Ihuomadinihu: I don't understand this 'hard talk' by some people on this thread. We are all here to share our opinions cos we have different mindsets. If you say the new movies have better technical productions, then i agree with you. If you say it has more appeal amongst the youths, then i agree with you. If you say the new movies display the essence of what it means to be Nigerian/African,then it's a No. Are all the 90s movies bad? No. Are all the new movies worthwhile? No. Some of them are as crappy as the old nollywood movies. Sorry* this the same person, let me continue from where is stopped. Yes,some of the new movies are simply overated and crappy. They can only boost of goodlooking fellows, posh locations, better audio and sound quality. But they are as corny as the old nollywood sector. Take the Last flight, for instance, that was an attempt to tell a story about flight mishaps and they failed woefully. While watching it,i felt they were trying to rip off American Airforce 1 movie. Let's face it,Nigeria is not ripe enough enough for such movies. Technologically,we are not there yet. The movie was a total mess, the plot was just there, the CIG effects were messy and hillarious. Wetin concern Nigeria and Technological and Science fictions. Are these stuffs obtainable in Nigeria at the moment. Can we boost of well equiped security gadgets on our streets and airpots? |

badinfluence: And what's off about them.. it doesn't appeal to the masses? Probably because they are so used to those redundant movies of old. Movies that are produced under a week, flooding the market. Please tell me what makes a good movie and how you can compare a movie like 'Igodo" to 'the figurine' Igodo is a classic Nigerian movie. Figurine is a contemporary Nigerian movie. I expect you to reel of the names of epic movies of new nollywood and not something like figurine. When i mention old nollywood am not referencing the movies released after 4 days with 5 parts. Pls read and understand. |

badinfluence: Oga so until there's a scene involving a witch doctor, a Nigerian movie isn't depicting culture. There's something called evolution dude, and that's what's going on. You can't just conclude that the average Nigerian's life revolves around divination. 'living in bondage ' is an epic.. a good one. But that doesn't mean all nollywood movies should stress on the same theme. And the fact that these new actors look up to the older ones doesn't make them lousy actors. Even hollywood evolved if you don't know, moreover their diversity in movies is a key role to their success. Your point about a 50 year old Nigerian holds no water.. likewise your "local content " angle. Sit down and watch these movies again. Get the message, take note of the cinematography, watch the actors. Take your time. Maybe you watch movies like you watch music videos As for the actors,i've only been able to pick out a few of them with exceptional talents that can stand side by side with actors of old nollywood. Just like you mentioned that some old actors got roles based on long legs, the same way some of these new incompetent actors get roles too. Besides, half of the new movies have a blend of old and new actors in order to achieve relative success. Figurine had Omoni,Ramsey and Kunle. It only takes a special talent(new) to carry some of these new movies. Living funeral had to bring in Liz Benson. Like a said, a very exceptional talent is Oc Ukeje,i saw what he did in White Waters' and it was commendable. Both eras should be combined, that's how a successful film industry grows. A nice blend of local content and good technical skills will do wonders. |

If you don't apperciate my opinions on both eras, then simply walk away. All old nollywood classics did not revolve around divination and witch doctors. And i never said that all of the new nollywood movies are bad, there is always a sort of 'am trying to mimic hollywood feel around in it' You can't compare the technology in some of the new movies with the oldies because we have better technical skills at the moment. I already stated that before. I have only seen better cinematography, picture and sound quality, better costumes and makeup in the new movies but they don't have a large appeal to most people out there. |

