When I tell my driver that Tunji Okusanya of MIC is dead, I envision he will say, 'ah! man daada to ma'n fun mi l'owo yen!'(dat generous man!).

I walked into his office to invite him 2 Season2 of our show in 2010. We had never met but he hugged me.
He told me how he loved our show and how I would go far up the ladder of Success. I discovered that he liked to laugh a lot.


On the day of recording, he came to time and when we were done, he shared money around like a politician going to the polls. And so we would become 'friends'. More like Egbon (elder sibling) and aburo (younger sibling).

When my father died 2years later and we reeled in pain and confusion, his boys were there in 30mins with MIC's best hearse. Without a mention of money, they took my dad to the best morgue around and immediately started making plans for the burial.

In his office, he gave me my pick of the best coffins and asked me to bring any amount of money I wished. 'I could do it for free', he said, 'but I don't want you to bury your father in a coffin that costs you nothing'.

On burial day, he personally carried my father's body all the way to our village, Ajaawa, in Oyo State. He spent the night. Next morning, he danced in front of the coffin to and from the church and personally laid my dad to rest. He also stayed for the party after, 'spraying' money on us all as we all danced to Shina Peters, trying to bury our sorrow.

When I returned to thank him in his Lagos office, he was wearing a beautiful pair of slippers. Black and obviously costly. 'I like your slippers Uncle', I said. He immediately removed them and insisted I must take them there and then!
I protested long but he wouldn't budge. If you see me wearing a pair of Italian leather slippers, they are the ones.

He explained to me how life was just fleeting and how we should try our best to avoid unhealthy attachment(s) to anything. You see, having buried so many, rich and poor alike, he had a view to life dat was uncommon & probably wholesome in health.
He also agreed to come on our show for the 2nd time setting a record as the only Special Guest to have had that honor.

When it was time to get married, he danced behind me on the engagement day, wearing my colors and yes, sharing money again.
Not minding age, he threw himself prostrate beside me and my friends as we 'begged' for my wife in the tradition of the land.

He would call me up every now and again, always chuckling. 'Iyawo mi nko', he would ask? (how is my wife?) He was in the habit of saying to my family, 'I love you guys'. I am not sure I ever said d same to him even though I felt it.

And so I woke this rainy day as even the skies mourned and shed tears thinking 'surely if good deeds meant anything...surely if good deeds mean anything, this was a man who did not deserve to go thus. Surely not in this manner!'

But what do I know? I am just another traveller on this parched tract. Your work and Legacy live after you Uncle Tunji.

It is sometimes believed that someone’s financial worth can be deduced from the car they drive. Although somewhat popular, this assertion has been rubbished by the world’s youngest billionaire, co-founder and CEO of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg.

Some of his contemporaries or multi-millionaires and billionaires drive Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Rolls Royces, Aston Martins and Bugatti Veyrons, which come with hefty price tags running into hundreds of thousands of dollars and even millions.

Zuckerberg, 29, and currently worth $19bn, according to Forbes, drives an Acura TSX and a Honda Fit, which cost about $30,000 and $18,000, respectively.

His Acura TSX, is an entry level luxury sedan which uses a 2.4 litre in-line 4 cylinder engine. It can churn out 201 hp and 172 lb-ft torque and has a 5 -speed automatic transmission, which comes with steering-wheel paddle shifters for optional manual shifting. The car is quite packed with luxury features like leather interior, automatic climate control, a seven-speaker sound system, Satellite Radio, Bluetooth and HandsFreeLink.

Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984 in White Plains, New York, to Edward Zuckerberg, a dentist, and Karen (née Kempner), a psychiatrist. Even though, he was raised Jewish, Zuckerberg had since described himself as an atheist. As a junior student, Zuckerberg won prizes in science (mathematics, astronomy and physics) and classical studies. While most of his mates were busy playing games as young students, Zuckerberg was creating them.

In his early teens he created a music player named Synapse – as a school project – using some help from a friend, which used artificial intelligence to understand one’s taste in music and created a playlist accordingly. Software bigwigs like Microsoft and AOL tried to buy it and even recruit Mark. But he refused both. Instead, he went to Harvard in 2002. On February 4, 2004, with the help of his room mates, Dutsin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes, and using the finance provided by another friend, Eduardo Saverin, he launched what was then called, The Facebook. It was an instant hit, and soon made Mark the next big thing.

