The Oracles of GOD

Text: If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen (1 Peter 4:11).

Although the word “oracle” as used in modern times refers to a person through whom mediums or spirits speak, the older definition is however different. As used in the Bible by some Bible translators, the oracles of GOD are the words of GOD. The first part of 1 Peter 4:11 (the quoted text above), in the New International Version of the Bible states as follows, "If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. Please note the use of words “who speaks the words of GOD" in NIV and “let him speak as the oracles of GOD” in KJV. Let us look at another Scripture. Acts 7:38 (KJV) "This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us." Its NIV counterpart states thus, "He was in the assembly in the wilderness, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our ancestors; and he received living words to pass on to us." Note the use of "received living words" in NIV, instead of "received the lively oracles" used in KJV. The life-giving nature of GOD's Word is clearly stated in this passage of scriptures.

Also, the oracle in some passages of the Old Testament refers to the most holy place or the inner sanctuary of the temple or tabernacle. I Kings 6:5, 19 "And against the wall of the house he built chambers round about, against the walls of the house round about, both of the temple and of the oracle: and he made chambers round about: And the oracle he prepared in the house within, to set there the ark of the covenant of the Lord" (KJV). This same passage in NKJV reads thus, "Against the wall of the temple he built chambers all around, against the walls of the temple, all around the sanctuary and the inner sanctuary. Thus he made side chambers all around it. And he prepared the inner sanctuary inside the temple, to set the ark of the covenant of the Lord there." Please note the use of the word, "inner sanctuary" in NKJV, instead of "oracle" used in KJV.

Every believer who has been called into the ministry by GOD has been given grace to effectively function in that ministry (Ephesians 4:7). Ministers are therefore expected to serve one another faithfully and be extremely careful with the usage of these gifts. 1 Peter 4:10 "As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God." As pastors and teachers of the Word, our words should be chosen carefully because as 1 Peter 4:11 puts it, they are the words of GOD. The words of GOD are words of eternal life (John 6:68). As we quote and expound the Scriptures, we must bear in mind that these are the words of GOD that must be taught in truth. Doctrines must be built within the context of Biblical texts, while comparing Scriptures with Scriptures. We cannot add or remove from the Word of GOD. Ministers are warned against this in Proverbs 30:5-6 "Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." Revelation 22:18-19 "For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." Brethren, you will agree with me that these warnings, particularly Revelation 22:18-19 are very terrifying! But these are true, because they are GOD's words: He says what He means, and He means what He says. Blessed is he who takes heed to GOD’s words (Proverbs 16:20; Luke 11:28; Luke 8:21).

As ministers, we must avoid and run away from the path of sin, adultery and covetous practices. A path trod by Balaam the son of Beor, a man described in 2 Peter 2:15 as one "who loved the wages of unrighteousness", is a no-go area for a true minister of JESUS CHRIST. We must not through our teachings and practices encourage people to live sinful lifestyles. The Word of GOD must be used for what GOD has ordained it for: teaching, rebuking, correcting and instructing into doing the right things (2 Timothy 3:16). These are necessary for a believer's spiritual growth and wellbeing (2 Timothy 3:17). We must preach and teach the truth and not cunningly devised fables that are bound to perish. Paul told his Corinth brethren in 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 “And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified. 3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. 4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: 5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.” Brethren, the true gospel is the message of the cross. It is about JESUS, the One Who was crucified. This was the gospel preached by the early apostles.

The early disciples were not persecuted because they performed miracles, healed the sick, raised the dead etc. It was this gospel message of JESUS Who was crucified that made the Jewish religious leaders of their time to hate and persecute them. Acts 4:15-18 “But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, 16 Saying, What shall we do to these men? for that indeed a notable miracle hath been done by them is manifest to all them that dwell in Jerusalem; and we cannot deny it. 17 But that it spread no further among the people, let us straitly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name. 18 And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.” But the early apostles never listened to such an ungodly admonition by their religious leaders. They responded as follows in verse 19-20, “But Peter and John answered and said unto them, Whether it be right in the sight of God to hearken unto you more than unto God, judge ye. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

The preaching of the cross has always been and will always remain an offence unto them that perish, but unto us who are saved it is the power of GOD (1 Corinthians 1:18). We must therefore resolve, the stands of the modern world and carnally-minded Christians notwithstanding, preach the gospel of JESUS CHRIST, the One Who was crucified.

