skunk:
Same thing I did on www.niglyrics.com

You use apache mod_rewrite.

Google it. There are lots of resources on it.

But no offense intended, I think nigeriaport is using a CMS. aint sure though.
Ya its using a CMS. Drupal. In my opinion its the best one out there, heavily modifiable to your needs and a huuuge support system. Beats developing from scratch any day, unless you're trying to build software for an online enabled missile or something.

Some really great sites use drupal as their foundation:
www.popsci.com
www.theonion.com
www.observer.com
www.myplay.com
http://www.mtv.co.uk/
http://warnerbrosrecords.com/
http://www.nowpublic.com/
http://www.savannahnow.com/
http://www.fastcompany.com/

But of course if you don't know html, php, css, mysql, and on occasion javascript and ajax, you can't make the drupal CMS look or function anything like the sites above, including nigeriaport. I'd definitely recommend drupal to anyone interested in messing around with a CMS though.
TravelRe: Map Of Nigerians All Over The World by nport(op): 8:15am On Apr 30, 2008
It doesn't use your actual address or anything. When I signed up it told me to place an approximate location on an interactive map and not to put my exact location. I helped build part of the site, though I didn't construct that portion of it.
CultureNigerians Jumping From Airplanes! Would You Ever Do It? by nport(op): 7:36am On Apr 30, 2008
Have you ever gone skydiving? Would you ever go?

There is a news article about it and a video on the second page:

I for one might consider it, but I think I would have to travel somewhere outside Nigeria to do it.
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Will Split Soon! by nport(m): 7:31am On Apr 30, 2008
I think that there is hope for Nigeria. What we need is to see ourselves as a Nation. It sound impossible, but I think Nigerians abroad are not as cynical as the ones living in the country. And I believe that Nigerians have good reason to be cynical, but it will not make our situation any better. Yes Nigeria is in a horrible state, but what we need is for people to stop venting and take action. If you think politicians are corrupt, then why not run for politics? If you think we need infrastructure, why not start a business and make lots of money and contribute to the community.

If you, an honest person, and are afraid to run for politics, then who will? The greedy and corrupt? Yes, they are already in office and will keep running for it so long as you're afraid.

Whether you're a northerner or southerner, the only people in the world who will ever care about Nigerians are Nigerians. America doesn't care for Nigeria outside what can benefit America and the same goes with every other country. Do you want to know Nigeria's only hope? Each other! All we have is each other. Lets not loose that too.

Splitting Nigeria will be the biggest disaster of the 21st century. We have to stay together.

I just read this article: http://www.nigeriaport.com/feature/2008/apr/africans-and-self-preservation

It details a little bit about nigerians being afraid of things (like politics for example)

$6000 - $10,000. Very nice looking site, im sure the asp.net coding wasn't very easy. I just checked the naira conversion for $6000 and I'm surprised it is around 700,00 N like they said above. So yes, 700,000 N it is!

A website I had a hand in creating is www.nigeriaport.com

WebmastersRe: Designing A Website: For Beginners by nport(m): 5:58am On Apr 30, 2008
If you're looking for a great tool to use to build sites, I recommend drupal (www.drupal.org). Its an open source software you can use. www.nigeriaport.com was built using drupal and you can see the quality that it can produce.

You'll need to at least know how to use a web server, ftp, basic mysql, basic php, moderate html, to be able to use it, but if you can its well worth it.
WebmastersRe: Nigerian Projects Site - see for yourself by nport(m): 5:53am On Apr 30, 2008
The design isn't bad, but you should try to use a more modern approach. You know, web 2.0