On September 14, 2012, Facebook hit 1 billion users, a remarkable feat for a company that started in Zuckerberg’s dormitory room while he was at Harvard. Zuckerberg later dropped out of Harvard in his second year to concentrate on his project.

If you think that Zuckerberg’s home will suggest his enormous wealth, you are mistaken. The American computer programmer and Internet entrepreneur owns a house in Palo Alto , California, which is his first property investment. But prior to this, he had always stayed in rented apartment. Zuckerberg lives in the house with his wife, Priscilla Chan. The young billionaire is known to be a fan of renting and a relatively modest lifestyle.

The house sits in the area of 5,1617-square-foot, was originally built in 1903. Since the house is of historic times, it boasts gorgeous historical elements, like sash windows, coffered ceilings, French doors, and deep porches. The 5-bedroom house was bought for $7m. Zuckerberg does not own a private jet, but Facebook authorised its CEO and COO to use private aircraft for business purposes to maximise such executives’ productive time and ensure their quick availability. On some occasions, the jet could also be used for personal purposes.

On May 19, 2012, Zuckerberg got married to his long time college sweetheart, Priscilla, in an astonishing ceremony at his Palo Alto home in California . The propitious wedding was kept behind the curtains in such a way that even the guests thought they were attending Priscilla’s graduation from the Univeristy of California.

Zuckerberg announced the nuptial on his social networking site ‘Facebook’, via a status update, posting his wedding picture which was liked by more than 280,000 people. Just a day before the wedding, Facebook’s fortune rose to £12bn in the stock market.

After a few days of exploring your new smartphone / tablet, a shocking reality hits you; Your Android data consumption is VERY HEAVY, same thing goes for iPhones and iPads. Smartphones / tablets running Android or iOS are very powerful devices, but these 'come at a price'; heavy data consumption. Android data consumption left unmanaged could leave you very frustrated. There are a lot of complaints about this issue, many unanswered questions so i'll guide you through a step-by-step guide on how to control heavy data consumption first on your Android smartphone / tablet and then on your iPhone / iPad.
How do I check my Android data consumption / data usage so far?
Checking your old bills is a great way to see your data usage over the previous months/years but it will always lag by a billing cycle. In order to check your current usage you want to monitor consumption from within Android. If your smartphone / tablet is running Android 4.0 or above, here's how you can check your Android data usage:

Navigate to Settings.
Select Wireless & Networks.
Select Data Usage.

If your smartphone / tablet is not currently running Android 4.0 or above, you'll either want to Upgrade Android OS running on your tablet / smartphone or download any good third-party data manager for Android. You can visit the Play Store to download mobile apps for Android (a good android application monitor).
How do i manage / control heavy data consumption on Android?
It's a rather simple process. There are aa number of methods you can employ. Some are:
Disable Auto-updates: Ensure to disable auto-updates. To do this:

Go to Settings
Select Wireless & Networks
Select Mobile networks and disable (untick) 'Data enabled' or 'Use packet data' (or something similar).
This will stop your Android from accessing the internet without your permission.
Next, return to Settings.
Go to Accounts & Sync
Disable background data ( This will stop auto-updates which drain your data [mb] plan)

Disable Unneeded apps: Leaving too many internet requiring apps open could also drain your data. To disable unneeded apps:

Go to Settings.
Select Applications.
Select Manage Applications.
Click on the running app that you don't really need.
'Force Stop' it.
Select 'Clear Data'.

If you really don't need an app then simply uninstall it.
Restrict app updates to Wi-Fi only: One of the easiest background data hogs to strike down right out of the gate is the background data consumed by application updates. Updates are necessary and welcome both for security purposes and access to new features, but there aren't any updates so critical that you absolutely need to get at them before you connect to the next Wi-Fi access point. By default, any apps set to automatically update will do so over both mobile data and Wi-Fi. You can change this by:

Launching the Play Store app.
Pressing the menu button.
Selecting Settings
Selecting Update over Wi-Fi only.