Let us always have it at the back of our minds that, when we follow GOD's divine order in proclaiming the gospel message, “GOD is glorified through JESUS CHRIST, to Whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.”

Happy Sunday!

GOD bless you all.

The Glory of GOD
According to Scriptures, the glory of GOD is the manifestation of His splendour and grandeur (1 Chronicles 29;11).  It is the beauty of His Spirit that manifests His holiness (Exodus 15:11).  The glory of GOD expresses His presence and awesome power.  As seen in the Old Testament, the manifestation of GOD's glory is usually accompanied by fire (Exodus 19:18).  As the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle in Exodus 40:34, 35 so also it filled the temple in 1 Kings 8:10-11.  GOD's shekinah glory was with and led the children of Israel throughout their wilderness journey into the promised land (Exodus 40:36-38).

While the glory of man is temporal.  It is like grass and as the flowers of the field that withers and falls away (1 Peter 1:24).  The glory of GOD on the other hand, is everlasting just as His words are forever settled in heaven (1 Peter 1:25; Psalm 119:89).  Believers should seek the glory of the One whose glory is eternal and never fades.  This glory is in His Son JESUS CHRIST.  John 1:14 says that "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth." JESUS CHRIST is the radiance of GOD’s glory as well as the express image of His Father (Hebrews 1:3).  The glory of GOD as manifested in His Son is the believer's hope of eternal life and glory (Colossians 1:27).

The glory of GOD emanates from His name and character. We have to give GOD the glory due to His Name and worship Him in the beauty of His holiness (Psalm 29:2).  The works and the creations of GOD manifests His glory (Psalm 19:1-3) so much so that those who refused to acknowledge His supremacy and Lordship are indicted: "For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; 19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.  20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse" (Romans 1:18-20).

The act of worship of GOD in His glory by a worshipper must emanate from a heart that is aligned with the heart of GOD (Psalm 24:3-5; 51:17; 66:18). Romans 12:1-2 admonishes that true worship of the glorious GOD begins with a total commitment to Him through the presentation of our bodies as a channel whereby the righteousness of GOD is manifested.  The true worshipper must resist the temptation to be lured into this present world system, thinking, values and conduct.  He must according to Romans 6:13, yield the members of his body as instruments of righteousness unto GOD.

I pray GOD to grant us the grace to glory only in Him and worship Him in the beauty of holiness in JESUS’ name. Amen.

GOD bless you.

Religion / Prophecies Are Not Infallible by Noahjo: 4:51pm On May 14, 2023
The Voice in the Wilderness

46: 05 – 2023

Prophecies Are Not Infallible

Prophecies are words from GOD unto His people. The Bible talks about prophets who uttered the message of GOD from divine inspiration unto the people of GOD. Although prophecies are divine inspirations, there are instances in the Bible where, for example in 1 Kings 22:10-28, 400 prophets spoke their minds and not divinely inspired words, while only one prophet (Micaiah) spoke by divine inspiration.

The Bible clearly teaches that prophecies are not infallible. This implies that prophecies can be with errors. The prophet prophesying could be under the influence of a satanic spirit or be outrightly possessed by such spirits, for example the prophets of Baal in I Kings 22 and damsel possessed by a spirit of divination in Acts 16:16-19 were not people of GOD. True prophecies must align with the Word of GOD as seen in the Bible. The Scriptures should authenticate every prophecy (2 Peter 1:18-21).

