Ikennamurphy: OK.. Well maybe your origin is in the central part of igboland because most of those on the border towns are adulterated Yes, I understand most Igbo dialects including the far fetched reaches of Anioma, but Ebonyi clans have the heaviest Igbo I've heard, wayy too heavy for me |
Education › Re: Why The IGBO Language is Particularly Hard To Learn by Obalatule(op): 11:53pm On Aug 01, 2020 |
Ikennamurphy: Yeah.. People even more easily communicate in their dialects more perfectly than the central spoken igbo Depending on the native dialect Shaa, mine is close to the central Igbo so I can switch very easily, though it's usually not necessary |

Ikennamurphy: Good explanation.. But I think most native languages have same thing.. I just noticed they're no much people interested in really trying to learn it the right way.. Them no de learn language in a day even Hausa sef.. Esp as adults.. Children learn language faster with ease Yes I agree, But it seems Igbo is a special kind of hard even for the person trying to teach, Contextual meanings are more complicated than what is obtained in for example English language |
Education › Why The IGBO Language is Particularly Hard To Learn by Obalatule(op): 11:32pm On Aug 01, 2020*. Modified: 11:58pm On Aug 01, 2020 |
I have heard alot of non-native Igbos that are interested in learning Igbo complain of the difficulty they face with the Igbo language and all its numerous complexities, Igbo was my first language so i never noticed this until I started meeting non-igbos who wanted to learn Igbo on-the go like other languages and found it mind boggling and highly complicated. Igbo language has a way with words and Sentences that are simply impossible to translate to English with high Accuracy, for Example someone may say "Ahuru m gi n'anya" which means "I love you" and every Igbo native speaker will understand it as such, but what it literally translates to is "I see you with my eyes"...Now you see the quagmire a learner will face when trying to understand and translate sentences? Igbo language is also highly tonal, one word could well mean five things depending on the tone of the speaker for Example, Àkwá = Egg , Ákwá = cry , Àkwà = Clothing , Ákwà = Bed, I may have gotten this tonal marks mixed up though .....so imagine the confusion a learner will face with all these similar words that are differentiated only by tone. Again Igbo language has a wide array of double letters that are tongue twisting for intending speakers, Few example The " KW ", "Gb", "Gw" ," Ch" and the notorious " ñ " that many people find so hard to get right. I won't even go into proverbs and idioms that are an integral part of the language and very hard to grasp for a learner. I've observed though that the fastest and most effective way to learn the Igbo language is to throw yourself into it, It will be mistakes all over the place and you may get laughed at 'cos mistakes in Igbo language sentence structures always sounds very funny to native speakers, But you will learn in leaps and bounds while being corrected, and in no time you will master this ancient tongue twisting, mind rattling, highly complex language that Has been spoken in different forms and dialects for millennias....K'emesia nu

And as a matter of fact, Osibanjo, Awolowo and co who all came from Ike nna are igbos
Are you happy now? Ikenne means mother's strength in Igbo, but I would love to hear how it is pronounced in yoruba tongue..... obvious these people can't be Igbo but the town sounds and is written like Igbo(from my point of view).....I may be biased though |

Sammy07: Bro, Oya let's talk proper
If the "igbo" in Odigbo and Oke igbo are igbo towns.
What is the meaning of "oke" and "odi" in Igbo language?
We have Igbo Ora, Olugbo
What is the meaning of "ora" "olu" and "igbo"
So that we can join it together in Igbo language Ok, "ora" in Igbo language refers to a group of people with with common ancestry "Olu" is work in igbo "Igbo" was a corruption of what was originally "ugbo" meaning farm in Igbo language |

Because it's sounded igbo have you research what it means in Yoruba? Have your research how they come about the "igbo" name?
Have you researched how it's being pronounced?
Anywhere you see "igbo" in Yoruba land it means Bush and pronunced as BUSH.
Except some cases where it means India hemp.

Salewa97: You are obviously high.
Ikenne is where Obafemi Awolowo hail from in Ogun state, is that also an Ibo name? So because there is a name that occur in Igbo language it automatically means Igbo?
So because it’s called Ijebu Igbo means the owner are Igbos? Igbo in Yoruba mean bush.
Odo Igbo means River by the Bush. How could that be termed to be an Igbo name because they have the same name for it. Seems a lot of Igbo are drunk on this forum.
Oke Igbo (Hill by the Bush) is what you called Okigbo, I think you’re hallucinating.
Ikeji-Arakeji is a Yoruba word you Igbo. So because Ikeji is also a word in Igbo means it’s an Igbo named town?
Osu could mean many thing in Yoruba. It could mean month, it’s dim (dark), and etc. it seems Yoruba are very insultive in nature but complain a lot about insults, I ll overlook all that..... Please what does Ikenne mean in Yoruba? |

Sammy07: Nonsense, I only striked out the two because I'm from Ondo state. Ondo city to be precise.
Odigbo town is under Ondo Kingdom but it's under Ore local government. They speak the same dialect as Ondo city.
The founder of Oke igbo was Derin Odegbenla if I got it right.
Okeigbo is beside Ile Oluji. Ile Oluji is the twin brother of Ondo city.
Derin was from Ile Ife. Stop saying what you don't know Abeq. Unrecorded folk tales and stories are not in short supply anywhere in African history every group has their own, I just pointed out names that sounded very Igbo keep your fairy tales,.....Bye |
