Politics2023: I Am Still Searching For My Running Mate – Tinubu by NwaNimo1(op): 9:57pm On Jun 26, 2022
The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu on Sunday revealed that he is still searching for his running mate.

The former Governor of Lagos State said this at the 60th birthday celebration of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila.

Tinubu appreciated Gbajabiamila for supporting his political ambition of ruling Nigeria.

The APC presidential candidate also commended the Deputy Speaker, Idris Wase for being a dependable ally.

He said, “I could see a Deputy (Wase) sitting down there too, you are very good symbols of unity, dependability, and honesty, thank you. Thank you for both of you, you’ve not rocked the boat. I will need to learn from both of you, how you made the pair work because I’m still searching for my running mate.

“What you did during my primary (APC presidential election) is a story for another day. I’ve spent more time, too many times and people might be bored, they might be envious too, they might be jealous. I won a landslide, I thank you.

“Femi, with your determination, and reach, you are a contributor to our democratic growth, thank you. It is about charting a path to success, you’ve done a good job and I say thank you, thank you.”

PoliticsEkweremadu Saga: Nwamini David Is 22 Years-old – Immigration Boss by NwaNimo1(op): 7:01pm On Jun 26, 2022
The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, Isah Jere Idris, has affirmed that Mr Ukpo Nwamini David, the person at the heart of the alleged organ harvesting involving former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, is 22 years -old.

He added that the service adhered strictly to due process in issuing the country’s ordinary passport to David.

Speaking with selected journalists, Sunday, the Nigeria Immigration Service boss said David applied for the international passport using the service’s portal after “which he visited the Gwagwalada office in Abuja of the immigration with his birth certificate issued by the National Population Commission, National Identification Number (NIN) and a letter of indigineship from the Ebonyi State Liason office confirming he is from the state.

The Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service said from all the available information provided by Ukpo Nwamini David showed that he was born on October 12, 2000.

“The Nigerian Immigration service relies on information and Documentation from other government agencies like National Population Commission and the National Identification Management Commission.”

He said the case of David was not an exception as the Immigration Service followed all the due process in issuing the international passport to him

Isah Jere Idris, therefore, appealed to the public to know that as a Nigerian, David was validly issued a Nigerian International passport.

Asked if the British Government or the National Assembly has contacted the Immigration office regarding the case of David, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Immigration Service said nobody has contacted the service.

Recall that Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, were remanded in custody in London on Thursday charged with plotting to have a 15-year-old boy taken into the United Kingdom to harvest his organs.

PoliticsFrustration Driving Nigerian Youths Into Drug Abuse – Peter Obi by NwaNimo1(op): 4:44pm On Jun 26, 2022
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, and former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has identified bad governance, Nigeria’s economic woes, frustration and hopelessness as some of the factors fuelling drug abuse among the youths in the country.

In a message to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Obi lamented that many Nigerian youths were taking to drugs as escape route from the harsh economic and political realities in the nation.

According to him, if adequate measures were not put in place to arrest the ugly trend and combat the menace, the “leaders of tomorrow” would remain chained to substance abuse while the future of the country continues to dim.

He said: “Nigeria today has the highest drug abuse prevalence in the world. While the global average is 5.5%, Nigeria battles with 14.4% drug abuse prevalence.

“In 2021, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) found out that 40 percent of our youths, aged between 18 and 35, were deeply involved in drug abuse. What is more painful is that substance abuse is higher among youths in their productive age.

“Accumulated leadership failure over the years in the country has continued to rob our youths of their bright future, thus deepening their addiction to substance abuse.”

While commending NDLEA for the good work they have been doing, Obi called on other relevant agencies to intensify their efforts against the ugly menace, and to continue with a widespread awareness on the dangers of drug abuse.

He argued that the knowledge of the adverse effects of substance abuse will drastically reduce the scourge in the country.

Obi also encouraged the youths to avoid all forms of substance abuse and focus on being productive and helping the country to grow, which, he added, could guarantee them a good livelihood and better future.

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is celebrated on June 26 every year.

PoliticsEkweremadu: Ukpo Is 25 Not 21 – Brother Of Alleged Victim Says by NwaNimo1(op): 2:10pm On Jun 26, 2022
The younger brother of David Ukpo Nwanmini, an alleged victim of organ trafficking, involving Senator Ike Ekwerrmadu and his wife, Beatrice, in the United Kingdom, said his sibling is 25 years old as against 15 claimed by the British Police.

The brother, Jonathan Ukpo Nwanmini, who claimed to be 22 years old, told Sunday Vanguard that the victim is his elder brother.

