So sorry about your experience. However, you need to give more information about the plants affected. The crop, the variety, the age and better if you tan take a picture(s) so that our ogas can have a better information on the matter at hand.

1,the cost is a yearly cost for the local government paper(you renew yearly)
2.according construction, pick ups irrespective of usage(private or commercial needs an hackney permit.
3.same as a bus
4.normally,the right way to register a bus is to have a commercial number-plate (red plate) on it,but if it has been registered with a blue plate number,it is necessary you get a hackney permit on the vehicle.
5.yes sir an hackney permit is needed.

Learnt a lot here. Encouraged me to go back into farming after a terrible experience of theft in 2018. I'll wish that experience on no one as I lost everything but God dey to sustain me.

After so many challenges (which I'll give details of later probably I'll start that post I've always procastinated on NL) finally laid my drips and planted. Please I need answer to the following question.

What is the best way, method and process to preserve harvested cucumbers if you are unable to go to market on same day? Being mindful that we are not talking of a few cucumbers but cucumbers that can be like 10 or more bags. Thanks in anticipation of your reply(s)

Thanks for answering, I was just wondering.

okoroemeka:
the land you are referring to is our own farm in the southeast not Southwest, the land has been disvirgined since time I'm memorial,we just levelled the old cassava mounds, set up the drip and dug holes for manure at intervals were the water is dropping, looking for a virgin land in the southeast is like looking for a virgin in the maternity ward, you can only see such things mostly in the west, north,Midwest and parts of cross river.

Hello Okoroemeka,
I must say well done. You are doing a great job.
I have a few questions. Did you ridge this particular land or plough it? it looks like you planted on the flat yet you said it's virgin land.

okoroemeka:
With our never ending quest to touch #500k from one plot of land we have reviewed our spacing and planting strategy and found loopholes after careful experimentation on a smaller farm we decided to shrink our previous spacing even further, the result is 3,190 crops in a land measuring 104ft by 51ft,and fully covered by 1000 meter's of drip tape and also we planted at 50/50 ratio cu 999(a proven old school monocieous variety) and lion seed popular f1 a high yielding PF variety,we have known this tight spacing will work now in the dry season, but another good question is will it work during the rainy season?I think the answer will be a capital NO!

Please I have the following questions regarding pickup and other vehicles.
1Please is this cost (LG emblem, etc) a one off cost or is it yearly? (I believe that this is in addition to the normal vehicle registration cost).
2. Do private pickups need hackney permit?
3. Do private buses need hackney permit?
4. if I want to use a bus as private (e.g just on a farm to move produce), can I register it with a private number or must it be commercial?
5. If I want to carry load with my private car, I believe a hackney permit is needed. Please correct me if I'm wrong
6. Can I legally install solar panels on my vehicles (whether car,Jeep, bus, truck or pickup).
thank you.

if you drive the vehicle between states eg you drive lagos to abuja to east etc,on a regular basis,it cost 17k

Please help, my eggplant seedlings are beginning to show white/yellow dots on their leaves and the leaves are yellowing and withering. It's my first time trying eggplant. I couldn't find Ridomil in d market so I bought the closest I could find which is Chinese made, ultimax plus which I sprayed yesterday. I also have said. What is the best alternative to Ridomil gold. what is wrong with my seedlings, is it that they are root bound or nutrient deficient or diseased? Please help

It looks very much like marketer.I have planted marketer before.

OluchiDelly:
A Jos farmer confirmed its truly opv packaged in 100g and Jos-like. But he cannot relate with the name cos they plant more of hybrids (Darina in particular).
Since the shape is not pointsett, marketmore or supermarketer, I am of the opinion is marketer that was well fed. Right nutrients/elements can aid more pigmentation in fruits/leaves, same way their absence can make them appear pale.

@okoroemeka and others, please how long does the petrol in the petrol pumping machine last. That is, what is the estimated fuel consumption of the petrol pump (litres and hours). I've always used the electric pumps (have like 4) but I want to increase acreage and do proper budgeting for the pump to avoid bring cash strapped. I've already bought a 6.5hp pump. Thanks.
AgricultureRe: 30k Twice A Week From My Pepper Farm by nxtEinsten: 8:05pm On Dec 06, 2019
if you are using plastic mulch in dry season I'll suggest that you also use drip or irrigate extensively. the damage is caused by heat as plastic will heat the soil but if u irrigate regularly the soil will be kept cool hence minimizing the risk. No one can expect to lay plastic on the ground in this hot weather and not water the plants, it would be double jeopardy

Psalm4kute:
When is it best to use plastic mulch?? I once heard it's a bad idea to mulch during dry season.. and better to mulch during raining season as it helps to control weeds and limit excess water from going directly to the root of plant.. and also nematodes in the roots of plants like tomatoes and cucumber
AgricultureRe: 30k Twice A Week From My Pepper Farm by nxtEinsten: 10:07am On Dec 06, 2019
Excellent idea using the rice hay. You are very ingenious.

