Business › Re: Upwork Thread (Questions/Help/Advice) by nurd(m): 5:08pm On Sep 11

You have to bid for low quality jobs to build up your profile up again. Use your connects to get a few low paying jobs, do extremely well on them, get five stars, and start applying to higher paying jobs until you get top rated again. Then you start getting invites.

The problem with upwork now is that, you're more likely to be hired when invited than when you apply to jobs. Unless you have hundreds of connects, then you can eventually get a job after apply to a lot of jobs.

Upwork still pays. But you have to spend a lot before getting any decent job.

reverendfather:
I would like to get back on upwork, I miss it, made some cool cash from 2017 to 2021, then I entered the real corporate world as I was tired of staying indoors living in isolation. But I need to get back in the game, checked my account saw that I lost my top rated badge but the account is still very much active, I noticed you guys now purchase connects, we got them for free back then, up to 80 connects, I had over 140connects and I needed just 2 connects to bid for jobs.

In trying to purchase connects I noticed they cost 0.15usd per 1, that's quite high, then I noticed people are spending 15+ connects bidding for jobs, that's on the extremely high side. Just wow.

Roughly around 3 USD to bid for a project? One you are not guaranteed to secure? Please someone should guide me here.

Question: what's the success rate on average in securing a gig and how much do you roughly spend on connects to get gigs
