over there, no land to build a house, no pipe burn water, no hospital, no school and no road yet some people will sit in Abuja and Portharcourt collecting billions of Naira as Champions of the Niger Delta struggle. As I pen down my thought, I know that we have eaten our cake and we may not have it back. We had the opportunity but we messed it up. If President Buhari remembers us, good, but if he forgets us, I will not complain. And those who has decided to go back to the creeks and mangroves of Niger Delta to resume the armed struggle and hostilities; should know that President Buhari has enough shoes to match them unlike Jonathan who had no shoes. Niger Delta will not boil, Tompolo should do the needful by making himself available for interrogation, if he is clean he would be left alone. George Udom Facebook user |

The aggrieved members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, under the banner of ‘Fresh PDP’ have announced their new plan to inaugurate what it called the authentic National Working Committee, NWC, of the PDP on January 22, 2018, to replace the Prince Uche Secondus led committee. The ‘Fresh PDP’ has its national secretariat at Asokoro, in Abuja, where the parallel NWC would be operating against the Prince Uche Secondus-led NWC which is operating at the Wadata Plaza, Wuse zone 5, also in Abuja. While speaking with reporters in Abuja, leader of the splinter group, Emmanuel Obi-Nwosu, said they would “fight to the finish” until the result of the PDP December 9, 2017 national convention which produced Prince Uche Secondus as national chairman was cancelled and a fresh convention organized. The Fresh PDP also said hence forth, it would not allow the PDP Governors’ Forum to function, arguing that the Forum was alien to the party’s constitution. Obi-Nwosu said, “Finally, the inauguration of the authentic National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party will take place on Monday, the 22nd of January, 2018. This is to enable all members of the NWC who travelled out for holidays to return. “Only organs of the party as duly recognized by the party’s constitution shall henceforth function as stipulated in the constitution. To this end, the hitherto oppressive and retrogressive anti-democratic PDP Governors’ Forum which is completely alien to the party’s constitution is hereby proscribed. “The recommendations of the well constituted strategy and Inter-Party Committee; which was jettisoned by the defunct National Caretaker Committee (NCC) of the party; will be revisited with a view to ensuring its full implementation. “No more shall our party entertain any form of list, whether unity or divisive. The party’s constitution shall be followed to the latter in the conduct of all future party elections. What happened at the Eagle Square does not require reconciliation but restitution. “What we are doing is to ensure that what was done wrong is done right. What we need in PDP now is thorough internal party democracy,” he said. source: http://dailypost.ng/2018/01/02/pdp-crisis-fresh-pdp-announces-plan-displace-secondus-governors-forum/

Buhari No Longer Popular – Senator Shehu Sani The President Said Nigerians are impatient. I disagree with this submission.Nigerians, especially the masses have demonstrated an unprecedented level of patience with this administration. The love of the masses for the President is beyond the usual and even stretched to hypnosis. The President is not as popular as he used to be but still command an appreciable cult follower-ship among the poor.https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10214792690271742&id=1260146433

Governor Nasir El-Rufai has granted clemency to 10 prisoners in the state and approved their immediate release. The Governor also granted pardon to Captain Idris S. Mohammed, a retired soldier and ex-convict, who completed his prison term in 1985. The governor’s action is based on the recommendations of the Kaduna State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy. Announcing the release on the occasion of 2018 New Year Celebration, Governor El-Rufai said it was customary to extend a gesture of compassion to deserving prisoners during New Year celebrations. The governor explained that he was exercising the powers conferred upon him by Section 212 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999(as amended) to order the immediate release of the inmates and the grant pardon to Capt. Idris S. Mohammed (Rtd). The 10 prisoners were serving jail terms ranging from three to six years with less than six months left to complete their terms. Those granted pardon for their good behaviour are: Habibu Iliyasu, Ibrahim Mohammed Ibrahim Auwalu, Abubakar Abdullahi, Shehu Usman, Ibrahim Stephen, Saidu Idris, Ashimu Danmutuwa, Kabiru Mohammed and Aliyu Yusuf. Malam Nasir El-Rufai also approved the recommendation to grant pardon to Captain Idris Mohammed to remove the stigma of ex-convict from him. source: http://dailypost.ng/2018/01/02/governor-el-rufai-releases-10-prisoners-pardons-one-ex-convict/