Toggling this setting on will save you untold amounts of mobile data usage over the life of the phone.
Switch to a Lightweight Browser: While the default browser in Android gets better with each release, it still leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to minimizing data usage. Fortunately there are several alternatives that feature data compression and optimization to help reduce usage, like Chrome Beta and Opera Mini.
Limit the use of streaming media: Watching 15 minutes of streaming video or listening to steaming music a day on your phone a couple funny YouTube videos or just half an episode of a sitcom on Hulu or Netflix is enough to add 1.25GB of data to your monthly usage. Stream some music while working out at the gym? Listening to Pandora for a daily 30 minute workout will add 800MB of data to your bill. Snap a lot of photos and sync them to your Dropbox account or Facebook Uploading a dozen high resolution photos a day can easily add 300-400MB to your usage.

How do i manage / control heavy data consumption / heavy data usage on iPhone / iPad?
iPhones aren't allowed to do a whole lot in the background. Despite these limitations, apps can still do a fair amount of downloading when they're not open and regardless of how they're connected to the internet. Now, lets go through how to figure out which apps are eating your data unnecessarily and how to stop them. On an iPhone, you can't track exactly which apps are using your data unless you're jailbroken. If you are, you can grab iNetUsage ($2) from Cydia and monitor the breakdown. If not, you'll need to do a little detective work, conduct an investigation and find the culprit(s) with some trial and error. Let's go over a few methods.
Ensure Wi-Fi Is Actually Enabled: Sometimes high data usage happens because you turned off Wi-Fi and just forgot. When my internet access goes down, I often do this and forget to turn it back on for a week. Fortunately I just don't use that much data in general, but if I did it could turn into a major problem. Before you spend a bunch of your time investigating the problem, make sure your data settings are actually correct.
Look at the Apps that Use the Most Battery: On an iPhone, if an app is draining your battery it has a better chance of eating up your data plan as well. Battery-sucking apps run in the background, and there are only a few things background apps can do on an iPhone: use the GPS, play music, and download files. While apps that download files might seem like guilty party, iOS only allows background downloading for a short amount of time. If the app isn't open on your phone, iOS will shut off its download privileges after about 10 minutes. As a result, you're probably aware of when an app is downloading something in the background. You're more likely to run into wasted data when you leave a music or location-aware app open in the background. Music apps can play indefinitely, and if they're streaming that music you can use a lot of data simply by forgetting to stop playback. Location-aware apps use your GPS and may need to download data relevant to that GPS. While it's unlikely that they're constantly grabbing new data (e.g. maps or location-based photos), you want to be sure these kind of apps aren't accessing your location without your knowledge. Fortunately, this is very easy to do. Simply:

Go into the Settings app on your iPhone.
Tap Privacy (in iOS 6, Location Services in earlier versions).
Tap Location Services.
Peruse the list of apps.
Most apps will just have an ON and OFF switch, but some will have a purple solid, purple outline, or gray solid arrow next to them.
A purple arrow means the app has used your location recently.
A gray arrow indicates the app has used your location in the last 24 hours
A purple outline arrow indicates the app is using a geofence (meaning that it's waiting to carry out an event when you're in a certain location, like when the Reminders app provides a location-based reminder).
The purple solid and outline arrows are the ones that cause the most trouble, so if you see them, try quitting those apps to see if your data usage decreases.

Employ a Data Monitoring App and Use It Strategically: If you'd prefer to avoid your cellular provider, Apple includes a bandwidth meter on the iPhone. to use it:

Open the Settings app
Tap its General heading
Select Network / for the 3G and 4G versions of the iPad (Settings, then Cellular Data).

This will report the total data consumed by the device; third-party apps can provide the same info for WiFi-only iPads and the iPod touch. you can also use a data monitoring app to keep an eye on your overall usage. This won't tell you which app is causing trouble, but it will tell you when a lot of data was used. You can use the date and time information to try and pinpoint what happened when large amounts of data was consumed. Sure, this isn't a definitive method but it might help you zero in on the culprit(s).
Call Your Cellular Provider: Wasted data may not be your fault, it may be an error on the part of your provider. Don't just assume it's your fault. Chances are you did use the data, but sometimes mistakes happen (nobody's perfect, after all). If you've looked around and something seems a little fishy, call your provider and ask. There may be an error and you may be in the clear.

A few months after the dispute on debt for 'African Queen' song, and only several days after the war of words on wedding invitation with his former band mate and friend, Tuface Idibia, fortune has finally smiled on Blackface.

