I finally migrated to Perth, Australia early December 2018. Before leaving, I was already applying for jobs and secured a job in new Zealand. I moved to Auckland, New Zealand mid-january 2018. As an Australian PR, you have unrestricted right to work in new zealand so it's something worth exploring. I am looking at max 1 year working in new Zealand and relocating back to Australia( might even leave earlier if I get a job in Australia) but most importantly I get ANZ work experience and some quids on my pocket. On a lighter note New Zealand is a beautiful country. I hope this helps. Blitzenkreig66: Hi, Can anybody give tips on how to get a professional engineering job in this Oz?
I have 2 years' experience in Naija A naija 1st degree and Aussie Diploma A PR holder. Based in QLD |

Dykodd: Hi everyone. Good job you guys are doing. I apologise for the long post but I'm actually looking for some pieces of advice concerning the occupation to nominate. Let me break down my details... - Studied Materials & Metallurgical Engineering (Metallurgy option) (FUTO 2009) - I'm aiming for Visa 189 or 489 (family nominated), I have a brother who's a permanent residence holder in Australia and he lives in NSW. So he will nominate me. - Both 189 and 489 (family nominated) require ones occupation to be on MLTSSL. -My course of study is not on the MLTSSL, what they have there is "Materials Engineer" -My question is...should I nominate "Engineering Technologist" since it's on the MLTSSL or should I go ahead and nominate "Materials Engineer"?
Note: There are two types of 489, one is family nominated (MLTSSL only) while the other is state/territory nominated.
Any input will be highly appreciated. Thanks and good luck to everyone!!! Its Chemical/Materials Engineer. So Your occupation is on the list. A Bachelors degree in Materials & Metallurgical Engineering meets the educational requirement for a Materials Engineer. Go ahead and submit your assessment to Engineers Australia. I hope this helps. Cheers |

Please confirm if you would need a transit visa when using the ethiopian. I was told I needed one cos the layover in Singapore. Found it strange since I won't be leaving d airport. Anyways Emirates via IOM was my preferred choice. Yea d prices listed at Skyscanner are similar to that on wakanow. Phlunter01: Look what I found oh. Family of four via Ethiopian airline = N995k |

Thanks. IOM reverted. Cheers kamotisha: @nosula Apologies I am responding now. I have been super busy. It took them a few hours to respond initially. Then another 1 week plus to get another response. After paying, I waited for almost 2 weeks to get the final ticket. Like others have stated, you have to be patient or try other options. If you are travelling with kids, I advice you opt for a ticket with shorter flight time. Cheers... |

Please can you share the agent details. Duch1020: @Nosula Don't restrict yourself to IOM. You might just find other options to be cheaper. In my case, IOM quoted about N1,300,000 for the four of us.(Johannesburg to Melbourne via Dubai). We however got a ticket with emirates through an online agent for about N750,000 same route with a better baggage allowance of 46kg+7kg hand luggage each as against 40kg+7kg hand luggage offered by IOM. |

Based on my analysis on Job sites (SEEK AND Indeed), I noticed that there are more job opportunities for me in Melbourne and Sydney (Although I was told majority of the jobs are not even advertised). I would still go to Perth initially just to see friends but I finally relocate to either Sydney or Melbourne or wherever a job offer takes me to. majiouk2002: Bro, was there any reason why you ditched Perth for Melbourne and Sydney? Thanks |

I think I should explore this option. How did you get the line via Skype pls |

I am presently applying for jobs not necessarily cos am looking to move immediately but rather gauging the adequacy of my resume. I have found seek and indeed jobsite to be very useful. Doing this can help you know if there is a certification you can do to boost ur cv before you relocate and at the same time, u can filter your job search by region/state. This was useful in my case as I initially wanted to reside in Perth, but based on my findings I am now looking at either melbourne or sydney. Inspire of all I said, it's generally harder to secure a job when you are offshore. In my case I used Skype to get an Australian landline number which is presently on my resume and using a friend's address in Perth. I would be relocating by early 2018. I hope this helps. Cheers samge: Thanks for creation of this group & for the valuable insight given already.
Is it necessary/worthwhile to apply for a job before leaving Nigeria? Is there any chance of getting a job when you have a definite date of arrival?
Thank you. |

Dave4eva: @Nosula thanks for your response. Quite on point. Really appreciated. But from what I understood from you response, you mean that irrespective of the fact that I already had a 9months experience elsewhere, with 7yrs + say 3 months in a different company, the total experience amounts to 8yrs? I was thinking that each experience gained in any company has to be a complete duration in year(s) before it is counted and anything less (say couple of months) is not considered. Please would you clarify. The total of 8 years is cumulative. As far as I know, there is no requirement for minimum of a year per company. So you should be fine. |

Dave4eva: Guys and the gurus with experience in the house, first my greetings to you all. Please I will need your advices on these crucial matters. I’ve tried to search for answer her but to no avail. 1. I am to submit an application for EA assessment as a Mechanical Engineer. Presently, work experience is about 7 yrs + 9months. The 9 months is in a different company. Question is, will EA assess my experience as 5 yrs since the 9 months done in a different company didn’t add up to a complete year which will then make the total years be less than 8yrs? Or will it be approximated to 8 yrs? You guys know how crucial that point difference is.
Response: My advice would be submit your EA assessment at the end of the month and hopefully the entire 7 yrs 10 months (Additional 1 month gained when submitting end of the month) is deemed relevant. EA assessment would most likely take you 1 or 2 months. Lodge your EOI but leave your end date as blank because you are still employed to the comapny, before getting your ITA, tour work experience would have racked up 8 years. Just ensure when you are submitting your payslips during visa application, add the additional payslips for the extra 2 or 3 months as the case maybe.
2. If eventually this comes to 5yrs, with my present IELTS score of minimum of 7 across board, I will have a total score of 60 points. Quite low for an ITA. And this brings me to ask a second question. 3. I will like to claim partner points for my spouse so I can get an additional 5pts. The basic issue here is my spouse has a Civil engineering degree but has not done any related work in civil engineering. Related work experience is in the oil and gas line. Drilling in particular but for the past 3 yrs or so, she has been out of employment. Is it necessary that she must be working at the time the assessment application is lodged? Does EA require spouse to have any experience for a positive assessment outcome? Is there a chance of getting a positive assessment? I mean please advice on this as this will require finance which I don’t want to just throw into the winds. I stumbled over these requirements for claiming points for partner skills. The 3rd and 4th item are giving me concerns.
Response: I have seen people get positive EA assessment without having relevant work experience. You might want to seek the opinions of the civil engineers in the house. My advice would be considering doing PTE academic to see if you can claim 20 points ( which gives you an extra 10 points). Its far cheaper than the EA assessment fee.
You can claim 5 extra points if your partner meets the below requirements: • Under 50 years of age • Has at least competent English • Has nominated an occupation on the same skilled occupation list as your nominated occupation • Has been assessed by the relevant assessing authority as having suitable skills for the nominated occupation
Please I await your good responses with advices. Thanks. |

Johnson2016: Wow. Many congrats Please i want to ask. For the experiences you claimed which documents did you present to backup your claim? Also what salary range did you put forword as an engineer? Thanks MSA Engineers Australia booklet is a good guide when applying to be assessed. I recommend you assess your work experience and educational qualification. I uploaded a reference letter from all companies I worked with. The letter clearly stated the Job designation, amount of hrs worked per day, At least 5 job responsibilities which was duly signed by the HR or supervisor. I also submitted my payslips for entire duration of work experience claimed. Also ensure your career episodes tally with the specified ANZSCO job descriptions. The good thing is that these same documents would also be relevant during the visa application. |
