Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State and Presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023 general election has decried the inhumane situation of staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. He posted via his X handle. The affected staff of the University that were employed between 2019 and 2020 have gone five years without receiving a dime as salary. A situation which Peter describes not just a moral issue but also a humanitarian issue. He called on the federal government to seek immediate solution to the issue by including the affected staff to the payment platform and also pay the arrears.

But UNIZIK management should as a matter of urgency sort the lingering issue of some staff unpaid salaries for over 5 years. This is inhumanity at it's peak.

They protested early last year and was reported by some media outlets. There's been series of engagements with the school management and they kept assuring them that they're on it. I believe, many had to engage in side hustles for survival like transportation within the school. You and I have heard in the past where some state governments were owing like 5 years salaries. This is Nigeria

Some staff of NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY, AWKA are today protesting as a result of their unpaid salaries of 4-5 years. Some staff members of the institution that were employed between 2019 and 2020 are yet to receive a dime as salary and they're calling on the Federal government and other appropriate authorities to come to their aid and savage their situation.

Same empty promises that UNIZIk school management has been giving for the past 4-5 years with no solution in sight. 4-5 years with no salaries and all you guys continually say is calm down even in the face of harsh economic realities. Nigerians need to ask the UNIZIK management why staff employed since 2019/2020 are yet to be paid salaries and proper investigation carried out by appropriate authorities. This is wickedness and must be resolved ASAP.