Former member of the defunct music group, Plantashun Boiz, Blackface has signed a N52 million deal with Franchise Events Limited, which also includes a car and a house.

According to Franchise Events Limited spokesperson, the company chose Blackface because of his "versatility, staying power in the music industry and his brand of music".

Company operating public transport in Austria's capital, Vienna, released an information film that shows passengers behaving inappropriately -- and, among others, a couple "kissing untamed" is included in the video.

It has been agreed in many countries that eating food with a strong smell, talking too loudly or putting your feet on the seats is unacceptable on buses and trains. Now, according to Wiener Linien, a public transport company in Vienna, Austria, openly displaying affection while travelling could be considered equally inconsiderate.

The information film released by the company shows someone picking their nose, an unattended dog drooling and a kissing couple.

Etiquette and protocol consultants agree that an innocent kiss on the cheek is fine in public. However, a "serious" kiss on the lips, especially with the tongue, is a very intimate act and should not be dispayed publicly. Moreover, when random passers-by witness a kiss, it devalues this sign of affection.

Vienna company's spokesperson says kissing was neither banned on the network nor subject to fines. But the customers were asked to "behave considerately".

While some consider this a welcome development, others may be saddened.

Railway stations are often seen as romantic places where people meet ad greet each other, or see each other off. What is more, public display of affection can be an act of liberation for some people. For instance, in May 2010, around a hundred people protested in Ankara, Turkey, against the subway authorities' admonishment of a couple who locked lips in public.

Although some time ago, kissing was seen as a thing peculiar to the Western countries, it seems that younger generation of other countries, such as India, is becoming more liberal.

The Vice President Namadi Sambo has, in a bid to end the continuous gridlock in the dialogue between the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU and federal government, taken over the negotiation process. The government’s negotiation team was formerly headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Pius Anyim.

For the first time since the commencement of the over 10-week-old strike action by the union, the Vice President met with the leadership of the union at the Presidential Villa on Thursday.
The meeting was held behind closed doors.

Nigerian Universities have been shut down since June 30 as a result of federal government’s failure to honour an agreement signed between it and ASUU in 2009 bothering on issues of university funding and improvement of infrastructure in the sector.

Speaking to journalists at the Presidential Villa after the closed door meeting, the ASUU President, Nasir Fagge, said that he was taking back a “message given to him at the meeting for his members” and that Nigerians would have to wait for the response of his members on the way forward.

“We have had a meeting with the Vice President and he has given us a message to our members, and we said that as the messengers that we are, we are going to deliver the message faithfully to our members and then they will take the decision.”

According to him, “I know Nigerians are expecting a solution to the strike, we also want a solution, but I have been given a message to our members. The message is not for Nigerians, it is for our members”.

“If I deliver the message, our principal will decide and we will get back to the ministry of education within this week,” he added, saying the union would get back to the education minister on its stance on the government’s latest offer.

The federal government had offered N100 billion and N30 billion for infrastructure development in various universities and payment of verified earned allowances of lecturers respectively. It is not clear if the government made an improved offer for the lecturers whose only demand is that government implements fully the 2009 agreement.

The Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, who was also at the meeting, explained that the meeting had been convened to find a lasting solution to the crisis.

“One is quit hopeful that ASUU is committed, they have the passion and that there is the need for us to move the education sector forward.

“ASUU coming to discuss means that they are committed on their own part and that the federal government is also committed. We have gone very far, we believe that in no distance time, you will have a very good result,” he said.

Also on the ASUU delegation were two former Presidents of ASUU, Dipo Fasina and Abdullahi Sule-Kano.

Other members of the government’s delegation included the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Julius Okojie; as well as the Vice Chancellors of Bayero University Kano (BUK), University of Ibadan (UI) and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi, Abdulrasheed Abubakar, Isaac Adewole, and Muhammed Muhammed respectively.

NDLEA arrest 400 level student with 1.250kg of liquid cocaine Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency of Nigeria (NDLEA) Thursday arrested a 400 level student at the newly upgraded Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu.

The suspect, Chizoba Anselem Nwabuwa, 32 year-old Fine and Applied Arts student at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State was apprehended during the inward screening of passengers on an Ethiopian flight from Brazil enroute Addis-Ababa.