okoroemeka:
what we will use for mulch will be rice hay, rice is being harvested now and the hay is now getting too much around the rice fields,we will just use our truck and pack as many as we like,
AgricultureRe: 30k Twice A Week From My Pepper Farm by nxtEinsten: 4:48pm On Nov 29, 2019
Just to add to your points. How deep (or how much) you irrigate also matters. If you have soil that holds moisture, if you irrigate deeply you will need to irrigate less often. It is better to irrigate deeply to enhance deep root growth than just watering slightly. If you can mulch with various materials it will help your soil retain moisture. Mulching is one thing I can to do this season. I can't afford plastic mulch yet but I will find creative ways to much heavily this dry season.

okoroemeka:
you will not irrigate speculatively, peppers don't have high water requirement like cucumbers and the type of soil also is a factor,on fast draining soil every other day,but heavy soils can be irrigated 3-4 days interval, but your best bet is to watch and listen to your crops they will tell you when they need water,at the hottest time of the day they will wilt and look droopy it's time to irrigate.
AgricultureRe: 30k Twice A Week From My Pepper Farm by nxtEinsten: 11:47am On Nov 28, 2019
Excellent points. I will start using cocopeat with them for my nursery as suggested. Soil does not cut it at all, it doesn't hold enough water for the cell volume.

Degis:
The Nursery tray are the best Nursery growing medium anyone can use. I pity those of you that speak against it because it is due to ignorance.

What the fellow suffered from was basically the following

1. He kept it in a place of little sunlight. The normal thing is to keep them under a net house

2. Too much watering. Watering the cocopeat he used, is quite tricky because they retain water for longer periods. I will advise that he spaces the watering to about once in 2 days

3. Cocopeat doesn’t have any nutrient inside of it except fibre. I will advise that he mixes it with dried poultry manure or better still compost and use foliar fertiliser in spraying the plants mixed with a surfactant like Super gro.

4. He should consider drenching if the plant leaves are yellowing. Which is the process where you dig a hole that can conveniently contain a tray, then cover it with a nylon and pour a solution of Potassium Nitrate mixed with water into it. Dip your Nursery tray with the germinating seeds into for 5 mins then remove.
You will find that your seeds become green again and germination rate becomes excellent

5. Those gangling and thing plants are struggling to survive because they don’t have any nutrients or inadequate nutrients. They won’t make it.

6. I laughed when Okoroemeka was talking about damping off. Obviously, he doesn’t know that you can’t have damping off if you use cocopeat, compost and foliar fertliser thus there is no need to use fungicide at all bc no soil is involved and as long as it is under a net house.

7. The Nursery tray is the easiest means to transplant bc with just a small push, the seedling comes popping out with the roots entangled with the soil. Who born damping off?.

8. I would advise you to buy your compost rather than making because of bacteria, fungi and virus that accompany those you make without quality control. Jubaili and several other seed sellers sell them.

I must concur with you on this. However seedling trays have their advantages and disadvantages I bought 30 nursery trays and my raised bed performed better though I must confess it's my first time using seedling trays to nurse peppers, they are however very easy to nurse tomatoes. The best was even the nursery beds that I sieved d soil so the particles were small and soft, I should use this soil in my trays too I would prefer even using deep square or rectangular plastic bowls or trays (circular ones work well they just take up more space) to using seedling tray. After this batch, I'll pack them up except for germination tests or maybe something else would come up.

I must confess however that it is so much easier to manage the seedlings in the seedlings trays, the spacing is just right but they setup easily if you. use soil which is why I might try peat next but I need information from those that have used it. My seedling trays (with soil) have they ti be watered every evening and morning consistently else the cells dry out and d seedling die. It's also time consuming to meticulously put one seed in each cell. However I must just confess, if one can be patient and manage it effectively, your seedlings can stay for four or five weeks or more in the trays (especially in the 50 or 72 cell) which is very cool. Also, they are made mobile so you can easily expose them to the sun though I believe sunlight will reduce the lifespan of the plastic seedling trays. Also, during rainy season, you can easily move them out of the rain to save your seedlings if exposed to rainfall. Also, if you are doing just a few hundred seedlings, you can easily set up your nursery at home in seedling trays and move them (in your car or truck) to the farm when they are ready for transplanting. This can be a lot convenient when one has a vehicle which was what I did. It's biggest advantage is the transplant shock it saves the seedlings from Om experiencing when planting them in the field. I hope to get a mister in future to help with the watering.

