adedammy009:Hi, I completed the whole process myself, didn’t use a lawyer. And yes, an approval is very much possible without recommendation letter(s). I think it depends on the applicant’s profile. Some applicants already have a really superb professional profile and very weighty proposed endeavor, that even without recommendation letters they are good to go. My opinion; If an applicant thinks or believes that getting recommendation letters adds value to their application, then by all means go for it! |
AIT1:Hi, thank you! No, it is not. However, it is recommended and has become the ‘norm’ for a lot of applicants. I submitted a CV and/or documented professional profile for all of my recommenders along with the letters. Some of your recommenders e.g well published professors, might already have their CV online (as was the case for one of mine). Alternatively, you can download and print out a copy of their LinkedIn profiles. Essentially, the CV going with the letters just helps the reviewing officer to see the accomplishments of your recommender to show their expertise in your field and how they are well-positioned to recommend you. P.S;Ideally, the first paragraph of your recommendation letter should be a brief intro of your recommender’s professional profile. Hope this is helpful.🤗 |
LadeeE:Thank you! |
adedammy009:Thank you!🤗 |
isongfa:I’m not sure this is meant for me. I am not privy to information about any telegram link for this purpose. |
Koldfuzhion:Thank you! Happy to hear that the thread is helpful to you and others.🤗 |
hustla:Hi, thank you! I filed my application concurrently (I-140 and I-485) in the 2nd week of July 2022. Like I previously stated, I-140 was approved in December 2022, and I-485 just recently approved. So I’ll say roughly a year and half for the whole process. Prior to the retrogression of the priority date, I know of candidates whose whole process took 6months to less than 1year, I’ve also seen those with the whole process being close to or greater than 2 years (due to several factors). In more recent times, with priority dates not being current for any country, the whole process is taking longer and future projection suggests even longer wait times ahead.🤷🏽♀️ |
adedammy009:Thanks for this!, just forwarded to a friend who is in the same scenario, though her spouse is currently in the UK. ************************** In other related news, the big eagle landed this week!🎉. I received approval notification for my I-485 (Greencard application). Fun Fact: I-485 approval came exactly a year after I-140 approval. So, yes! another even greater Christmas gift in 2023.❤️ Thanks to everyone that has contributed to this thread that I started just to create awareness while I was waiting on USCIS decision for my application. I remain committed to creating awareness to people about this legal immigration pathway. IF I do decide to, I might start a YouTube channel or Instagram page to create more content about EB Greencards (been on my mind for a while now), but fingers crossed. Anyways, this phase is done and I am deeply grateful to God for it. We go again for the bigger eagle (citizenship application) in 5 years, God willing🙏🏽. |
@NewBoyKhashoggi, lo sun! (go to bed). I’ve never seen your type of confident and consistent delusion before…. Kai. Did you think silent readers and observers of the thread will just sit quietly and watch you pass misleading information to thousands of people? You must be a joker!! The straw the broke the camels back for myself and everyone was that dust you yarned about funding. You had better shush and don’t let @Twoods come for you.😂 Oh how I miss the years when this thread was filled with highly cerebral folks that were dishing out correct information! The days of the OG’s like @imperiouxx @Lagosismyhome @Twoods @Femi312 @GboyegaD and the likes… @Justwise you need to find a way to sanitize this page!, please bring back the good ‘Ol days.😊 @NewBoyKhashoggi, Honestly, this is not to say you haven’t been doing your presumed “best” at providing guidance to folks based on your limited knowledge of the process . I’ve gone through some of your other posts, and I see that you’re trying. However, please ensure you’re dishing out accurate information. Ire oh!, oya lo sun.✌🏽 |
NewBoyKhashoggi:😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂. I just had the best laugh ever! Kashoggi, you know nothing!, please relax; Unlearn, Learn and Relearn, it will do you so much good. More importantly, desist from confidently having an opinion on matters you know little or NOTHING about. I genuinely wish you nothing but the best in your endeavor and adventure. Have a wonderful night’s rest! |
NewBoyKhashoggi:How do you confidently post something like this? Who are you in the scheme of things to decide which fully funded program is beneficial or not beneficial to America. Do you think schools in the US just churn out full funding or stipends to every Tom, Dick and Harry? Do you think full funding is beans? How would you write that students with tuition scholarships are likely to jettison their stay in the US?, how is that even logical thinking?? What do you think is the number 1 reason students run out of status if not finances. You think it’s that easy for sponsors to keep converting naira to dollars for upkeep of their wards? Oh, by the way, please do well by responding to me! I’m all ears and eager to hear that which was making you laugh about my profile. Also don’t come at me with “you respect me as a woman”, that’s a very tired line!. |
