Africa is now more accessible than ever. After two years of construction, Kenya's largest infrastructure project since independence, a $3.8 billion Chinese-built high speed railway, is up and running. It's around 300 miles long, connecting the port city of Mombasa to the capital of Nairobi. Built by China Road and Bridge Corporation and 90 percent financed by China Eximbank, it is the largest infrastructure project since independence in 1963. It's named the Madaraka Express, after the day Kenya attained self rule. Speaking at its launch, Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta referenced the country's colonial British railway -- known as the "Lunatic Express" -- built more than a century ago, saying: "Today 122 years later, despite again a lot of criticism, we now celebrate, not the Lunatic Express but the Madaraka Express, that will begin to reshape the story of Kenya for the next 100 years. I am proud to be associated with this day." I really wish the Federal Ministry of Transport in our beloved country Nigeria could take a cue from this. Oral estate is a developing estate with well interlocked central road located very close to Ikota Villa Estate, off the Lekki-Epe Expressway. It’s almost a stone throw from Orchid Hotel. The estate was not developed by any central body; individuals and various developers acquired the lands and built houses according to their taste. Currently, the estate is not serviced as it is not yet fully developed. However, the estate is undergoing a rapid development. Modern estate facilities (street lights, greenery, power and water supply etc) are in place, the estate portrays the features of a top-notch neighbourhood and it’s within a serene environment. Entrance into the estate is not restricted. Though, the security officers at the gate perform checks on pedestrians and vehicular movements. The estate is characterized mainly by tastefully constructed non-uniform fully detached, semi-detached duplexes and terraces which are built by individuals who acquired the lands early enough. It’s a developing neighbourhood and all the buildings within are more or less brand new. Furthermore, there are no specific recommendations as per how the houses are built; you build according to your taste. Most of the residents in the estates are upper class and middle class citizens who have either bought fully built apartments, or those who bought lands and decide to build their own apartments. ~ Loo-Cent Services ~ |
