Business / Re: Please Nairalanders What Is The Latest News About Wema Bank. by normad: 2:49pm On Aug 02, 2009
Tanx GBASKY for that soothing post. You have any news on SGBN? They have not opened shop since last year when their licence was restored through the court.
Business / Elumelu, Ovia, Akingbola Etc To Retire? by normad: 11:21pm On Jul 23, 2009
I was wondering the other day about the long serving (EVERLASTING) MDs of our banks. Messrs Tony Elumelu of UBA, Jim Ovia of Zenneth Bank, Erastus Akingbola of Intercontinental Bank, Cecilia Ibru of Oceanic have all been at the helm of these banks for two decades. Yes, 20 YEARS: 1989- 2009.

Would it be good for the banking industry if these SUPER CEOs simply bow out and leave the scene for younger ones? Do they still have any idea about what modern banking really is? Should the CBN edge them out one way or the other? Twenty years on the same position in private companies with boards of directors is rather sickening. What are the boards doing or do these CEOs own these banks personally? Where is corporate governance in these companies?

What do you think? Please post your contributions.
Business / Re: Re-consolidation Looms, Cbn Seeks Only 15 Banks by normad: 11:11pm On Jul 23, 2009
So what happens to SGBN and Savannah Bank, and how long will the CBN treat them specially? In the case of SGBN, it's more than 14 months since the court ordered their licence returned, they have not raised 25billion naira neither have they finalised merger talks. What is happening to these banks? We need to know.
