Yes, you read that correctly, the National Open University
of Nigeria (NOUN) has finally gotten the one approval, it has
been fighting for years to get.
Yes, the management of NOUN has finally gotten approval from
senate for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for all
her students to participate in the NYSC programme.
This means that the Federal government of Nigeria and all
Nigerians are coming to accept the fact, that NOUN is among
the top best Universities in the country.
Lest I forget, hope you are aware that NOUN is listed among
the top 25 Tertiary institutions in Nigeria?

Procedures On How To Check NYSC Senate Approved
List:
1. You are required to visit the Nysc registration portal via
the website below to check the senate approved list:
http://portal.nysc.org.ng/nysc1/verifysenatelists
2. When the portal loads up, proceed and click on the drop
down box, and you will see the National Open University
of Nigeria listed there.
3. Then in the second box, enter your Matriculation
Number,
4. Proceed and enter your Surname in the box tagged
“Surname”
5. Enter your correct birth details
6. Lastly, click on button that reads: “Search” to check for
your name in the database.

NIGERIA is to open a new railway network from Obudu in Cross Rivers State, running through the coastal states of Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, Anambra, Edo and terminating at the Lagos port, according to Transport Minister, Rotimi Amaechi. The Obudu to Lagos coastal railway network is to be inaugurated as a fresh project with new train terminal stations to be cited in Uyo, Otuoke, Warri, Onitsha, Benin, Ore, Ijebu-ode and Lagos. The minister also disclosed plans to commit massive funds into ensuring the seamless linkage of Lagos and and some south west, north central states with a railway line that would terminate in Kano. Amaechi, who stated this while briefing journalists in Lagos yesterday, also disclosed plans to complete the terminal buildings of four international airports located in Port Harcourt, Abuja, Kano and Lagos before the end of December 2016. He said the railway projects would create about 250,000 direct jobs for Nigerians.

The Nigerian government has accused the leader of the
Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, of plotting to
create a breakaway Biafra Republic with Nigeria’s present
south-south, south-east and north central states, as
component units.
The government on Friday slammed fresh charges against
Mr. Kanu, shortly after a court ordered his release from
custody where he has been held since October.
The six-count charge was filed by the office of the Attorney
General of the Federation.
The charges were due for mention in court on Tuesday, but
were deferred following the absence of the counsel to the
federal government.
Count One of the charge centred on allegations of
treasonable felony and reads in parts: “That you, Nnamdi
Kanu and other unknown persons, now at large, at London,
United Kingdom, between 2014 and September, 2015 with
intention to levy war against Nigeria in order to force the
President to change his measures of being the President of
the Federation, Head of State and Commander in Chief of
the Armed Forces of the Federation as defined in Section 3
of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999
(as amended) by doing an act to wit: Broadcast on Radio
Biafra your preparations for the states in the South- East
geo-political zone, South-South geo-political zone, the Igala
Community of Kogi State and the Idoma/Igede Community
of Benue State to secede from the Federal Republic of
Nigeria and form themselves into a Republic of Biafra”.
The offence as stipulated by the charge is punishable under
Section 41(C) of the Criminal Code Act, CCA, 2004.
Count Two of the charge contains allegations of maintaining
an unlawful society, punishable under Section 63 of the
same Act.
In Count Three, Mr. Kanu is accused of concealing goods of
different descriptions; an offence punishable under section
47 (c) of the customs and excise management act, cap 45
laws of the Federation.
“That you, Nnamdi Kanu between the months of March and
April, 2015 imported into Nigeria and kept in Ubulusiuzor
town in Ihiala local Government Area of Anambra State
within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, a radio
transmitter known as TRAM 5OL concealed in a container
which you described as containing household items, which
you so declared and that, you thereby committed an offence
punishable under section 47(2) (a) of the Customs and
Excise Management Act.”
Mr. Kanu’s counsel, Vincent Obate, had told PREMIUM TIMES
that his client who was granted bail on Thursday December
17 was still in the custody of the Office of the State Security
Service, SSS, and facing fresh charges of treasonable felony
among others.
Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the same court had, in a
December 17 ruling, faulted the action of the State Security
Service in detaining Mr. Kanu for over two months, without
trial.
Mr. Ademola noted a specific reason for the unconditional
release granted Mr. Kanu to be his prolonged detention by
the SSS, without any attempt to have him (Mr. Kanu) tried.
Mr. Kanu’s release by the federal court came a day after a
Magistrate Court sitting in Abuja struck out all suits filed
against him.
Magistrate Shuaibu Usman struck out all criminal charges
leveled against Mr. Kanu after counsel to the State Security
Services, Moses Idakwo, filed for discontinuation of the
matter on the instruction of his client.
Mr. Usman said since the SSS, through its lawyer, had filed
for a discontinuation of the case, he had no option than to
discharge the accused.
But rather than release the Radio Biafra director following
the separate rulings by the two courts, the SSS slammed
fresh charges against him.
Mr. Kanu, who was arrested by the SSSS as he returned to
Nigeria, has been in detention since October.
Calls for his release led to demonstrations in several south
east states.
Mr. Kanu was represented in court by a new counsel, Mr.
Ifeanyi Ejiofor.

United States President, Barrack Obama has named a Nigerian-American journalist and Anti-human Trafficking advocate, Bukola Love Oriola as a member of the US Advisory Council on Human Trafficking.

In a statement by the office of the Press Secretary, White House on December 16, Obama said he was honoured that Oriola and ten others appointed to serve on the council have decided to serve the country.

“They bring their years of experience and expertise to this Administration, and I look forward to working with them,” Obama stated.
According to White House statement, Oriola, has served as an independent consultant, speaker, and author on human trafficking issues since 2009.

She founded The Entian Story in 2013, a non-profit organization which advocates for survivors of human trafficking and domestic abuse after her personal experience when she relocated to the US from Nigeria.

“In 2009, Ms. Oriola published her book Imprisoned: The Travails of a Trafficked Victim and began producing Imprisoned Show. Ms. Oriola has owned and managed Bukola Braiding and Beauty Supply since 2007. She was a reporter and researcher for Century Media Limited in Lagos, Nigeria from 2003 to 2005. Ms. Oriola received an A.S. from The Polytechnic Ibadan, Oyo.”

She began her journalism career in Nigeria in 2000 at Common Interest Communications, Publishers of the defunct National Interest Newspapers and later joined the defunct New Age Newspaper.

In 2005, Oriola won the Cadbury National Award for Education Reporters and is a fellow of the International Institute for Journalism, Germany.

Responding to her appointment, Oriola who was in Nigeria in September on sensitization campaign against human trafficking, said she was grateful and humbled.

“Please join in thanking God on my behalf. I regard the appointment as an opportunity to do more than I have been doing in advocating against Human Trafficking in the United States and in other parts of the world.”
