According to the Whitehouse, Canada simply misunderstood this to be a trade war and so were mistaken in retaliating, yeah you read that right lol.

Trump placed a 25% tariff on Canada, but they just apparently misunderstood its intent. Clearly, Trump didn’t anticipate Canada hitting back and oh boy, are they hitting back.

The trade deficit is caused by private businesses that choose on their own to import goods from Canada. What on earth is Canada supposed to do about American businesses choosing to import stuff from their country?

Do you see the issue? His demands make literally no sense. How is Canada possibly supposed to appease something they can’t actually appease? How are they supposed to stop American companies from buying Canadian products or how are they supposed to force Canadian companies to buy more American products? If anything, the tariffs are having the exact OPPOSITE effect in that Canadians are boycotting American products and Ontario just canceled a $68m contract with Starlink lol.

My thoughts? It makes no sense whatsoever. What they are demanding is something that Canada can’t give them, even if they wanted to. To claim this isn’t a trade war, well yes it is. You place tariffs on a foreign country, they tariff you back, that’s a f#cking trade war.

The US did this completely unprovoked and as you can see from above, without any coherent reason. Basically, Trump is an idiot that doesn’t understand how things work and is mad at Canada so he’s trying to bully them for some strange reason.

The Whitehouse is trying to do a bit of damage control as they realize that the Canadian tariffs are specifically aimed at Red States and this will harm the US economy.

Now, they are trying to distance themselves and say, “those silly Canadians just didn’t understand”.
