Artists slam Burna Boy on Africans Unite concert line-up, government distances itself from it

Local musicians and event organisers have objected to Nigerian rapper Burna Boy's inclusion at an anti-xenophobic concert, claiming the star incited hatred with his comments on SA.

In a series of tweets in September, Burna Boy urged black foreigners living in SA to defend and protect themselves against xenophobic attackers. In a now deleted tweet, he also told SA rapper AKA to beef up his security, before giving him the middle finger.

He promised to never set foot in SA again until the government "wakes the f*ck up and really performs a miracle".

A month later it was announced that Burna would be performing in SA as part of the Africans Unite line-up to “unify all Africans and speak out against femicide”.

Ticket listings and promotional material for the event claimed the concert was sponsored by the department of sports, arts and culture and is organised by Play Network Africa, which, according to its website, is based in Nigeria.

Musicians and event organisers, under the umbrella of Tshwane Entertainment Collective, wrote a scathing letter to the minister raising objections against the concert and calling for the department to pull its sponsorship of the event.

The group questioned the exclusion of artists and event organisers from Tshwane in the process, the lack of financial support for artists from the area, and claims that communities affected by xenophobia are located far from the areas where the concert will be held and cannot afford the ticket prices for the event.

The chief concern was against Burna Boy's inclusion, and the group labelled the event a “financial exercise to benefit the very artists who have our country in a negative light based on false claims”.

"Whoever may have deemed that the country needs a PR exercise of this nature would have done so largely as a result of the callous, misleading and unwarranted incitement by this very artist. Not only did he spread falsehoods through his extensive platform, he literally incited violence and hate," the letter said of Burna Boy, suggesting that government had succumbed to pressure from him.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy has announced he will contribute a portion of the proceeds from the concert to the victims of xenophobic attacks.

"I really hope we can all keep contributing in our own way to make the world a better and safer place for each other. Africans unite, it’s bigger than all of us," he wrote on Twitter.

Rapper AKA responded to the decision by suggesting that most of those contributions will then go to South Africans because they were the biggest victims of the violence.

"So for the most part, he’ll be donating to South Africans. Weird," he wrote.

CrimeIkechukwu “Ike” Amadi Jailed In US For $10M Wired Fraud by obavalen(op): 1:34pm On Nov 12, 2019
A Tampa fraud case helped reveal the , a scheme from Nigeria.

FBI agents here linked a series of complicated financial scams to an organized crime ring that started as a fraternal organization.

TAMPA — It started with a complaint about a clever check-fraud scam that had bilked a small Georgia law firm out of nearly $100,000. The money wound up in a bank account in Tampa but then vanished into other accounts overseas, spurring the interest of local FBI agents.

What followed was an investigation that has stretched on now for six years, ensnared 13 defendants and uprooted a complex international fraud scheme responsible for losses in excess of $10 million, agents and federal prosecutors say.

The probe reached its zenith last month when a man who who helped orchestrate the scheme appeared in a Tampa courtroom to face a sentence of 15 years in federal prison.

Ikechuwku “Ike” Amadi, 38, is a dual Canadian and Nigerian citizen. He worked, according to the FBI, with a Nigeria-based criminal organization known as the Group.

The conspirators “sit in Internet cafes in Nigeria and conduct fraud online,” said FBI Special Agent Devin Williams, who headed the investigation.

The started as a fraternal organization on college campuses in Nigeria in the 1970s. It eventually evolved into an organized crime group. In the United States and around the world, the group is responsible for the loss of millions of dollars through a variety of elaborate cons.

They include what are known as “romance scams,” where conspirators pose as potential suitors on dating websites. They follow detailed scripts to gradually charm their victims, often lonely widows. In some cases, the fraudsters conduct research about the victim’s hometown and claim to live in an area nearby. The aim is to eventually lure victims with a phony investment opportunity, convincing them to cash in their retirement savings or home equity and wire it into a bank account in the United States.

Other scams targeted title companies with phony cashier’s checks for fake real estate transactions. Still others targeted businesses and law firms through email spoofing and hacking schemes.

The Tampa case started as a tip from a law firm in Columbus, Ga. The firm lost about $96,000 through a fraud in which someone posed as a business owner seeking payment of a debt from another company. Partial payment was made in the form of a cashier’s check made out to the firm. A lawyer was then instructed to wire the funds to a Bank of America account in Tampa. Only after the money left the account did the lawyer learn the cashier’s check was fake.

FBI agents found that the bank account belonged to an associate of a Tampa man, Muhammad Naji. Naji eventually cooperated with FBI agents. He explained that he worked for a man from Canada, whom he knew only as “Melvin.”

Melvin was Ike Amadi. From his perch in Toronto, Canada, he orchestrated a network of people like Naji who are described in court records as “money mules.” Their job was to open bank accounts, often in the names of shell companies, that would store the ill-gotten monies as deposits. As soon as the money arrived, the mules would send it overseas before the theft could be discovered.

The money mules received 5 to 10 percent of the stolen funds. Amadi also got a cut. The rest went to the .

Naji helped identify other mules. They included Priscilla Ellis, a Texas woman who also helped create high-quality forgeries of checks and other documents. After her conviction in federal court, she made headlines when she tried to arrange the contract killings of witnesses who had testified against her. Her prison release date is nearly a century away.

Amandi was arrested in Canada in 2015. He fought extradition to the United States but eventually agreed to be sent to Tampa.

He pleaded guilty in July to conspiracy to commit mail fraud and wire fraud. In a memo filed before his October sentencing, his attorney, Victor Martinez, wrote that Amadi donated his ill-gotten gains to family and friends in need and convinced himself that the people from whom he stole were millionaires who could afford the loss.

Student of Anambra State University rushed to hospital after she allegedly attempted suicide by drinking Sniper

A student of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), formerly known as Anambra State University, was rushed to the hospital after she allegedly attempted suicide by drinking a popular pesticide called Sniper.

The lady, whose name has been given as Okafor Chidinma, was supposed to have graduated with the last set but is being held back because of an incident.

She took to Facebook before the act to leave a suicide note of some sort. In the note, she explained why the school is still holding her back from graduating with her mates.

She explained that her HOD invited her for a meeting where she was accused of stealing a book and made to face the school's disciplinary panel. She was also made to write a statement and replace the book in question.

Yet, she said the school has refused to allow her to graduate after four years of study.

She added in the Facebook suicide post: "I tagged my coursemates mostly because apparently one or two of them is responsible for this."

She continued: "Okafor Chidinma is out of the way. I hope your life gets better.

Thankfully, help got to Chidinma shortly after she consumed the substance and she was rushed to the hospital where she is said to be "conscious and in recovery."

Christianity EtcFlamboyant Ghanaian Pastor, obofour Flaunts His 25 Luxury Cars With Disdain by obavalen(op): 12:55am On Nov 08, 2019
I keep saying that Africans should pay homage to the White man for introducing Christianity in African─because it has provided more jobs and made smart men ride on others in the name of fake miracles to enrich themselves.

Reverend Obofour, the Nebuchadnezzar of our time stood in his huge garage and bragged that “this is my house and these are all my cars” to the cameras.

Whoa! The man who showed the F** symbol right in his church has over 25 luxurious and expensive cars─from, Mercedes Benz to most of the latest toys in town.

Even his daughter who is not even 12 years old rides in a very expensive car─and all these cars are paraded in the garage of his mansion.

He even has a car which is powered by solar energy and he seems to be the first person to own such a car in Ghana.

Watch the video of Reverend Obofour as he displays his over 25 expensive cars.