Nigeria would have approximately 20,210 babies born into the country on the New Year’s day. This represents the third largest population of newborns in the world on January 1, 2018, the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) said. UNICEF also said nearly 386,000 babies would be born worldwide on New Year’s Day, representing some 90 per cent in less developed regions. The agency reported that Kiribati’s Christmas Island in the Pacific would most likely welcome 2018’s first baby while the U.S., its last. Globally, over half of these births are estimated to take place in nine countries, according to UNICEF. These are: India, 69,070; China, 44,760; Nigeria, 20,210; Pakistan, 14,910; Indonesia, 13,370; United States, 11,280; Democratic Republic of Congo, 9,400; Ethiopia, 9,020; and Bangladesh, 8,370. While many babies would survive, some would not make it past their first day, UNICEF said. Stefan Peterson, UNICEF’s Chief of Health, said on Monday that the agency was challenging nations around the world to make sure more newborns survive their first days of life. “This New Year, UNICEF’s resolution is to help give every child more than an hour, more than a day, more than a month – more than survival,” Peterson said. In 2016, an estimated 2,600 children died within the first 24 hours every day of the year, according to the UN agency. UNICEF said that for almost two million newborns, their first week was also their last. In all, 2.6 million children died before the end of their first month, the global children’s agency disclosed. UNICEF said more than 80 per cent of the children died from preventable and treatable causes such as premature birth, complications during delivery, and infections like sepsis and pneumonia. Peterson stressed: “We call on governments and partners to join the fight to save millions of children’s lives by providing proven, low-cost solutions.” Over the past two decades, the world has seen unprecedented progress in child survival, halving the number of children worldwide who die before their fifth birthday to 5.6 million in 2016. But in spite of these advances, there has been slower progress for newborns, UNICEF noted adding, babies dying in the first month account for 46 per cent of all deaths among children under five. In February 2018, UNICEF would launch ‘Every Child Alive,’ a global campaign to demand and deliver affordable, quality health care solutions for every mother and newborn. These include a steady supply of clean water and electricity at health facilities, the presence of a skilled health attendant during birth, disinfecting the umbilical cord, breastfeeding within the first hour after birth, and skin-to-skin contact between the mother and child. “We are now entering the era when all the world’s newborns should have the opportunity to see the 22nd century,” Peterson added. Unfortunately, nearly half of the children born this year likely will not, the UNICEF official regretted. “A child born in Sweden in January 2018 is most likely to live to 2100, while a child from Somalia would be unlikely to live beyond 2075,” he lamented. source: http://guardian.ng/news/20210-babies-born-in-nigeria-on-new-years-day-unicef/

No fewer than 300,000 direct jobs will be created in Kaduna and environs when President Muhammadu Buhari commissions the Kaduna Inland Dry Port on Thursday, 4 January 2018, LEADERSHIP Weekend’s findings have revealed. The Inland Dry Port in Kaduna, LEADERSHIP Weekend has learnt, is to serve other states in northern part of the country even as countries like Chad, Niger, Cameroon and the Central African Republic. To this end, the federal government, the Nigerian Shippers Council and other stakeholders are set for its commissioning next week. Already, port activities have already taken off in the Kaduna Inland Dry Port, thus making it the first of such in the country. The port manager, Mr Rotimi Oledele Raimi, told our correspondent that northern businessmen, importers and exporters as well as their counterparts from Chad, Niger, Cameroon and Central African Republic could now consummate their transactions using the port.SOURCE: : https://leadership.ng/2017/12/31/nsc-targets-300000-jobs-pmb-commissions-kaduna-dry-port-thursday/