According to the head of the NDLEA at the Enugu Airport, Mr. Nsikak-Abasi Udoh who confirmed the arrest the suspect excreted 25 wraps of liquid that tested positive for cocaine.

“The suspect excreted twenty-five (25) wraps of liquid substance. When tested with the United Nations drug testing kit, it tested positive for cocaine weighing 1.250kg. This first arrest and seizure is exciting to us because we just commenced operations” Nsikak-Abasi stated.

Narrating his ordeal Nwabuwa stated that he had wanted to use the proceeds from the illicit trade to finance his Art Gallery.

His words: “I am a 400 level student of Fine & Applied Arts at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State. I wanted to use the half a million naira (N500,000) they promised to pay me in developing my Art Gallery.

They assured me in Brazil that authorities will not be able to detect liquid cocaine, so I was confident. Unfortunately, things have turned-out the other way. I regret my involvement in drug trafficking”.

Meanwhile, Chairman of NDLEA Ahmadu Giade while expressing satisfaction with the arrest said that the agency would give high priority attention to all the airports in order to apprehend drug smugglers across the country.

In his words, “the Agency accords high priority attention to all the airports. We shall continue to up-scale our operations at the airports and prevent drug trafficking syndicates from using the nation’s airports”.

Giade urged members of the public to pursue legitimate businesses at all times noting that a good name is far better than ill-gotten wealth.

He further pointed out that the suspect will soon be charged to court.

Aparecido Castaldo, a retired stone cutter from Jundiai, Brazil has decided to marry his beloved Carmella, a goat. Because no Christian minister would agree to perform the marriage ceremony, the two will be wed by a known satanic leader, in the Church of the Devil.

People have married their pets in the past, although in most cases the marriage ceremony was just a symbolic one performed by family or friends. However, 74-year old Aparecido Castaldo, a widower and father-of-seven, apparently wanted to be united with his goat Carmela in a church, by an evangelical minister. Unfortunately, none of the churches he contacted with his unusual request wanted to perform the ceremony, so Aparecido eventually contacted Toninho do Diabo (Tom the Devil), an old friend who just happens to be one of the most famous satanists in Brazil. The wedding is scheduled to take place at midnight, on October 13, at the Devil’s Church, in Sao Paolo. ”Only our church accepted this love between man and animal because we have no prejudice,” Toninho said.

Aparecido fell in love with his pet goat two years ago, and apparently she has already been accepted as a “stepmother” by the man’s seven children, who will all be at the wedding. Although their upcoming wedding has caused a lot of controversy in the community, and attracted accusations from animal rights activists, Castaldo said they have no plans to consummate their marriage. He just needs a life companion and Carmella is just perfect. “Whenever someone says I am doing something wrong I reply the goat does not speak, ask for money to go shopping and doesn’t get pregnant – and she can’t talk,” the groom-to-be praised his future wife. She does have one fault, though – she tries to eat everything, including the first wedding dress Aparecido got for her. Luckily, he was able to find another.

After the October 13 wedding, Aparecido plans to celebrate his union to Carmela with a barbecue party, but makes it very clear that there won’t be any goat meat served…

An eight year old bride in Yemen died from internal injuries on her wedding night, bleeding to death after deep honeypotl tearing caused by sex with her 40 year old husband.

The girl, identified only by the name Rawan, died in Hardh in the governorate of Hajjah in northwestern Yemen, according to a report issued by UPI on Sunday, Sept. 8.
Activists in the region want to put an end to the practice of marrying young girls, and have called for police to arrest the girl's husband and family.

Nevertheless, the forced marriage of child brides in Yemen remains a socially accepted custom in many rural areas.Indeed, the practice has deep cultural and religious roots, and is widespread in Yemen.
A February 2009 law set the minimum age for marriage at 17, but it was repealed after some conservative lawmakers called it un-Islamic.

In particular, a prominent Islamic cleric, Abdulmajeed al-Zindani, issued a fatwa in support of the practice, declaring supporters of a ban on child brides to be apostates, and ultimately leading a successful campaign against legislation that would prevent adult men from marrying children.