All prophecies must therefore be tested for genuineness vis-a-vis the following three criteria:

1. Conformity with the Word of GOD as seen in the Bible (2 Peter 1:18-21; 2 Timothy 3:16). Every true prophecy must be in tandem with the word of GOD: they should not go contrary to the word of GOD in the Bible, because GOD is not the Author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33). It therefore implies that the Spirit of GOD will not reveal to anyone anything that is different from what He has already said in the holy Scriptures.

2. Promotion of Godly living - true prophecies encourage or promote Godly living among believers. Just as the teachings of the Bible are useful for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness: that the man of GOD may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works (2 Timothy 3:16). In the same vein, true prophecies because they are from GOD must be able to teach us the truth, point us to what is wrong with our lives, correct us when we are wrong and direct us to do what is right.

3. The person prophesying must be living under the Lordship of the LORD JESUS CHRIST. The LORD JESUS said in Matthew 7:17-19, that good trees bring forth good fruits, while bad trees bear bad fruits. He said that it is impossible for a good tree to bear bad fruits and for an evil tree to bring forth good fruit. James reiterates this in James 3:11-12 that a fountain cannot send forth fresh water and bitter water from the same source, nor a spring yield both saltwater and freshwater.

A person whose life is not right with GOD cannot receive from GOD, because one's lifestyle is driven by the spirit that is at work in that person. The person who has the Spirit of GOD in him lives and walks in the Spirit (Galatians 5:25), while the one without the HOLY SPIRIT in him will walk in the flesh: he is carnally minded and cannot receive the things that are of the Spirit of GOD (Romans 8:9; Galatians 5:16; 1 Corinthians 2:14).

As we conclude this message, it is important to note that prophecies operate under GOD's will and not on the will of man. When the disciples were baptised in the HOLY SPIRIT with the initial physical evidence of speaking in other tongues, the bible says that the disciples spoke "with other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance" (Acts 2:4). Acts 16:6-10 states that the HOLY SPIRIT forbade Brother Paul from preaching in Asia and Bithynia, but led them to preach the gospel in Macedonia. Prophecies are therefore meant to lead the people of GOD in doing the will of GOD.

The New Testament Church must not be tempted to seek for spiritual direction through people who claim to be prophets or seers. Rather, spiritual direction for the New Testament Church must be sought through the Word of GOD from which all prophecies are confirmed.

GOD bless you.

Religion / Humility Is A Virtue by Noahjo: 12:08pm On May 04, 2023
Humility is a Virtue

Humility is a virtue and not a weakness.  Promotion which comes from GOD comes only through humility.  Proverbs 4:22 says that "by humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life."

Humility is a requisite pathway into entering the Kingdom of GOD.  JESUS our LORD and Saviour says as follows in Matthew 18:3-4 "And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.  Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven."

My dear brothers and sisters, does the LORD see you as a humble person?  Does He see me as one who is humble?  GOD, our Creator wants us to be humble.  While He loves the humble, He resists the proud.  Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble (James 4:6).

Let us pray to GOD to give us grace to be humble in JESUS' name. Amen.

Flee Sexual Sins

Text: 1 Corinthians 6:18

“Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.”

One of the most prevalent sins that has always been with mankind are sins that are of sexual nature. As can be seen in the Holy Scriptures, this sin had been responsible for the fall of many. It is responsible for the fall of many in our days and will still lead to the fall of many in the future. It was sexual immorality that made David, a man after GOD’s own heart to fall and would have fallen out of grace, but for his timely and heartfelt repentance (2 Samuel 12:13; Psalm 51:1-19). It was the sin of sexual immorality that led to the untimely termination of the ministry committed by GOD into the hands of Samson (Judges 14:1-2; 16:1; 16:4-21). But for the fear for GOD in Joseph and his determination to flee from Potiphar’s wife, he would have been included in the number of those who fell via this evil (Genesis 39:7-12). What would have become of Joseph had he succumbed to the wishes of Potiphar’s wife? What would have happened to the dreams concerning his being ordained by GOD to be the most prominent of Jacob’s children? Have we wondered what would have become of GOD’s destiny concerning him? Sexual sins are evil! GOD says to you and I, “Flee fornication.” Not just fornication, but also adultery, homosexuality, masturbation, pornography, and other sensual conducts. These and other degrading passions are considered grave sins in the sight of GOD. They destroy the soul. A person whose soul is destroyed has no eternity in GOD’s holy presence. They are a transgression of GOD’s law and will therefore place anybody who indulges in them outside GOD’s Kingdom (Rom 1:24-32; 1 Cor 6:9-10; Gal 5:19-21).

