Sports / Biggest Transfer In Premiership This Season: Mesut Ozil(the €45M Player) by nutrendie: 8:57am On Sep 05, 2013
Nobody would have thought that Arsenal will be paying the highest transfer fee in premiership not to talk of the record tranfer for a German international. The €45M paid by Arsenal is the biggest sale in Real history (€42M for Robinho in 2008 was the previous high). Ozil is also second-largest in English football - with only Chelsea’s £50 million deal for Fernando Torres from Liverpool costing more.

There's no doubth about the quality of Mesut Ozil and he's an amazing signing for Arsenal. He was Real Madrid's best player after Cristiano Ronaldo and it's a major surprise that los Blancos' are willing to let him leave. Özil has been a youth national team member since 2006, and a member of the German national team since 2009. He gained international attention during the 2010 FIFA World Cup and was nominated for the Golden Ball Award, which is awarded to the tournament's best player. Özil started his senior career at hometown club Schalke in the Bundesliga in 2006, transferred to Werder Bremen in 2008 and transferred to Real Madrid in August 2010 following his breakout performance at the FIFA World Cup with Germany

In 2011, Özil ranked first in assists in major European and domestic competitions with 25. In 2012, he ranked first in assists in La Liga with 17. He was also one of the top assist providers in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012 with 3 in both.

Although spending €100M on Bale is not a joke and by selling Ozil, they were able to re-coup almost half of Bale's fee shows sign of good business not forgetting the fact that Real hace already recovered almost €60 million through the sales of Gonzalo Higuain, Raul Albiol and Jose Callejon to Napoli, all of that and more had been splashed on a summer spending spree which saw Perez purchase midfielder Asier Illarramendi for an estimated €38m, Isco for €30m, defender Dani Carvajal for €6.5m and pivot Casemiro for €6m thereby taking their net spend to €67M

Apart from the financial aspect, Ozil is a player that doesn't put in enough defensive work neither does he score enough goals( Arsenal beware). There's also a tendency to go missing mentally in the very big matches. When he was at his prime both physically and mentally, he could be unplayable - but that was by no means all of the time.

Sports / Buffon Set Sights On Equalling Fabio Cannavaro's 136-cap Record For Italy by nutrendie: 9:53pm On Sep 04, 2013

The 35-year-old will draw level with the former centre-back if he plays against Bulgaria and the Czech Republic in the Azzurri's upcoming World Cup qualifiers and admits the feat would bring great satisfaction.

Gianluigi Buffon has been in the squad since 1997 and a first choice since 1998. He was awarded his first cap for Italy senior team under Cesare Maldini on 29 October 1997, at the age of nineteen, as an injury replacement for Gianluica Pagliuca during the first leg of the 1998 World Cup qualification play-off against Russia played in Moscow. He was a member of the squad for the 1998 World Cup finals, but did not play a single game as Pagliuca remained first choice.

Buffon became the first choice goalkeeper during the Euro 2000 qualifying campaign and was due to start in goal during the finals under manager and former Italy goalkeeping legend Dino Zoff, but he broke his hand in a warm up match against Norway, just a few days before Italy's opening match against Turkey. His starting place was taken by backup goalkeeper Francesco Toldo and Christian Abbiati was called up as a replacement third keeper, with Francesco Antonioli being promoted to second keeper.

Buffon became the world's most expensive goalkeeper when he was transfered from Parma to Juventus in the summer of 2001 for €51 million and was handed the number 1 shirt as the starting goalkeeper, replacing former keeper Edwin Van der Sar, who had been sold to Fulham

He has been named the Serie A Goalkeeper of the Year a record nine times and was the winner of the 2006 Yashin Award following Italy's World Cup victory, in which Buffon was also elected to be part of the Team of the Tournament; an honour which he also received after reaching the final of the 2012 European Championships. Buffon is the only goalkeeper to have won the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year Award, which he won in 2003; he also won the award for best Goalkeeper that year and was voted into the UEFA Team of the Year in 2003, 2004 and 2006. In 2006, Buffon was runner-up for the Ballon d'Or and was elected to be part of the FIFPro World XI in 2006 and 2007

He has been named the IFFHS (International Federation of Football History & Statistics) goalkeeper of the year four times and was named goalkeeper of the 21st century and of the decade by the same organisation.