The issue of Yemen's child bride problem made headlines three years ago when an 8-year-old girl went to court, demanding a judge dissolve her marriage to a man in his 30s. The girl eventually won a divorce, and legislators began looking at ways to curb the practice. However, they have so far been unsuccessful.

Currently the law states that parents should decide when a daughter marries. Unfortunately, reports indicate more than a quarter of Yemen’s females marry before age 15.

The future of university education in the country is in jeopardy, as the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities call off their negotiation.

Over two months after the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, embarked on an indefinite strike to compel the federal government to implement part of the 2009 agreement reached between both sides, indications are that both sides are far from agreeing on the terms of settling the dispute. The negotiation to end the strike, which has entered the tenth week, appears to have reached a dead end, as government's negotiation team and representatives of the academic union have abandoned the process in protest.

Two days after President Goodluck Jonathan directed the federal government's negotiating team to take all the necessary steps to ensure a quick resolution of the dispute, ASUU pulled out of the negotiation, alleging insincerity on the part of government.

The federal government had offered the striking lecturers, N100 billion to pacify them and get them back to the classrooms. ASUU's contention is that the distribution of N100 billion to universities by government was a half-hearted measure that would not tackle the monumental and myriads of problems facing the university education in the country.

Some critics have condemned the federal government for refusing to honour the terms of agreements it willingly signed. On the other hand, critics of ASUU say the union is "insensitive" to the plights of students.

While the federal government might not have met their demands, Kayode Oladimeji, a student, said ASUU should have accepted what was offered and call off the strike in the interest of students and the university education in Nigeria.

Two men, Anyaso Udeh from Abia State, and another man identified as Gabriel from Delta State, are locked in a fierce battle over a grandmother, Mrs Patricia Osadebe, and her five children over who among them is the rightful husband and father of the five children delivered by the woman in Lagos State, Nigeria.

Both men claimed to have married Patricia and had children from her. Gabriel said he married Patricia and paid her bride price and so, she is his legitimate wife and the children belong to him.

Udeh on his part claimed that despite the fact that he did not pay Patricia's bride price, he is the biological father of the five children.

According to Patricia, she married Gabriel more than 20 years ago and they had a daughter who is now married and has kids. She later left Gabriel in Delta State and came to Lagos and lived with Udeh from Abiriba in Abia State as husband and wife and had five children and she decided to go back to her former husband, Gabriel, last year, with her five children and claimed that the children belong to him.

Udeh is pleading that if Patricia has decided to go back to Gabriel, her family should allow him take custody of his children in the interest of peace and justice.

When Gabriel was contacted, he said he had taken his wife and children back and declined to make further comment.

The head of Patricia's family in Lagos, Chief Agumba said the family does not recognize Udeh because there was no proper marriage between him and their daughter, Patricia. and since Gabriel properly married her according to their culture and tradition in Delta State, the children belong to Gabriel. He said Gabriel is recognized as her husband and if indeed Udeh wanted to marry Patricia, he would have paid the bride price to the family.

The deodorant is the world's best-selling male grooming product, sold in 60 countries.

Dangerous over-use: Inhaling chemicals from deodorant aerosols can cause skin reactions, aggravate allergies and may trigger fatal heart problems

The primary target for spray deodorants is thought to be 13 to 18-year-olds, with mums the main buyers, according to Marketing Magazine.

So powerful is its hold on the teen market that some teachers have gone on to online forums to complain about it, sharing anecdotes about having to teach through the fug of deodorant.

But some experts are concerned teenagers are over-using deodorant, warning that inhaling chemicals from the aerosols may cause allergic skin reactions, asthma and breathing difficulties.

In very rare cases they may even trigger fatal heart problems.

Maureen Jenkins, director of clinical services at Allergy UK, says: "Around one in three adults in the UK have some form of allergic disease - asthma, rhinitis or eczema - and their symptoms are easily aggravated by perfumed products and exacerbated by aerosol chemicals.

Even people without allergies can be sensitive to chemicals found in cleaning products or toiletries, experiencing skin reactions, breathing difficulties, nausea or headaches.

The reactions are made worse when it is an aerosol as the fine mist is easily inhaled."

Dr Peter Dingle, an environmental scientist and consultant toxicologist based in Perth, Australia, says: "The labels on deodorant aerosols instruct you not to use them in a confined space, but I think it's safe to say most people in the UK aren't going to go outside to spray on their deodorants.

