For students coming for their masters it is always advisable to complete the program before working, because that will speed up your Permanent residence application.

oijeleo:

plz i need contact of the agent over there

It depends on what you mean by agent, I assume you mean immigration consultant.
You do not need agent to process your papers if you have access to internet.
If you still want contact I can get you one, but remenber their charges are in $$$$

@ALL, your advice are all welcome.

Travel / I Have Gotten A Full Time Job In Canada. by Obeledu: 2:19am On Jan 30, 2012
My journey to Canada started with two earlier threads I posted on Nairaland as can been seen on the following links.

I decided to join my family in Calgary and face the challenges on July 2011. Before finally relocating to Canada I had plan of gaining employment in

the Canadian oil industries as a rig technician. The reason being that it is easy to get and also the pay is very good so far you can endure working

in a hostile weather conditions.

When I landed, I went and registered with Calgary Catholic Immigration services (this is government sponsored trainer for entry level in the oil

industries). I was invited for both oral and written interview, and to my greatest surprise I was not selected. It was very painful as I had no plan B,

meanwhile the money I had with me was going down seriously because of large family (family of five).

After much thought I went to job agency, I must emphasise that agency job are readily available but the problem is they are mostly temporary jobs.

You can be lucky and get hired by the parent company after about three months. The jobs are mostly warehouse jobs with payment range of $14-

$20/hr payment. The agent was able to get a job for me in an electrical assembly plant the next day with a payment of $17.5/hr.

With this I was able to pay my bill and take care of my family. The job was more of physical than brain work, so I wasn’t comfortable with it. I

started submitting my resume to different telecommunication companies since that’s my major in Nigeria. I must say that I used Craigslist most of

the time and also looking up directly on the company websites. I started getting invitation for interview, after three series of interview I finally got an offer letter. I never applied for engineering positions. You cannot come from Nigeria and secure any engineering position without first undergoing

one year upgrade program. All my application was as telecommunication technician.

The problem most of us Nigerian especially easterners face here is the accent problem. The oyibo here don’t usually understand our English.

After staying few months here I must admit that Nigeria is very lovely place to stay. When I was in Nigeria there is no weekend that will pass without you having one occasion to attend. Those things make life more enjoyable, but you can never see those things here.

The comparison is still good considering that your income is still in naira. Although you are right, the earlier settelers will always discourage you from comparing but foregetting that when they arrived they also did the same thing.

The advice on Nairaland worked because if not for it you will be thinking that immediately you get to Canada you will starting picking money from express road.
NYSC / Re: DDCs Run On Linux - Dont Put The Blame On Corpers by Obeledu: 7:55pm On Jan 19, 2011
Linux is not the problem, the Linux OS is small, compact and secure and well fitted for operation like this. Going for Window that is very bogus is a waste of resources and will definitely slow down the whole process.

If you people have not used Ubuntu, try to dual boot with window and you will see the difference. Since I started using Linux I have not gone back to Window again.

If you are using consultant which I suggest you use, you should be talking around N900,000-N1,10000.

But before wasting your money make sure you occupation is among the listed and that you are working or able to provide solid evidence that you are earning close to at least N200,000/m

When I landed the immigration guy did not check my proof of funds, he asked and I told him how much I had and he said okay.

I think what happened was that the lady is new, because the way she was asking questions surprised me. It is always good to be prepared because you never know what awaits you.

The weather here is really tough, I noticed that most blacks I am seeing here are Somalian and Keyans. You know them by their very black skin

Any province or city you decide to settle is okay, but bear in mind that the cost of living is directly related to availability of job. In Calgary there are a lots of job opening but the housing here is on higher side. The housing is the main thing here, if you are able to take care of it , then every other thing falls into places.
