Travel / Re: Landed In Calgary Canada by Obeledu: 12:59am On Dec 20, 2010
I will come back to Nigeria do some work, raise some money and then join the family. It is easy to make money in Nigeria than here, the only way for you to make money here is to work.

I will wait for the month to end for the cost of utilities, i just hope it dose not spiral out of control.

Travel / Landed In Calgary Canada by Obeledu: 11:46pm On Dec 18, 2010
As a follow up to the attached link, this is the summary of the trip.

https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-272024.0.html

The trip to Calgary (Canada).

The family left warri to PHC international airport on 14th December to catch up with 9:00pm flight, there was a lot of apprehension as to whether we will meet up with the flight as there was a lot of traffic gridlock on the road. We arrive 30 minutes to the departure time and was the last group to be screened, there was one incident during the screening as some uniform men and women who called themselves agricultural people insisted that I must present to them the certificate of quarantine dry fish I am carrying. I tried to be tough by arguing with them, but at the end being that we came late I have to part with N2,000. They insisted that I should not board with the g rinded pepper, so I left that one with them.

There was a stop over at Abuja before heading to Frankfurt since our airline was Lufthansa, the flight from Abuja to Frankfurt was smooth and the meal served was okay. The stop over at the Frankfurt was for five hours, we were not bothered as we were busy doing window shopping.

The flight from Frankfurt to Calgary was the longest, more than 8hrs, I must not fail to commend Lufthansa for the quality of food and other services. The whole passengers were given a form from Canada immigration to file irrespective of whether you are a new immigrant or not. At calgary airport every passengers has to queue before immigration officer. At your turn ounce you mention you are for your landing, you will be ushered to another section, where you will be given some documents that contain address of the organization that helps new comers. It is important for you to check that your landing papers were signed by immigration officer, I did not noticed that he mistakenly did not sign my own paper. This cause me time and money because when the officer to issue me SIN card noticed that the paper was not signed she sent me back to them. After the immigration we are directed to the custom section and I was required to show to show the prove of fund. For the family of five we are required to show minimum of $23,400. The officer took her time to count the money, after which we were allowed to collect our luggages. From here you are on your own, I recommend that prior arrangement of airport pickup should be made.

The person who help us found house picked us to the house, it is a modest two bedroom flat that cost $950/month without utilities. It is a nice flat with washer, fridge, dryer and chair.

The weather is tough here, you cannot walk more than one kilometer without freezing. There are some places we would have walk to if not for the weather, instead we have to enter transit train. Things here are expensive compare to Nigeria, let me gives some instances:

Ticket for Calgary transit cost $2.75 for 90minutes,

Ovaltine Choc $9.98
Rice 8kg $11.67
milk $3.97

we subscribe to TV, Phone, and Internet for $80.00/month

I have gotten my SIN number while the card will come later. Next week I intends to register with Alberta health care and children school.

Thanks for the reply,

GUI works fine, it is just that it also good to learn how to do it using command line. most of the solution available on internet require  you to type sudo apt-get. it is always annoying if you cannot get it right.

Hello I am back with another problem:

I am dual booting Ubuntu 10.04 and Window Vista on my laptop.
My internet connection require proxy setting.
When using synaptic update manager I connect to the internet without problem because the proxy setting is okay.
My problem is when i do sudo apt-get update I always get error 407 proxy authentication required.

I have done the following, I added the following to the /etc/bash.bash.rc

export http_proxy="http://Johno:Johnb@haproxy.haisa.net:8080/"
export ftp_proxy="http://Johno:Johnb@haproxy.haisa.net:8080/"

Where Johno=my username
Johnb=my password
haproxy.haisa.net=the name of the proxy server

Please is there anything i am doing wrongly. I have research on internet for the solution but found no solution.

Thanks man, it is working now. I am just resisting the temptation of going back to window. Under window you just click and every thing just work. It is just that determination to try some thing new, and i am not being disappointed

Please I dont seems to understand what you are saying, just confirm to me if this is what you meant.

1:Uninstall flash
2:Reboot
3:On the synaptic mamager check "Adobe-flash"
4:Install
If these are correct, then the problem is that Adobe-Flash is not listed on the synaptic manager. Forgive me if i am unable to decode your post properly

Gents,

I tried to use Google map but is saying that Adobe flash 10.1 is needed to view the page.

I added "Adobe-flashplugins" on the synaptic package manager and was successfully installed but not working.

Please anybody know how to install flash 10.1 on Ubuntu 10.04 with Mozilla Firefox 3.6.?