They would do it in the bathroom, most likely with the door closed - and that's a confined space.

In the middle of winter, you're not even going to have a window open. If you watch a deodorant advert, the young man usually sprays himself all over his body, which is exactly what the can tells you you're not supposed to do.

This is something the Capewell family will be reminded of for the rest of their lives.

Jonathan Capewell was just 16 when he died of a heart attack in the bedroom of his home in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

His 17-year-old sister, Natalie, raised the alarm after finding her brother lying lifeless on his bedroom floor.

"When we arrived at the hospital, they were still trying to revive him," recalls his father Keith, 58.

"But about ten minutes later they said he was gone. We were shocked. There had been no warning. They asked if he had a heart condition but there was nothing like that. He was a perfectly normal, healthy boy."

A post-mortem examination showed Jonathan had ten times the lethal amount of butane and propane in his blood.

The gases are used as aerosol propellants and it seemed they had built up in his body over many months.

At first, it was feared Jonathan had been engaging in solvent abuse - inhaling aerosol solvents to obtain a "high" - but it seemed out of character to all who knew him.

Keith says: "The coroner's investigator checked the aerosols we had in the house but found none of the signs of solvent abuse. He came to the conclusion that Jonathan wasn't abusing."

The investigation turned to Jonathan's use of deodorants. "He was 16 and his body was changing," says Keith. "He was starting to sweat more and worry about how he smelled. It wasn't unusual for him to have two or three showers a day."

"Afterwards he would spray deodorant all over his body, even in his hair, and the bathroom was the smallest room in the house. He was a bit obsessive and would have up to six different types to choose from.

Sometimes we could smell the deodorant downstairs and we'd joke: "Are you spraying that up there or eating it?"

The coroner, Barrie Williams, ruled that Jonathan's death was accidental, saying: "The 16-year-old was a normal, healthy teenager who was simply overcome by excessive use of antiperspirants.

There was an exceptionally high use of deodorant for personal hygiene. It was used in a fairly confined space against the advice of the canisters."

But how could accidentally inhaling aerosol chemicals cause death? Jonathan Clague, a consultant heart specialist at the Royal Brompton Hospital, says: "The main cause of death is usually suffocation, known as hypoxia.

If oxygen is not being breathed in and something else is inhaled, such as chemicals, then suffocation occurs and the heart stops."

After the inquest in 1998, Keith and Louise struggled to come to terms with Jonathan's death. "My daughter blamed herself because she was in the house when it happened, even though there was nothing she could have done,"says Keith.

"I went back to work as a warehouse manager after a couple of weeks but every time the phone rang my hands started shaking and I'd be transported back to that day, expecting more bad news. I had to give it up."

It was two years before he could work again. He adds: "It's been very hard to accept - Jonathan was only 16 and hadn't even started out in life."

There are several warnings on the back of Lynx canisters. Users are advised to "use in short bursts in well ventilated spaces", to "avoid prolonged spraying" and "keep out of reach of children".

The British Aerosol Manufacturers Association (BAMA) says propellants in household aerosol products have been used safely for 40 years and that 600 million aerosols are used each year in the UK.

The association carried out its own research after Jonathan Capewell's death, but says it was "unable to reproduce the conditions which could lead to harmful or fatal effects from excessive spraying of aerosol products in a confined space".

Dr Dingle says: "It's not enough for the authorities to say, It's OK, there's a warning on the back of the can.

I would advise teenagers to stick to roll-on deodorant, preferably one of the natural ones."

The Capewells are also calling for better awareness of the risks of aerosol deodorants.

"Our youngest son Nathan was four when Jonathan died and as soon as he was old enough to use deodorant we drummed into him that he had to open the windows and only use short bursts.

He's 20 now and he does that to this day, wherever he is," says Keith.

"I'd like to see warnings on the front of the can, like there are for cigarettes and alcohol. Because we know first hand that deodorants can be just as fatal."

Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell molested a young girl as she clutched a teddy bear and warned her that if she told anyone she would 'die', a court heard today.
The actor allegedly told the girl, 'It's okay, just keep calm, stay asleep... I'm going to get rid of the evil,' as he sexually abused the youngster, Manchester Crown Court was told.