Many may not know this or is it that we pretend not to know, that the arousal of sinful lust in others through one’s appearance and mode of dressing can rightly be described as sexual sin. A lot of women who profess to be believers and yet put-on body-hugging clothes and other odious dress styles and appearances in the name of modernity or civilisation are indulging in Biblically unjustifiable conduct as their actions arouse in others, especially men sexual desires that cannot be righteously fulfilled (Ephesians 4:19; 1 Pet 4:3; 2 Pet 2:2,18). Be not deceived into believing that if you continually break fellowship with CHRIST by living in immorality your salvation and inheritance in the kingdom of GOD are still secure. Do not be fooled. No one can live for immoral gratification and still inherit the kingdom of GOD (Rom 6:16; James 1:15; 1 John 2:4).

Brothers and sisters, salvation without the regenerating and sanctifying work of the HOLY SPIRIT has no place in the New Testament nor does it have a place with our walk with LORD JESUS. Approving the immoral and perverted practice of others is as serious as the practice itself (Rom 1:32). This includes many who have pleasure (agree with or consent to) in the immoral actions of others as dramatised in books, videos and TV entertainment. Let us remember that sin is intensified in any society whenever it meets with no inhibition from the disapproval of others.

Those who profess faith in JESUS CHRIST and yet use the immoral action of others for entertainment and relaxation are directly contributing to the public opinion favourable to immorality and therefore to the eternal damnation of an indefinite number of other people. Such sin will be exposed and judged at the day of final judgement (2 Thessalonians 2:12).

Conclusion
Believers in CHRIST are called to be morally and sexually pure (Hosea 2:19; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 5:25-27; Hebrews 13:4). Purity means that we are free from all taints of lewdness and all acts and thoughts that incite desires not in accordance with one’s virginity before marriage or one’s marriage covenant after marriage. It stresses restraint and avoidance of all sexual stimulation or activity that would defile one’s purity before GOD. This includes controlling one’s own body in a way that is holy and honourable (1 Thessalonians 4:4) and not in passionate lust (1 Thessalonians 4:5). This Scriptural instruction is for both for the single and the married.

Think on these and it shall be well with you as you obey the voice of the HOLY SPIRIT. Till we meet again on this platform, I remain yours in CHRIST JESUS, Brother Michael E. Dike @ The Dayspring Ministries.

GOD bless you.

GOD’s Sovereignty & Man’s Personal Responsibility

Bible Text:  Romans 8:29
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

GOD the I AM, The Transcendent, Self-existing Eternal GOD is Sovereign.  He as the sovereign GOD rules in the kingdom of men and exercises His ruling power over His entire creation.  Daniel 4:17 states that “that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men”. GOD as the Sovereign One is the absolute beyond space and time, that is He does not exist within the limitations of human ordained concepts of time and space.  2nd Peter 3:8 states “But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day”.  His wisdom is infinite; none of His creations can fathom the extent of His wisdom.  1st Corinthians 1:25 says that “the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men”.  Brother Paul says in 1st Corinthians 2:7-8 “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:  8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory”.  The Sovereign GOD, although transcendent is also immanent.  All humans have His breath in them.  Genesis 2:7 says that His breath in us keeps us alive.  Acts 17:27-28 highlights that He is near us and within the reach of those who seek Him – “That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:  28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring”.