4llerbuntu:

well first thing is you have to install an app called "cheese"

open a terminal and do "sudo apt-get install cheese"

or go into synaptic, use the search box and search for cheese, check it and apply to install.

when u then start it, then we will see if you need a key combination to use the camera or if cheese will automatically start it. cheers (as lynx go talk)

soyad:

Iwu is a complete diagrace especially to the academia , that he is still in office shows the level of insanity in our land . I dont know how he acquired the capacity for so much evil and he expects Nigerians to stupidly accept his idiotic actions .For the records the Anambra election was the most scientifically rigged election in Nigeria , let no one be decieved , the voters register was manipulated by inec and its collaborators so that APGA can emerge as the winner ,no wonder Ojukwu wants him retained , i am sure one day he will pay for his many sins

Were you in Anambra during the election?. Majority of people that did not find their name on the register are APGA supporters. We all knew that IWU and Peter Obi are not the best of friend, so how can he help him rig election.
Politics / Re: Iwu Explodes- Says Only Idiots Expect Miracle From Inec by Obeledu: 1:18pm On Apr 08, 2010
Iwu is not the problem, all these people calling for his removal are the ones that are becoming uncomfortable with his reform. The best reform IWU has introduced is the anouncement of the result at the polling booth.

This has removed the issue of ballot stuffing and snatching which is making the riggers jitery.

OBJ performed average in the following area

-----Management of economy during his first term

-----Fighting of corruption, even though it was selective but he performed

-----Privatisation of refineries, i just dont know why Yaradua has to reverse those decision, by now i dont think we will be having this fuel problem

-----Then off course Telecommunication.

But he messed up his achievment in the following:

-----Imposition of candidates on the electorate.

-----His unwarrented interferance in Anambra politics

-----Failure in power sector

-----His problem with the then vice president

-----Third term ambition

-----No respect for jurdiciary

Neverthless i wish him happy birthday

Gbenga Aruleba is biased, so he wont let the men talk their mind, he is perpetually a biased person.

I agree with you my brother, i remembered during Anambra election coverage, he was interviewing one of the election monitors. The guy was trying to explain to him that the seven wards he covered witnessed peacful election, but Gbenga dosent want to hear that. He kept on raising the issue of Soludos thump printed ink wipeing off after voting.

Searched the whole of Warri and couldnt find any either. Even oil for high millage cars are not avaliable. I think may be the cost are driving importers away from importing those oil.

Did you said the Eleozu fly over is done: you must be the only person living in PH. Also some of your pictures are doctoured, some body asked whether the roads are tarrared with blue asphalt but you ignored her.

Amaechi is trying but he can do more with the amount of resources avaliable to him. Lets wait and see what the 2010 budjet will look like, because some states like Anambra budjets like 67B while most of Niger delta budjet in the range of 250B, but yet you dont see the differences when you vists these states.

Also the quality of the jobs are nothing to write home, i travels through PH to Warri every month, the quality of the roads being constructed outside PH cant withstand one rainy season.

Autos / Re: Canadian Cars, Is This How They Behave by Obeledu: 1:44pm On Dec 22, 2009
Thanks Emperoh and Dantitki, except that particular incident there was no other problem, although i had issue with nigerian police because on my registration paper the engine no is recorded as starting with R, while it actually start with K.

I had to part with my hard earned 2,000. Those people at registration office i dont know why they usually made such stupid mistake.

Thanks see you at village.
Autos / Canadian Cars, Is This How They Behave by Obeledu: 1:58pm On Dec 21, 2009
I use Honda accord 2006 model made or used in Canada which behaved strangely to me on a trip from Warri to my village.

Due to long distance from Warri to Onitsha I decided not to use air conditioning since the road is mostly free of potholes. The weather was very hot; on getting to Onitsha I noticed that my temperature control was approaching red mark, I pulled over and opened the hood only to notice that the radiator fan was not working.

I looked for electrician which checked all the fuses and confirmed them okay. The guy suggested that he can make the fan to work by connecting relay and by passing some connections which I objected. I was about looking for another electrician when out of curiosity I decided to on the air conditioning and behold the fan started working.

My question: is that the cars are made in such a way that at higher temperature you must use air conditioning , because if I had allowed that guy to connect the relay the car might have been destroyed.

Have anybody had the same type of experience.

TV/Movies / Re: Nkenna (big Brother Africa), A Model Of A Nigerian Woman? by Obeledu: 6:27pm On Nov 17, 2009
Hate or like her, that girl has strong character needed to succeed in this world. Most of you have quoted some of her statements on BBH, but how many of you recollected what other housemate said and I will say that’s what is called entertainment.

Nkenna understand well what is going on in that house and does not allow other house mate to intimidate her. Big brother house is not a place to look for role model because all the housemate has their individual game plan different from their real life character.

On celebrity, if you know the number of pages that has been devoted to Nkenna on internet then you will know that she is real a celebrity.

Thanks to Arsenal 4. This is the reason you should order for a service manual or owners manual when you are getting your car if it doesn't come with one.

Lot of things are in the manual like resetting of maintainance required Light. This will save you lots of money.

Am in Warri and have service manual on CARINA E, BLUEBIRD, MAXIMA 1999 model-2002 model and alo CRV 2003 model. I am willing to release for warri guys to make photocopies if they are interested.

Waoosa, are you a mechanic or do you know a mechanic that uses this OBD scanners to diagonise fault around Effurun.
