Boxer Deontay Wilder meets the Pope as star ramps up talk of fighting Anthony Joshua to become ‘true heavyweight champ’

The WBC heavyweight champ met Pope Francis in Vatican City as he toured Rome.

Wilder was named the Boxers’ Representative and Ambassador for Peace through Sport, and had many words of admiration for the leader of the Catholic Church.

During interviews after the meeting, Wilder fuelled speculation of a potential unification bout with Anthony Joshua next year by claiming that he wanted to be the "true heavyweight champion of the world".

CHELSEA revealed as most charitable club after donating over £7.5m in 12 months

It’s not just the leaky Blues defence that’s been charitable at Stamford Bridge this season – as the Chelsea Foundation have spent £7.5million on charitable causes.

The Blues’ Foundation was formed in 2010, and their website states that: “The Chelsea Foundation brings together the Football in the Community and the Education department along with the club’s other charitable and community activities, including our international work and anti-discrimination projects.”

Five of the Premier League’s top six are represented, with Liverpool 14th, Manchester City 10th, Tottenham seventh, Manchester United fourth – and of course Chelsea top.

Australia and New Zealand will join forces in their bid to host the 2023 Women’s World Cup after reaching an 11th-hour agreement before the bid deadline on Friday.

Australia and New Zealand launched the joint bid backed by both governments to bring the women’s soccer World Cup to the southern hemisphere for the first time in 2023

This year’s 24-team Women’s World Cup in France, won by the United States, set records for attendance and attracted unprecedented viewing figures on television.

After that success, FIFA decided to expand the tournament to 32 teams for 2023 and reopened the bidding process to allow time for interested nations to adjust their plans of the heavy cost and resources to host such big event.

What is the Ballon d'Or?
The Ballon d'Or has been awarded by France Football every year since 1956, with England's Stanley Matthews the first winner.

It was only for European players until 1995, when it expanded to become open for any player at a European club. From 2007 it opened up to the rest of the world.

Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d'Or award for the world's best player for a record sixth time.

It is the 32-year-old's  first Ballon d'Or since 2015 and comes after he scored 54 times for club and country in 2018-19, in which Barca won La Liga.

Virgil van Dijk was second - one of four Liverpool players in the top seven, including Sadio Mane in fourth.

Juventus and Portugal forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who has won the award five times, was third in the voting.

Great Britain and England hockey star Sam Ward is fighting to save his hockey career after losing sight in his left eye.

Ward shared on social media horrific images of his injuries, after surgeons made an incision across his entire head to operate on his eye socket.

He then had dozens of stitches and staples across the crown of his head.

Anthony Joshua promises 'iconic' rematch with Ruiz as heavyweight lands in saudi arabia amids fight.

The British heavyweight was shown around the custom-built 15,000-seater stadium on Sunday having earlier landed in Saudi Arabia along with his entourage.

And the legend wants a FOURTH fight against old foe Riddick Bowe.

Jose Mourinho returns to management for the first time since being sacked by Manchester United in December. He has signed a contract until the end of the 2022-23 season with Spurs.

Earlier on Tuesday, Tottenham sacked Mauricio Pochettino, six months after he led the club to the Champions League final and after five years in charge, saying that it was a move made reluctantly after a disappointing start to the season.

Pochettino’s assistant Jesus Perez and the rest of his backroom staff have also been relieved of their duties, the club said in a statement.

Cricketer Hossain banned for 5 years for slapping teammate at ongoing National Cricket League

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) handed a five-year ban, of which two were suspended, and a hefty fine of  $3,540 to  Test cricketer Shahadat Hossain for assaulting teammate Arafat Sunny during the ongoing National Cricket League.

The cricketer also served two months of detention in 2015 after he and his wife were accused of torturing an 11-year-old girl, whom they had employed as domestic help.

Inter manager Antonio Conte is reportedly under police protection in Italy after receiving a bullet in the post mail.

According to reports, the former Chelsea boss received an envelope from an anonymous sender containing a bullet and a letter which issued a series of threats.