He said: ”David is my elder brother, we are both of the same father with different mothers and we hail from Ebonyi State. I will be 22 years old by next month and David is 25 years old. I am aware that he travelled because he told me. He did not disclose the country he was travelling to. He simply told me he was going to school abroad.

“After some months of not hearing from him, I got his number from his girlfriend and called him. I asked about his studies and work.

“He said it was fine, but that he was not working yet, as he needed to go to school first before he could be given a working paper. I told him about our dad who was not feeling fine.

“This was the conversation we had this month since January when he travelled. He was staying with us here in Ikotun before he left. We both sell phone accessories. We spoke last week. We even spoke again this week.”

The newspaper quoted another businessman in Ikotun, who pleaded anonymity as saying that: “David left Nigeria in January. He told us that someone promised to sponsor his education in the UK. He never mentioned the name of the person, but from what I have read online, it might be that the person was an intermediary between David and the former Deputy Speaker.”

THEWILL had reported that Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, were on Thursday, arrested and arraigned before an Uxbridge Magistrates Court in West London, for alleged trafficking of a 15-year-old David Ukpo into the United Kingdom for a concealed medical procedure to harvest and transplant his kidney to their ailing daughter.

The Metropolitan Police had said that investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation in May, 2022.

But a letter written by Ekweremadu, suggested that the lawmaker disclosed to the British embassy why he was taking David Ukpo to London.

Senator Ekweremadu, according to the letter, was seeking a kidney transplant for his sick daughter, Sonia, and the procedure was scheduled to take place at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

Meanwhile, the former Deputy Senate President and his wife have been remanded on the order of the Uxbridge Magistrates Court, after it denied the couple bail.

The court subsequently adjourned till July 7, ahead of an advisory by the Attorney General on issues of Jurisdiction.

PoliticsBuhari To Nigerians Abroad: You Can Now Invest Seamlessly In Nigeria by NwaNimo1(op): 11:14pm On Jun 25, 2022

President Buhari has said with the establishment of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Nigerians abroad can now seamlessly contribute their quota to national development, especially by investing in the economy.

The President said this on Saturday while speaking at a town hall meeting with Nigerians in the Diaspora on the margins of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), in Kigali, Rwanda.

Buhari urged them to continue to uphold the good image of Nigeria by obeying the laws of their host country.

He hailed Nigerian youths excelling at home and abroad, saying the country would welcome inputs and investments from compatriots with international exposure for the economy to thrive.

Buhari, in a statement by his spokesman, Femi Adesina, said, ‘‘It gives me great pleasure to be in Kigali, Rwanda and to meet with you, members of the Nigerian Diaspora as part of my regular meetings with Nigerians wherever I visit other countries.

‘‘Let me begin by congratulating and commending Yewande Adebowale for emerging as one of the top four winners at the Commonwealth Youth competition at the Kigali Startup Festival 2022 at the Commonwealth Youth Forum.

‘‘I also commend Esther Olanrewaju and Favour Aderinto who are recipients of the Lakshmi Subramanian CMU-Africa Student Excellence Awards for Masters in Information Technology and Electrical and Computer Engineering respectively.

‘‘I am proud of you all, and I remain ever proud of our Nigerian youths excelling, at home and abroad.”

The President expressed the determination of his administration to work with Nigerians both at home and abroad to develop the economy and create a productive and peaceful nation that catered to the needs of its citizens.

He added that his administration was equally working “assiduously” to protect all Nigerians whether at home or abroad to feel safe and attain their full potentials in life.

The Nigerian High Commissioner to Rwanda, Ambassador Aishatu Musa, told President Buhari that Nigerians in the country were generally well behaved, and their population had swelled from 100 to 400 in recent years.

She added that President of the Association of Nigerians was Professor Umaru Wali, a Dean at the University of Rwanda, who hails from Sokoto State.

The event, coordinated by Chairman NIDCOM, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, saw the following Nigerians interacting with the President: Kelechi Reginald, Chief Executive Officer of an investment firm, Uduak Udoh, who runs an architectural consultancy, Muyiwa Omololu, Managing Director of Rope Ways Transit, a company that builds cable cars, Favour Aderinto and Esther Olanrewaju, Lakshmi Subramaniam Excellence Award Winners, and Yewande Adebowale, who runs Salubata, an outfit that makes shoes from recycled plastic waste.

Also at the event were Mr Geoffrey Onyeama and Chief Sunday Dare, Ministers of Foreign Affairs, and Youth and Sports Development, respectively.