He also allegedly told her: 'It's our little secret, no-one needs to know otherwise ... you'll die and the evil will come over you.'
Le Vell, 48, who plays car mechanic Kevin Webster in the ITV soap, is facing 12 charges in all - five counts of rape, three of indecent assault, two counts of sexual activity with a child and two of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.



Le Vell, who is on trial under his real name of Michael Turner, denies the offences and shook his head saying 'not guilty' in a strong voice as the charges were put to him before his trial began.
The first time he molested the girl, she clutched one teddy bear while Le Vell put another teddy bear over her mouth, it is alleged.
'It's okay. I'm making the evil stop once and for all now. It'll be fine,' he allegedly told the girl.
He then molested the youngster, kissed her on the cheek and left, the court heard.
The jury heard that on another occasion Le Vell molested the girl.
'He did not say anything this time, and after he had finished, he just got up and left,' Ms Laws said.
'She recalls that afterwards she felt sick,' the prosecutor added.

Olaniyi Victor Makinde the internet fraudster, who is top on the wanted list of the United States of America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI has been arrested in Akure, the Ondo state capital by Nigeria’s anti-graft police, EFCC.
A source in FBI had hinted iReports-ng that Makinde who is also known as Olaniyi Jones and Andrea Bradley was wanted by the San Francisco Division of the FBI. According to the source, the US government viewed the activities of Makinde seriously and as such had to send three FBI agents including a supervisory special agent and two special agents, to Nigeria last quarter to meet with their Nigerian counterparts over the arrest of the fraudster. The fraudster was eventually arrested on September 6 last year.

iReports-ng learnt that the FBI agents were also joined by another official of the US consulate Lagos to obtain statements from Makinde when he was eventually arrested by EFCC operatives ahead of their request for his extradition to the US to face trial with some of his American accomplices in the serial fraud. The Nigerian authorities were said to have reached an agreement with the FBI agents to prosecute Makinde in Nigeria before considering handing him over to the US government. He was said to have been arraigned before a high court judge in Akure on November 26 last year over a $620,225.04 fraud and later remanded at a prison custody in the state capital.

It was however drama galore on Tuesday, January 11, when the 26-year old internet fraudster already in custody at the Olokuta medium prison, Akure , was docked again by EFCC, over a fresh $150,000 scam. The fraudster, Olaniyi Victor Makinde, a fresh graduate of the University of Ado Ekiti , was docked at an Akure High Court presided by Justice A.O Adebusuyi on a 14 count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretense and stealing. In his first arraignment before Justice Olasehinde Kumuyi of the same Court, nine count charges were preferred against him also bordering on stealing and obtaining money by false pretence. He allegedly obtained a total of $620,225.04 from two Americans: Marilou Sibbaluca and John Massoni in a marriage scam. However, the accused pleaded not guilty to all the charges preferred against him. Trouble started for Makinde when investigations revealed that he had been defrauding several foreigners, especially Americans in marriage scam and related offences, through the internet. He was also accused of masterminding serious hacking practices against an American online pay roll services company, Intuit, in California .

When the latest 14 count charges were read to him, he pleaded not guilty to them. The defence counsel, Mr. A.A. Adetunji, thereafter made an oral application for bail which was successful. The judge granted the accused bail in the sum of N20million with two sureties in like sum who must swear to an affidavit of means of livelihood and with landed property in Akure. He also granted the prosecution’s prayer for the accelerated hearing of the case. The Judge added that during the trial he would not entertain any frivolous application meant to delay the trial and he threatened to revoke the bail granted the accused if there was any delay. He therefore adjourned the case to February 21 -25 for trial. The accused person has not been granted bail on the initial charges preferred against him. Justice Adebusuyi reserved ruling on the bail application till January 18

Makinde finished with second class honours in Economics from UNAD. He started his 419 heist early 2009 while he was still an undergraduate. He and other members of his gang who are now at large went to a dating site on the internet and started chatting with some American ladies and men who fell prey to their 419 scheme. Depending on the sex of his victim, Makinde sometimes presented himself as an American woman looking for a husband and to make assurance doubly sure, he would download a beautiful picture of an American lady from the internet and sent it to the victim as his picture. If the victim is a woman he would do the exact opposite. This way, Makinde had been fleecing his victims until the game was up for him.