In conclusion, it is easier to manage the seedling beds

For those using cocopeat, please practically (from experience not theory) what is the advantage over soil and is there any special management.

raised bed is the best for me

AgricultureRe: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by nxtEinsten: 8:01pm On Nov 24, 2019
Instead of switching hoses. you can install 2 air valves ( in the middle of your PVC pipe) and fix the flexible hose in the middle of your divided pipe. You can then control each half of the land by opening the valve to the pipe for the side you want to water while closing the valve to the other side. if this is possible it would save the effort of continuously moving the hose. Just my 2 Kobo thoughts.

if I may ask, how frequently do u irrigate in a day and how often per week.

okoroemeka:
tangoalpha has hit the nail with a big hammer,we are using the pressure from a 1hp pump borehole and we discovered that the pressure is not reaching the last 10 ridges out of 56 ridges,if we have known valve connectors is better no matter the added cost, what we did was to divide the land in half and water first 25 ridges, then we switch the flexible hose to water the remaining, thank God we are still having light

Good job bro. Excellent. Thanks for answering

okoroemeka:
20 cm spacing interval between crops and 3 feet interval between rows,we are maximizing the space we have, during dry season farms are prepared more carefully because the cost and stress of irrigation is better mitigated on a farm that has high plant density,
AgricultureRe: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by nxtEinsten: 6:38pm On Nov 15, 2019
pls bro, what spacing did you eventually use, I mean your spacing within rows and between rows?

okoroemeka:
No retreat,No surrender,we will follow this dry season project to the bitter end,5000 crops in batch A,next week another 5000 for batch B, mother nature must surrender our money this dry season,no other options.
AgricultureRe: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by nxtEinsten: 2:08pm On Oct 31, 2019
You've got a scientific and practical mind. Well done. Please bros, make sure your trellis is higher than average so the plants have more vertical space

okoroemeka:
ok,this morning we brought out our measuring tape and staked out 20cm to see how it will look, from what I am seeing 20cm will do the job comfortably, some crops will miss the emitting point but we ran a small pilot drip on one ridge and found out that within minutes the whole furrow is already saturated with water so the crops will definitely get water regardlessly of the placing,so for our 1000 meter drip we will see a plant density of 5000 crops give or take.
AgricultureRe: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by nxtEinsten:
You are absolutely correct bro. 20cm-23cm would be the best spacing for optimum population. The problem is with the drip spacing which is at 30cm so it predetermines your intra row planting distance and hence your overall population. Pls if you have a solution/resolution to the above issue or know where one can get drip lines with that spacing, kindly let me know.

Personally, I will always hesitate to plant 2 seeds (placed together) per hole, I will still space them slightly apart on both sides of the emitter so that same emitter can feed them both but there will still be a spacing of about 6-10cm between them depending on your drip rate.

I Duff my hat's to both @okoroemeka and @wizs2019; learnt a lot from you guys. Thank you

Wizs2019:
Bros, If I were you, I would have just created one long planting "line" instead of the individual planting holes you have because you are losing a lot of planting space with the way you have it now. If you have a planting "line", what I would recommend is to plant with 20cm spacing instead of the 1 hole 1 seed then next hole 2 seed. I don't think it is smart to plant 2 seeds in the same spot, the plants with just get reduced amount of nutrients because they are occupying the same soil area. That's my 2 kobo.
AgricultureRe: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by nxtEinsten: 11:11am On Oct 30, 2019
Just to add my 2 cents to your thoughts; as you will be using drip, the risk of Downy mildew is further reduced as it cannot be readily spread on d farm via water splashing. however, ventilation is also key. A compromise in your situation would be planting 2 seeds in every other hole. I.e. 2 seeds and d next hole one seed. that might give u a population of 4800 and I believe might still give u a yield of at least 30% or 40% more. Goodluck in your endeavors

okoroemeka:
we still have our thinking caps on whether to plant one or two crops per hole,if we plant 1 per hole we will have 3200 crops but if we plant 2 per hole we will get 6400,we have adequate quantity of organic manure that we can afford to use 2 kg per hole if it comes to that, but there are other things to consider like ventilation, space stress etc,but the simple truth is that 6400 crops will yield at least 30-40% more than 3200 crops, the drip tape has dual emitters that will supply 8ltrs of water per hour to each hole so irrigation is also covered,do we go for good agricultural practice and give correct spacing of 30cm and harvest less or do we cram 2 crops per 30cm and definitely harvest more, which one will it be,dry season is coming and DM issues will minimal, which way do we take!!!
AgricultureRe: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by nxtEinsten:
Weldone sir. please where did you get your 8ltr per hour double emiter from and it's cost. I have been looking for it. Thanks

The elusive ₦500,000 from one plot of land challenge project is coming closer,we are getting ready to touch the holy figure of 100bags of cucumber from one plot of land, many E-analysts are mocking us that it is impossible, well we shall see,the land had been cleared and ridged,10tons of manure had been dumped on site, drip irrigation kits with dual emitters of 8ltr/hr has been sourced and ready,we are only waiting for 1st November to plant so we can target the boom Xmas period