NMDb: My brother wake up, you can't compare Igodo, Living in Bondage etc with what old Nollywood are churning out now. Do you know how much they used in shooting those movies then? The amount they used in shooting those movies as at then is equivalent to what those old Nollywood filmmakers are still using now to shoot part 1 - 4 in less than a week, how the heck do you think they'll make a quality movie with such amount now naira value has depreciated, in fact movies of then has only part 1 which is why there are new Nollywood movies, the different between movies then is that both bad and good ones are being marketed same way, why there is new Nollywood isn't all about quality production, it is just portraying movies how it's supposed to be portrayed, shooting one part only, then if the audience like it part two comes, even if you want to shoot multiple parts each part will at least makes its own sense. Lord of the rings 1-3, Matrix 2&3, The Hobbits 1-3 etc where all shot back to back, each part making its own sense.
@bolded, we have the worse actors/actress in old Nollywood, those guys only auditioned people they'll collect money from, that's why Ramsey, segun, Uche jumbo, Genevieve, Omotola stepped up and left the old industry for good, New Nollywood? cast rubbish nah, and cinema go reject to screen your movie. The different between old and new Nollywood is old Nollywood represents = we don't care as far as peeps like you will watch but new Nollywood represents = we shoot 'cause it is passion driven and we want the movie to worth our audience time. Like i said,i am currently busy at yhe moment. Apart from Oct 1,none of these new movies have left any impression on my mind. Basically, most of them are deviating from what it means to be Nigerian. There is this conscious attempt to appear urban, contemporary and westernized in these new movies. Besides, when i mentioned Living in Bondage and the rest, you can clearly see that i never mentioned the recent old nollywood craps like the royal gate, royal prince stuffs. I would say i prefer the pre nollywood movies of the early 90s to both old and new nollywood. As for the actors,i would probably vouch for guys like Oc Ukeje,Blossom Chukwujekwu,Tope Tedola,Bimpe of Tinsel and a few others that i've seen in recent productions. The rest of them don't measure up. Am yet to see people that can fill up the place of Pete Edochie, Olu Jacobs,Liz Benson,Bimbo Akintola, Hilda Dokubo etc. I've not seen exceptional talents relative to some of the aforementioned names. These new actors will tell you they all look up to them. These new nollywood productions are cinema stuffs, you can't slot it in for the average 50yr old person out there and expect him or her to relate to some of these movies. I have seen some of them, like when love happens, love or something like that, alan poza etc. And they have nothing to do with the lives of the average Nigerian on the streets, there is virtually little or no local content. Why are Bollywood, Thai, and Hollywood movies popular worldwide? Cos they stick to what's obtainable within the immediate environment. Both periods should be combined otherwise nollywood aint going anywhere. New nollywood or not,we have better movies from other African countries, maybe till new nollywood fetches more prestigious AMAA awards,we can truly say that it's better than the old period. |

badinfluence: The new movies aren't attempts at mimicking hollywood, rather they are attempts at raising the standard of the Nigerian movie industry.. and I doubt you've actually seen these new actors. These are people with exceptional talents, some actually passed through film academies. Gone are the days when roles were shared amongst a specific set of people. I'd be happy to recommend some new nollywood movies for you, I doubt you've actually had time to see these movies. Lol,i've seen enough new movies and there is something off about most of them. I agree that we now have good picture and sound quality etc. But it doesn't appeal to majority of the masses out there. |

Nothing beats the old nollywood. We had seasoned and trained actors. This new nollywood industry(cinema movie) is just trying to mimic hollywood. I prefer some of those good old movies like Igodo, living in bondage etc. Those were the movies that established Nigeria on the movie industry scene. I will make more contributions on this topic...am busy at the moment. |

Where these issues avoidable? Yes. Everything is going wrong based on a cause and effect premise. That's what the producers want you to understand. How they intend to manipulate the characters after that initial deceit is entirely up to them. As it stands, everybody has lost Vik's trust and he will do things that will keep him away from his loved ones. I don tire for this issue abeg. |

Forwetinnah:
 I taya my dear
The script is not even on the net..what anyone would find on the net after digging is a storyline/plot so I don't see how the phrase "work with the script" comes into play here. People are allowed to disagree with plots/story lines...with soaps, scripts are written as the soap progresses. They can decide to change anything and viewers are allowed to voice their displeasure about certain characters (nothing like go with the storyline/Script/Plot). GOT is good example of what I'm talking about...the books says one thing; the series heading for a different direction, why? Fans complained about certain things. Let's just enjoy "breaking free" while it's still on Make we just dey observe You guys are just stretching this issue o. Maybe 'script' is an overexaggeration here. Am talking about the plot/synopsis/story line that has summarized what the series is all about. It's all over the net. Even if is not online,in developed countries, producers summarize what each movie or soap is all about. We just watch to see if the actors do justice to the storyline. Such things don't happen in Nigeria,so our thoughts are free to run wild. For this particular series,i am get to see any justification for tagging Adi and Gulabi shaddy. If the show progresses and they reveal any motive behind their actions, then i will agree with you. For now, they are acting based on the fall out of Vikram's lie. I don't see any motive behind any shady deals. Am only saying we should be guarded, objective and logical. I will be the first to condemn any character,if the storyline has ulterior motives behind the character. |

