Pre-season can be deceiving. It is only a few games, at slow tempo, against people who are either not fully fit or not trying hard.

I wish to see him play competitive football with first team, possibly in the league cup.

Preseason tour that Zidane iqbal and Charlie Savage beasted the other preseason or the one Andreas Pereira beasted regularly?

He is just 18 and has developed a huge amount in the past 6 months so it is still too early to rule him out. Every academy player, even the best ones, has a very low chance of making the senior team.

....damn, I missed Iqbal and Savage. Really thought both get future at United after the pre-season.

That is not how they do it. You don't just toss Wheatley away cos you got Chido Obi. Most of our academy players, including the talented ones, do not have future at the club. That does not mean we dump them all. We keep the better ones and complete their football education, otherwise we will struggle to attract academy players in the future.

Wheatley is 18 and Obi is 16 so they both still have time and room to develop, grow, and prove themselves. Wheatley will most likely be here until 19-20 UNLESS Obi comes in and outshines him badly.

Obi's ridiculous goalscoring record is not a guarantee of success at the senior level.

I really wish him best of luck but ain't convinced by him during the pre-season tours.

Wheatley will likely alternate between Under-21 and first team bench while Chido will alternate between Under-21 and for FA Youth Cup he might play Under-18. I can see Wheatley going on loan in January, while Chido is left as the main Under-21 striker. I suspect Chido will make the first team bench after he turns 17 this year, even if it is only to motivate him.

Chido won't be mainly with the Under-18s because we have strikers like Biancheri, Musa, and Kaba who need minutes. It will also be a waste of time for him to be there cos he is too big and strong for them. We need to see him against stronger players to know if he is really all that.

....ain't sure Wheatley gets future at this club though, the earlier he leaves the better for his career.

We will see. First of all, i hope he is not much older than that 18. We should send him to the Under-21 squad for this season.
With Collyer part-time in the senior squad and Oyedele's exit, they are lacking depth at CDM.

He passed FIFA U17 MRI Test, thus I believe the age. At worse he can be more than 20yrs old. I am sure he ain't signed to join first team straight up, he is gonna join U21 definitely to show his skills and readiness against next season. I expect Obi-Martin to join up with U21 too, though with Wheatley still with the Squad, its gonna be hard for him to start games. I won't be surprised if he is with U18 throughout this season.