The Sovereign LORD has ordained that all men be saved as He does not want any human to be lost (2nd Peter 3:9). His will is that all men should receive His gift of salvation.  This gift of salvation is from GOD to all those who repent from their sins, forsake them and accept that the cleansing power available in the blood of JESUS will atone, propitiate and redeem them.  That person ultimately becomes born again through the acceptance of JESUS CHRIST as his LORD and Saviour (John 3:3-6; 1st Peter 1:22-23).  JESUS, the only Begotten Son of GOD came into this world to die for sinners in order to reconcile us (the entire human race) back unto His Father (Matthew 1:21; 1st Timothy 1:15). The One who did not sin, neither was any guile found in Him took upon Himself the nature of man, bore the sin of man on the cross and died for the sin of the whole world as the Lamb of GOD (John 1:29).   2nd Corinthians 5:21 states that GOD “hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him”.

The Sovereign LORD created all humans in His image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-27; 2:7).  This He did with a single main purpose, which is that those whom He has created in His image and likeness would show forth His praise (Isaiah 43:21).  Romans 8:29 declares that “For whom he did foreknow (that includes you, I and all humans) he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren”.  This passage which coincidentally is the main text does not mean, neither does it suggest that GOD has predetermined before hand those who will be saved or not be saved.  Rather, His salvation is available to all who call upon Him in sincerity and in truth (Joel 2:32; Acts 2:21).

GOD has not predestined anybody to spend eternity in heaven as some Bible scholars incorrectly interpret Romans 8:29 and 1st Peter 1:2. However, being the all-knowing GOD, He knows those who will gain the ultimate salvation.  The Sovereign GOD is the GOD of equal opportunities. JESUS’ death on the cross is for the salvation of the entire human race and not for the Israelites alone (John 3:16-18; Romans 5:cool. GOD does not sentence anyone to hell as long as the person is still alive and has His breath in him or her.  The door of salvation is always open to anyone who is still alive on this planet earth.  This fact is clearly seen in the case of one of the thieves who was crucified with JESUS (Luke 23:39-43).  We as individuals determine where we will spend eternity through the type of lifestyles that we have chosen: righteousness that leads to life or wickedness that leads to death (Romans 6:16, 23).

As we conclude this sermon, it is important that we remind ourselves that life will only be meaningful and fulfilling when one aligns himself with GOD’s primary purpose for his life: which is to honour GOD before the whole world (Isaiah 43:21 NLT). Achieving this primary purpose of life does not naturally come.  The reason for this is due to the presence of sin in a person’s life.  Sin hinders the will of GOD from being fulfilled in a person’s life.  The will of GOD can only be known through the knowledge of GOD and relationship with Him (Romans 12:1-2).  The process of knowing GOD and having a relationship with Him begins when one surrenders his life to the LORD JESUS.  As the HOLY SPIRIT comes into the new believer, He begins the work of transforming that person’s life.  As the new believer begins to cooperate with the GOD’s Spirit in him, more of the character of JESUS increases in that person, while worldliness, carnality and sinfulness decreases.  The more the believer yields to the HOLY SPIRIT, the more the character of GOD is formed in that person and the will of GOD fulfilled in his or her life.

GOD bless you.

Think Before You Vote

Fellow Nigerians

In exactly two weeks from today, we shall be voting in a new President who will take up the mantle of this country's leadership.  This presidential election will make or mar the existence of this country.  I beg of you in the name of GOD, vote for someone you know that is not handicapped and will be available to lead well.

Do not resort into religious or tribal sentiments.  Ask yourself, this person that I am casting my vote for, if I own a company will I be able to saddle him with the responsibility of running my company?  Remember, that Nigeria is bigger than your company.  If you can't ask him to head your company, then you will be doing this country a great disservice by voting for that person.

Do be mindful of your children and other young Nigerians as you cast your vote.  Do not allow money given to you in exchange for votes to becloud our collective desire to have a better and egalitarian Nigeria society.

GOD help and bless Nigeria.