@NewBoyKhashoggi Could you kindly stop misleading folks with your unfounded “truths”. I agree that this is a public forum, but please stop! You are NOT a visa officer or consular. The best you can do is tell people to fill their visa applications truthfully and answer visa interview questions confidently, truthfully, smartly and succinctly to the best of their ability. Any other advice you have is a figment of your own imagination! Respectfully! P.S; Please note that this post is as regards your previous views/comments on getting funding to study in the US which is very much untrue. |
Schrodinger2:You’re welcome! You can follow @eb2niw and @oscarsgreencard pages on Instagram. They both create content about EB1 and EB2 visas and are both very knowledgeable about the process and current happenings. |
Schrodinger2:Hi, thanks for your contribution. Yeah, the consular processing guys have taken over the page lol, but it’s all good, we’re all learning. Per your question about when to apply. I’ll say the best time to apply was yesterday lol (as long as you’re well qualified). The awareness about the NIW is at an all time high, thereby causing a huge backlog of people waiting in line for greencard processing. The earlier you put your application together and submit, so you can join that long line, the better for you. You already have one advanced degree (which is the baseline requirement). If need be, you’re free to include your PhD offer letter in your application packet as additional proof to show you’re well positioned academically to carry out your proposed endeavor. |
Mandem101:It’s one thing for one’s priority date to be current, another thing entirely for PD to be current and still waiting to get GC approved (or get an interview letter [IL], for you guys doing consular processing)🤷🏽♀️. My PD has been current since last month… Fingers crossed, hopefully I’ll get my GC approved as a nice Christmas gift this time as well (got I-140 approved just before Christmas last year). In any case, we wait!😀 |
mechango:Congrats! |
Lolade95:Check YouTube, lots of videos and resources on how to label your exhibits and arrange your documents for submission to USCIS |

cobu:Using the Date of Filing (DOF) Chart only allows applicants for adjustment of status to file/submit their I-485 Greencard applications. The Oct/Nov Visa bulletin only gives more people the opportunity to file for AOS and the associated benefits. The Final action date chart is still what determines when the greencard application can be adjudicated. I stand corrected but I think for consular processing, an individuals final action date has to be current to receive IL. |
adedammy009:Really!, which radio station is that?😂 Me gan sef I’m guilty of “casting” it by coming to start this thread to create awareness lol😂😂😂. And the awareness is not only among Nigerians oh, you need to see how Brazil folks are also applying in large numbers. I don’t see priority dates being current anytime soon sha and I have a feeling the they might make the requirements more stringent sef (I hear RFE rates are higher now). Already, PhD holders are beefing master’s degree holders that came to cast the whole thing for them.😀 Interesting times ahead! |
Mandem101:🌚🌚🌚 In the words of a friend; “EB visa don cast”😀 |
adedammy009:Thank you! |
adedammy009:Hi @adedammy009, please do you have any link you could share similar to this drive but more specific to EB1 sample petition letters/recommendations/RFE etc? Thanks! |
NaijaMercy:You should be good to go and I’m pretty sure you know this! Go through previous pages of the thread. There are lots of info on attorneys that previous applicants have used, some DIY resources as well. I know one of the pages has a google drive link of several samples of files for DIY. All the best! |

Cousiim:Hello, I’ll interpret your question as “Can an individual move from F-1 (student visa) straight to Greencard upon adjustment of status (AOS) in the US?” The answer is YES! |
mayowa94:That’s a long shot!, I really can’t answer that, there are lots of factors to consider. Are you applying from within the US or outside? If you’re within the US, was your application concurrently filed (I-140 and I-485 together)? Generally, people say adjustment of status (for those applying for greencard within the US) is faster than consular processing (applying from outside the US). |
Mandem101:That EB2 progression of just one week from last month’s isn’t too nice sha lol. I expected better oh. Anyways, we meuvvve!🤗 |
adedammy009:For folks that a company filed for them (not NIW), they have to go through a PERM labor certification process. The labor certification (usually a long process) has to first be approved before they can go ahead to file their I-140 with USCIS. The priority date for these category of people is usually the date their their PERM labor certification was received by the US department of labor. You can read more about it here: https://www.dol.gov/agencies/eta/foreign-labor/programs/permanent |
mayowa94:Hi, I would guess that what you mean is that your labor certification was filed in September 2022. Hence, your priority date is September 2022. You need to provide a better context when asking questions, cos lots of folks here probably skipped the labor certification process because we filed our I-140’s under the National Interest Waiver (NIW) category. Back to your question. If I understand you correctly, your I-140 application was received by USCIS on Aug. 24, 2023 and it was filed with premium processing. All things being equal, you should receive a response soon. Per USCIS, premium processing usually takes within 15 calendar days, but in some cases, could take up to 45 calendar days. See here; https://www.uscis.gov/forms/all-forms/how-do-i-request-premium-processing Wish you all the best! |
Hi All ,Thanks for keeping the thread active!, I see that the consular processing guys have taken over from those of us currently in the US with adjustment of status applications. ![]() Appreciate everyone’s input! |
