The op is actually correct. Exercise will only help you build muscle, agility, stamina, strength and endurance, but it will never help you loose weight. It is what you eat and how frequently you eat that determines how much weight you gain or loose eventually.

Depending on the type of exercise, I’m not talking gym here, I’ve trained for marathon and I can tell you how much weight you’ll lose under one week