Her beauty overshadows her little acting skills. I was tripping for former Adi,i no go lie. He is handsome and more realistic. I felt all the emotions he displayed on screen. Vikram is also a fantastic actor. I also like Gulabia's laid back acting and she can dance too. Sugni is good, but has the capacity to grow snice her mother is an actress too. I've reservations concerning her skin tone, snice Indians are crazy about white skin tone. |

Me included At this point, this is getting unhealthy and childish for this thread. You are the one consciously lifting my replies cos i am against some of your favourite characters. I've not forced my opinion on you nor dragged you out to argue over nothing in particular. Up until now, this thread has been fun and people made their contributions. Forwetinnah: Jeeeez...must it correspond with the script?? Do critics write their reviews according to scripts? Smh...you see my comments as arguments because I don't agree with your opinions. "Putting things that doesn't exist into the minds of others"...well that's my opinion. It's up to anyone to agree with me OR not. Movie critics base their review on what the plot/Script entails. If the plot says somebody is good/evil,they will look out for those attributes and review how they character reflected it. I didn't say you should take my opinion but what the story line spells out matters more than any justification of sentiments. Yes,it's called arguments and am not about to go back to this issue again. |

Forwetinnah: The hassle is that you won't just let go....
It is normal for people to question characters o...there's no nothing like "go with the script". People have been questioning Arti's Miss goody2shoes and Mumu-ish attitude...i dont see anyone making a fuss about that. Some people like her..others are fed up, and the earth still rotates Like i said it's ok if you have your views. That argument has already been concluded until the other lady brought it up. How is my observation suddenly bothering you? I pointed out something i see as a bollywood trend and she even confirmed it...you are the one taking things very personal here. Seriously,if you do not fancy them just step aside! I wasn't having the discussion with you in the first place. |
TV/Movies › Re: Zee World Movies And Soaps Official Fan Page by Nwangoma: 2:34pm On Jul 11, 2015 |
Forwetinnah: What are the things that have been said that doesn't belong "in the script"? You were the one advocating for a Younger Vikram. ..was that part of the script? That people make conclusions on certain characters based on their observation doesn't make them wrong. It is called an "opinion". Everyone is free to have one..we see things differently. I never asked you not to have your opinion. The irony is that your opinion doesn't correspond with the scripts, unless you read something online. Thereby putting things that doesn't exist into the minds of others. Why does all your reply sound like you are always trying to have a heated argument? There is a difference between structural criticism and attacks. I can't remember talking to you,i was having a decent discussion with the other lady. |

But to leverage one form of sentiment or the other. As for the age thing, Deepika was already popular long before Chennai Express. And i can tell you that the movie made more impact in Southern India. Deepika is from Southern india, and the movie is about Tamil nadu..Chennai. There are so many things involved in casting which are not right. Am not saying you are wrong about the popular actor balance. But there is a way to make it tasteful. For instance, someone like Salman Khan looks ridiculously younger than his age,he can be paired with Aarti. Nothing spoil...on the other hand, Salman will look like Bhavany's Uncle. There is no guarantee that young girls will have stronger chemistry with older men. I've said my bit! |

Pls,am not ready for another round of arguements snice it's now getting down to personal attacks. If you don't like my observations, then just scroll down. The Indians involved have said they do not like that pairing again neither does it work in Nigeria. When it comes to Sharu khan,he has his peer group like Madhuri, Juhi, Kajol Devgan,Tabu,Sonali etc. Those actresses will always want to be paired up with him. In Chennai Express, they paired him with Deepika and indians said he looks like her Uncle. It's possible to pair young and old but the physical age difference should not be off. Oh,sorry. I just saw ur comment. I agree that we need adequate funds and equipments but what happens after this? Great equipments and money has never produced blockbusters in the world. What nollywood lacks is mainly technical depth and creativity and not necessarily money. Most of our technical crews lack proper formal traning on whatever equipments they have. At the end of the day, nollywood employ foreign technicians and our musicians go aboard to shoot music videos. Not long ago,GEJ gave them 3billion naira to help them get technical skill development. That being said, nollywood lacks technical competence. Locations and good equipments are secondary issues. Those ones can be hired with funds. I believe the emphasises should be on quality scripts, sound actors and technical competence. You will agree with me that we have uncountable mediocre actors in nollywood? (Ihuoma). |
